i get filtered by things like のだ in どうなってんだ
even when i look up explanations of it, its still abstract and unnatural to me, does this ever fix itself? how should i think of のだ to make it easier

>> No.42842667

I came across 配信活動休止期間 in an article about Vtubers and it felt like a good example for a problem I'm having with my writing/production. I overuse の too much in my own writing and would express this as 配信の活動の休止の期間, which is admittedly awful, but I don't get when you're allowed to mash kanji together and when you need to combine them with の. Are there any rules or guidelines for this?

>> No.42842696

>>42842656
なのだ

>> No.42842705

>>42842656
のだ is a sentence-ending particle that is used to provide an explanation or justification for a statement. It is often translated as "It is that..." or "The reason is that..." in English.

In the case of どうなってんだ (dou natte nda), のだ is used to give a sense of emphasis or urgency to the question. The speaker is asking, "What's happening?" or "What's going on?" but with a stronger sense of curiosity or concern.

To make it easier to understand, you can try to think of のだ as a way to explain something that might not be immediately obvious to the listener. For example, if someone asks you why you're leaving work early, you could say "仕事が終わったんだ" (shigoto ga owatta nda), which means "It's because I finished work." In this case, のだ is used to explain the reason for leaving early.

>how are the two related

In the phrase "どうなってんだ" (dou natte nda), the particle "の" is omitted and it's an abbreviated form of "どうなっているのだ" (dou natte iru no da) or "どうなっているんだ" (dou natte iru n da), which both use the explanatory particle "のだ" or "んだ" at the end.

So, in the context of the phrase "どうなってんだ," the particle "ん" or "の" is implied, and it serves to emphasize the speaker's interest in what is happening or to convey a sense of urgency or surprise. It's a casual and colloquial expression used in everyday conversation.

Overall, "どうなってんだ" is a shortened and more informal version of "どうなっているのだ" or "どうなっているんだ" that is used in casual speech to convey a stronger sense of curiosity or concern.

I found that learning kanji is MUCH easier if you order them by radical. As in the main radical on the left side, if they have it, or the grass radical on the top, etc. I don't bother doing this with the kanji that use the different variations of roof and shit since they don't look that unique.

Having all the kanji with the water radical on the left grouped together makes it infinitely easier to learn all of them. Same with the stone, the fire on the bottom, etc. So I recommend following RTK in the book's order but organizing all the kanji by main radical as you go along. In my case I just made a text document and categorized them by radical.

I've come to my final conclusion about pitch accent.
It's worth spending a handful of hours learning the basic patterns and making sure you can easily tell apart the pitch changes + reproduce them without trouble. It's good to pay attention when you're going for pronunciation. But studying and trying to memorize them word by word is a total waste unless you have some weird specific goal to sound totally native for some reason.

Lolis are God's gift to humanity. I used to think humans were disgusting creatures, since they shit and piss. But knowing that even perfect beings like cute lolis do those things, it makes such actions seem less disgusting and more beautiful by association.

A loli taking a shit makes the act of shittaking inherently less disgusting. It's similar to how Jesus defeated death and opened the door for humans doing so as well. Before he opened that path, nobody could defeat death.

"The Seven Ages of Girlhood" - von Joseph Ashby-Sterry (1876)

I.
At Two, she is a tiny lass,
And joy she scarcely knows from sorrow;
She scarce consults her looking-glass;
She has no thought of sad tomorrow!

II.
At Four she is a merry maid,
And looks on aught but play as folly;
She can't believe bright flowers fade--
That only sawdust is her dolly.

III.
At Eight, her troubles come in scores,
For oft she is perverse and haughty;
A pouting puss in pinafores--
Who's sometimes whipped when she is naughty!

IV.
At Twelve, she is a saucy teaze,
Who knows full well her glances rankle;
Her petticoats scarce veil her knees,
And fairy frills scarce kiss her ankle.

V .
At Fifteen, she's the pearl of pets,
And feels assured her pow'r is strengthened;
Her snowy school-girl trouserettes
Are hidden when her skirt is lengthened.

VI.
At Sixteen, she's the sweetest sweet,
And dresses in the height of fashion;
She feels her heart 'neath bodice beat,
In earnest for the tender passion.

VII.
At Eighteen, p'r'aps she may be sold
Her lot to share, for worse or better;
She'll either sell her heart for gold--
Or give it for a golden fetter!

A little girl is the perfect companion for easy conversation, peculiar insight, and tender connection over simple things.

How can it be that God could pack so much passion, nurture, beauty, and tenderness into one dainty little woman in the bud?

Little girls are perfect, because they embody the mystery of life and yet wear it so casually, so calmly, as if being the dwelling place of future life were such a simple thing.

It's all about saving face.

If you go to a store looking for a manga, and the clerk checks the computer and sees "0 stock", he won't just say he doesn't have it. It would be rude and uncomfortable. Instead, the motherfucker tells you he's gonna look for it in the back, and pretend to search knowing full well he doesn't have it anywhere in the store. He will then call the store manager and pretend to discuss it with him. After 5 to 10 fucking minutes, he'll finally come back to you saying "chotto", "sumimasen" and the typical bullshit euphemisms and tells you he doesn't have it.

That is a real example of something that happened to me many times in Japan, in different contexts. They will pretend to "work hard" in order to please you, even if they know it's a meaningless effort. They want to leave you with the impression that they did their best to please you.

I'm not even good yet but for me the biggest thing hasn't been how much I know but how well I know basic grammar. I used to have to try to translate the sentence into English like the world's worst scanlation team to make any sense of it, which is really hard considering Japanese doesn't fit into nice little English grammar boxes. It's not a sudden jump either, you just gradually get used to it.

I'm sure I'll run into this problem again as I move to more difficult material but for now I'm just slowly amassing vocabulary until I hopefully stop getting pelted in the face with something incomprehensible every 5 seconds.

This is an important sub-kanji to remember:
㫃 - flags flying, as in 族

But in 微, I gave up on finding a name for the common pattern left-step [something] strike/chair 彳攵

微 = 彳𡵂攵

It may help in memorization to invent a name for 彳攵. In terms of kanji I'll say this: I would have saved a lot of missed cards if I just remembered all the radicals from the start. It would have saved time to memorize the radicals.

Sure, I'd be happy to help explain the grammar in that sentence!

The sentence in Japanese, "なんて言うと思ってるの" (nante iu to omotteru no), can be broken down into several parts:

なんて (nante): This is a colloquial and somewhat casual way to say "what" or "what kind of" in Japanese. It's often used to express surprise, disbelief, or sarcasm. In this sentence, it's functioning as a sort of quotation marker, indicating that the speaker is asking about something specific that they assume the listener is thinking/saying.

言う (iu): This is the verb "to say" in Japanese, in its plain form (also called the dictionary form).

It's followed by と (to), which is a particle that marks a quotation or reported speech.

思ってる (omotteru): This is the continuous form of the verb 思う (omou), which means "to think." The -teiru ending indicates that the action is ongoing or in progress.
の (no): This is a particle in Japanese that can have several functions. In this case, it's being used to ask for an explanation or clarification, kind of like "what's the deal?" or "what's going on?"

So, putting it all together, the sentence could be translated as something like "What are you thinking/saying (about that), I wonder?" or "What do you think (I'm going to say), I wonder?" It's a somewhat indirect or vague way of asking someone to clarify their thoughts or feelings about something.

They don't see themselves as attractive, much less hot enough to inspire humiliation fantasies involving their buttholes.

If you hate faggots, why do you like lolis? They wear DRESSES and are attracted to BOYS. That's the definition of a faggot.

Lolis are faggots.

But lolis are disgusting faggots, anon. In fact, their pussies are not developed enough and the safest way to fuck them is ANAL. Just like... faggots.

-Feminine mannerisms
-Dresses and skirts
-Attracted to males
-Anal focus
Lolis are gigantic flamboyant faggots and they will have their share in the lake of fire for all eternity.

I heard story of Japanese worker who wanted to get fired to move on to another job, so he called his boss' boss "anata" in a meeting, and that worked because it means "darling" implying the boss is a fag.
