Keep grinding combat. The skill level is literally the main factor affecting dice rolls. Go to the human village and rent the combat book, then go to the moriya shrine and literally gacha the lotery until you get the energy drinks prize, it contains like 10 sports drink per reward, and just train like crazy. The book gives you slightly more exp and your character will automatically use a sport drink after a session which will cut your sta/ene expense in half. On another note, there is another prize at the lotery that gives you flat 10 combat exp.

Here's a bug with the child interaction function, I'm using the latest neodev release so ignore this if it's been fixed on the repo already.
After finding out I had to keep the "Look" tab closed to make the child interaction button appear, that's how I've been carrying on lately, but at one point I noticed it turn from stuff like "Pat <Childname>" or "Eat with <Childname>" into a generic "Interact With Your Child". I instinctively went and opened then closed the "Look" tab, and the button disappeared and then reappeared as "Eat with <Childname>" and it worked like normal, but, after a few clicks on it, it ended up with the "Interact With Your Child" label again.
