Simple. /jp/ is weeb/trash/, new threads had nowhere else to go after some /v/-tier exodus event, and since they came here and became a staple they were allowed to stay even after a board was made for them so they wouldn't break containment like they do on a daily basis. With plenty of older shittier generals, schizos, and stuff that fits better elsewhere there's arguments to be made, but when a single thread manages to bump a board up to a consistent top 10 activity speed and by default is consistently killing off threads at a lightning pace, and that thread already has its own board... can you blame people for being mad about it?

It's not "nu-/jp/," it's a legacy concept coming back around. There have been different cultures on the smaller boards like your /sci/ or /diy/ or /jp/ because of a lack of significant overlap with the more active boards. Things were slower, meaning that the people who used the larger boards would get bored of this one because there wasn't instant gratification like where was elsewhere. This filtered out the more aggressive & attention-whoring types who frequent those boards.

Conversations used to be cozier & generally more wholesome, we'd play like it was a hugbox calling it a "no bully zone" but would contrast that with posts so mean or absurd that they couldn't be taken seriously, the waifufagging was more self-aware & ironic, it was sort of openly known that people here were more passive laid-back hikikomori NEETs in contrast to the more childish & aggressive people of /a/ or /v/, and all of this added up to us having known for a while that /jp/ was Moot's favorite board since he would post with his admin tag to say it from time to time. Then, at AWA about a decade ago, Moot announced to everyone that /jp/ was his favorite board, and the culture was never the same from the resulting flood of people.

Crossboarders were always looked down upon because they would post with the gratification-expectant or otherwise self-righteous nature of the most active boards, then after they flooded in, they chipped away at a part of the Web that was unique. Playing video games doesn't make you a /v/ user, and being into """"""""""politics"""""""""" doesn't mean you engage with /pol/. Those places have cultures that don't necessitate you participating in the boards in order to have the interest. There's a baggage associated with them, and you know it. If you're into people trying to one-up each other's tastes all the time, then go to one of those boards. Here, when we discuss wich 2hu would fug, it's a silly light-hearted position that we don't defend by giving the impression that we seriously believe other people's opinions are shit. It was always a way of turning up our nose at people who turn their noses up at people, a little act of justice, though that articulation of it has probably been lost over the years.
