I played Sky Arena against NPCs, and the game didn't seem to have much going for it. Just circle strafing and managing cooldowns was enough to beat even the hardest NPCs. I hope they reworked it in Valkyrie to make it more engaging to dodge.

If multiplayer is the main appeal, I'm not too keen, since I don't want to get owned by Japanese superplayers who've played Sky Arena for 10 years. It might be cool if I can play against other noobs from /jp/.
Which characters are in? I remember Okuu being somewhat fun in Matsuri Climax, about as fun as a character can be in that game.

I've been playing that game a bunch recently. Just managed to get past the desert by formulating a strategy to beat the snot out of koishi before satori. And, while I was there, I finally got some sunstone so star can sunbathe. The difficulty is definitely going up at this point. I'm kind of regretting not getting some of the strategies I could have bought if I grinded stuff to sell earlier in the game since I'm stuck in this part of the game for now. I've tried to play it a few times but the controls are so awkward and you cant rebind any of them ingame. It's somewhat more tolerable with a controller but you still cant rebind any of those either. I'm surprised that there wasn't any touhou horror fangame yet, It has the potential to be effective depending on how you use the grim aspects of Gensokyo (outsiders getting eaten and stuff)

Perhaps a dark concept where you are an outsider brought in the SDM and you must escape without getting caught by the residents (which results in a death scene)

Loved Reloaded, but I don't know what they were thinking with Lotus Labyrinth.
Removing item fusion was bad enough, but then you have that awful party system that filled the screen with 20+ partners. Gameplay boiled down to ramming your mob against the enemy mob and waiting for each unit to take their turn, much less strategy involved. They even fucked up the mystery dungeon aspect cause you could just restart from the floor you died on.

>cause you could just restart from the floor you died on

TOD reloaded had the same thing as well if you restarted the game at every death. it was actually intentional since they could have easily made the game auto save at every death. Also lotus labyrinth R is a weird situation since it's a remake of an older game. It's a mix of new and old. I would have liked to take some of the QoL updates it has into reloaded without the shitty party system. I had fun with the game but I feel that it doesn't have as much replay value as reloaded due to the party system being heck. I also hate that they got Rie Tanaka to voice Joon. Her ability is actually a detriment to your party to have her in there since she trades your money for damage. I like Rie Tanaka's voice but not enough to ruin my runs.

sure but the only reason why the 2hu fighters have any kind of following is because they are 2hu. if it was an original IP nobody would have cared about these games because of all the bad mechanics. People also don't ever want to call out these games for being bad just because they are Tasofro / Zun. Also take a look at sf x t and see how hard it got blasted for its gem system. Fighting game players like solid mechanics with standardizes systems. The game introduced too many modifiers to the formula and nobody wants to waste their time on a game like that.

>>41655160
You can be dicked out defensive options just because you didn't draw the card you wanted. Basically any other fighter gives you all of your tools at your disposal. Also I view weather as an RNG system because they are massive modifiers that can drastically change a match based on when they come and go. They change how you play and situations can be played out differently with various types of weather. It would be a very different experience if the weather was just removed from the game.

People only play these games because its 2hu, not because its a good fighter. Soku wins out in popularity for being the oldest with the largest cast. If IAMP had the full cast of Soku then I'm sure a lot more people would rather play that one. AoCF and the others are also plagues with problems and it's no surprise more people play Soku over them this many years later.

>if it was an original IP nobody would have cared about these games because of all the bad mechanics
this is a really gay argument. An IP is a big part of the appeal, but an IP does not make a game good. I love Kill la kill, but the game is ass. i love OPM but the game is ass. I love one piece, but burning blood is ass. i love shonen jump but jump force was ass.
The IP gives it a boost, but if the game itself was bad, people would have moved on to newer and better touhou games.

It was originally a pretty terrible Chinese mod, but an anon from /jp/ started working on it and made it into something actually halfway decent, which spurred some other /jp/ anons into helping out too. The original anon apparently had another anon partner working with him too, but he disappeared so progress on the original mod stalled.

After some time, the one anon that was still working on it came into contact with the original Chinese devs, and helped reboot it into Tinder, which was basically a completely overhauled version of the original mod. Now he's helping them out with the Bannerlord version of the mod.

I still remember the very first threads where anon was posting his Warband stories and showing off the mod, time sure flies. It was noteworthy to me because I played the original mod back before then and it was pretty bad, they really turned it into something fun. /jp/ anons can do some cool stuff sometimes.

I added and played few new games at the end since I initially made the post.

Green = I enjoyed a lot and would highly recommend
Yellow = Decent but have some issues. Not all necessary bad but a bunch are games I will never replay or recommend. I still had fun in most of them regardless of mid ranking. Dropped a few of them and will never play them again.
Red = Games I outright didn't like or just didn't play at all due to not being translated or stuck in early access.

I got filtered by takkoman but the game is also weird as fuck to begin with. It is also not a very good action platformer either. I finished Yuuka but it had too many annoying gimmick stages to make me want to ever replay it. Mystia just got boring for me along with the annoying localization making it confusing and sometimes annoying to figure out what people actually wanted. It had cute sprite work but the gameplay loop wasn't very good.

Which one would ,you recommend first, Lotus Labyrinth R or Gensou Wanderer? I've heard that they're both in a weird spot of being different enough so release order doesn't really matter compared to the rest of Aquastyle's MD works.

>> No.41756368

gensowanderer is you want a more structured game, it also has a lot more content. Lotus Labyrinth has some quality of life improvements over it but it's mostly a big clusterfuck because of the large party system. Treat Lotus Labyrinth more like an expansion that makes the game cuhrayzee if you like the mystery dungeon elements in the series.

LMAO. Welcome to Aichiya's shitty romhacks. At least you didn't have to fight a fucking Vocaloid in the early game with 990 BST like in World Link.
Speaking of Another World's "sequel", it's more of a rebalance patch with a better leveling curve, rebalanced stats + movepools and better 2hu sprites (Though it doesn't fully fix the overworld's visual glitches). So you might want to give that one a try instead.
I can't tell you how much you'll enjoy it since I dropped it early on though. Puppet Dance Performances system pampered me way too much to enjoy Gen 3's archaic system.

In his defense, it was pretty clear he was a Deviantart kid and most of the games were made in like 2011-2013 back when Pokemon romhacking was both at its peak and (also kind of it's shittiest?), which is partially why they were so popular because the expectations were incredibly low and what was delivered was relatively (keyword) high. All to the point where it even managed to break free of being a Touhou game and managed to make it onto normalfags lists of Pokemon fangames to play back in the day.

But yeah, if you're going to be playing any of them just don't, play PDP instead. use the Revised patches, they dropped a couple years for both games and while I've yet to play them I can only imagine a rebalance from a fan almost a decade later will innately be better than the original game.

>> No.41784568

I wouldn't say suddenly, but I imagine MMX-likes are relatively easy to make. Doesn't have to be a long game, just has to have some unique powerups, and the genre is so dead that there's even Roguelikes of it. Not to knock on that genre, but it tends to have a lot of those "games people want to play but nobody is making" like Peggle or Beat 'em ups. We need more Zero-likes though, Gravity Circuit is nutso.

I hadn't originally planned to say anything, but I guess I do feel pretty bad about keeping things in the dark for so long.

This and that happened, and I've sort of been homeless for a while! Things happened suddenly and I even had to leave some stuff behind. So, right now my only possessions are a suitcase and a laptop. Didn't even have a bed to sleep on for a bit! My PC and RAID are stored somewhere safe though, at least, so none of the server-related stuff was lost.

I wish I could say I'd be back by such and such date, but honestly anything is up in the air at the moment. Could be as late as February or March. Once I've got a real place to stay again I'll think about what to do with the server, but for right now at least my hands are completely tied.

Ehhh it probably sounds worse than it is, really. I finally have newfound time to clear my backlog of VNs! Frankly being reduced to a single monitor is by far the biggest nuisance more than anything, really hinders any kind of productive work. Now that I've been without stuff for a while though you kind of realize how unimportant a lot of it is, can hardly say I even miss most of it.

As for the server - I'd hoped things would be more stable by now, but alas many months had passed before I even knew it. I don't like making threads myself, so I figured if somebody eventually complained about it then I'd offer an explanation. Though it is true that even before this I was pretty worn out from it at the time, so I can't blame my absence entirely on it. Scripting new stuff takes creativity and motivation, neither of which I really had at the time. It's sort of a downward spiral of not having motivation but also feeling increasingly pressured to do something, which causes you to feel even less motivated.

I would like to rehost it when things are normal again at least, my downtime's given me plenty of time for recreational thought and (hopefully!) some fun ideas.

The things that define MMZ from MMX are so unique that you're not likely to really find something "in the style" of it. Pretty much the only thing thing that at its core is different is having a sword and a ranking system, because the further you go into the Zero series the more you get the stuff like the pole or the Cyberelf system or Forms or Chips that's akin to say, a game where Suika can absorb bullets, where the character mechanics just make it "a unique spin on MMX" than it does make it a game like MMZ. What I don't get is why not just change the style of the game instead of calling it Shanghai.exe. don't think Capcom has the rights to the gameplay style considering path to eden is fairly similar but didn't get C&D as far as I know.

It's been explained extremely heavily in depth but ironically it's completely irrelevant now. If you're really curious go digging through the archives since it'll take me like two paragraphs to give a good rundown on what happened and whats happening going forward beyond that.

Can anyone who's beaten Three Fairies' Hoppin' Flappin' Great Journey help a dumbass out? I've beaten Dai at the lake, but now I need the extra jump height for the factory. Where can I find the "Patharan" fluff ball enemy to craft the rabbit tail+ with?

Go to the bamboo forest and talk to Reisen. Also, if you get stuck, don't be afraid to check the hints part on the menu. This is a bit of a spoiler, but you're going to have 3 different areas to visit soon. Each of them will be out of the "future" areas.

The touhou mod for bannerlord has honestly gotten me more hyped for the game than the game itself. Though, last I played it, it had been right after it came into open beta.

I should probably give it a try again now that it's released properly.

No game update/release for the cancelversary unfortunately, best I'll be able to do is a "progress" update. Might not even be able to hit the 18th either since something's come up on that exact date, so thread will either go up the day before (hopefully) or a few days after.

Probably going to be a bunch of spoiler posts to get feedback on the mechanics I've got rough plans for, and maybe some begging for assets before I resort to mspaint/google.
I'm already realizing that the posts are going to read like a postmortem "here's what my plans were", but I'm still "working" on it, even if it's the equivalent of a junk car sitting sitting in my driveway that I'll definitely get working some day.
That said, I did burn out on the game I was playing instead of doing anything productive with the time I did have, so things might be looking up.

Anyone else here who was part of GAP (Gensokyo Archival Project) a few months ago? Is there anything else we should try to recover that's old and in need of preservation? I remember a few Touhou fangames were basically on the edge of being lost to time until a few anons dragged them out of their harddrives.

>> No.41932483

>>41931589
I don't remember what happened to GAP after Moriya shrine went back up, but it is a shame because I would still like to help out in any way I can and people seem to have lost interest after it was no longer considered an emergency. Its ironic because what many people should have taken from this is that it can happen at any time and preservation is always a priority.

>> No.41932965

I have things I care about backed up my hard drive. I'm just not very good with technology so I haven't taken steps to make it accessible.
As it is now, it is still enough to make me sleep soundly at night, knowing nothing will be truly lost. I'm sure there are many other anons like me, too.

>> No.41933576

>>41932483
There's also the fact that the jay is now a board where threads need to get bumped every 10-ish hours to not fall off, which makes it really hard to keep a consistent thread up for preservation on top of the already mentioned loss of people once the knee-jerk reaction was over, and also the fact that all forms of preservation require at least someone to host a repository.

I mean, official translations for an officially released game on Steam. Sure I would be fine with the fanmade translation getting ported over too, but I'm pretty sure everyone who worked on the project years ago died or lost interest on Touhou long ago. Plus it's kind of cool to see doujin game devs who publish their things on Steam to recognize the western fandom enough that they're willing to have an official translation of their game too.
...Shame that we're in the current age of dubiously moralfag translators who throw themselves at Japanese artists who don't know any better at every opportunity.
At least I bought the game before the translation was even announced so I hope none of the cents I paid go to that fag.

>Plus it's kind of cool to see doujin game devs who publish their things on Steam to recognize the western fandom enough that they're willing to have an official translation of their game too.
As mentioned before, this is the very same man whose entire goal is to get on devs good sides by wiping out pirated copies of games. Which is what he tells himself anyways, but what's actually happening is an attempted deletion of things like fan-patches along with fangames, some of which may very well have been lost entirely due to his actions, so there's a huge difference between reality and what you're assuming the better of.

These are not "devs who saw a western audience and decided to push for a translation and accidentally stumbled onto a retard". These are "devs who were approached by a bootlicker actively trying to stomp out that audience so he could build his new foundation of top of it". By the mans own words when he targeted the shrine, he wanted to become some kind of ambassador.

Yeah, that's what I meant with the second line. I wouldn't be surprised if he immediately got into contact with them as soon as the Steam version was announced just to be the first in line to translate the game.
In any case, now that the deed is done, all I can do is hope the translation isn't absolute garbage. I'm still happy that I finally got to support Strawberry Bose after all the time I spent on this game anyway so I'll just consider this as another of their bad decisions, such as the endless DRM their games from NoR onwards had.

The only one that you'll find is the weekened version, and that already has a fan translation that's like a decade old. Mind you, it lacks the extra dungeons, characters, new skills, equipment, balance changes, etc. from the Steam version.

Also, I'm pretty sure the translation Hackanai makes won't be compatible in the least with Weekend. Or vice-versa.
You can't even get old saves from Weekend to work on the Steam version, and I'm pretty sure the engine is also completely different. Since this is a port of the console/Vita version of GoS (instead of the original PC version), which use different animations, sfx and screen resolution.

Man this isn't the first time this has happened either, the LoT2 update on Steam uses the Switch version which actually runs significantly better among other fixes but still.
