The best thing about the Umineko anime were the previews.

In fact, it's kind of sad that some of the previews contain information/characterization from the VN that wasn't put in the anime proper. For example, Siesta 556 was never mentioned by name or in passing in the anime itself, and was only brought up in one of the previews (specifically, the preview that had the other three Siestas speaking).

I still think the designs are alright.

The VAs were pretty good as well, with the possible exception of Rudolf.

I really liked the part during the first tea party where Battler told Beatrice that he would expose all her tricks and stuff. There were some nice facial/VA things going on in there. I had my hopes up.

The worst thing about the anime was that every time the bombshell and WTF and LOL I TROLL U moments happened, they felt like some red text flying by would be enough. It was a nice effect, and I thought they would use it during the EVA-Beatrice red web scene, but no. So it was weak.

Personally, I would remake the series this way: keep the VAs, get Bones/Madhouse/Studio 4C for animation, keep the ED the way it is while hiring ZTS to do music. Also, keep the trollfaces.

I didn't watch the anime, but from what I've heard and clips I've seen, this seems true. I think it's cool to see certain scenes animated. Plus even if the art does seem generic, that still makes it "better" than Ryukishi's, although I agree that the original art is more charming.
As an overall anime, it definitely has to be bad.

Anyway, to respond to the original topic at hand:
I read that the caps lock doesn't actually mean shouting. It just means it's all in katakana which.. apparently means talking in a really obnoxious way. Since there's no accurate way to translate that, they just put it in all caps.

You now realise how awesome Kinzo / Battler vs Erika / Dlanor would be if animated correctly / awesomely.

Though it will come out as a troll for this specific board, the anime isn't bad as an standalone if you either watched it first and didn't read the SN, or watched it without high expectations.

It's not the best or top tier of course, but as an adaptation it's better than what they did to the 4 question arcs and first 2 answer arcs of Higurashi (though most people are probably sick of all the slice of life they got rid of).

The main problem was that it's difficult to feel empathy for any character, they butchered their characterization in most cases. But some people already lack empathy for the characters after reading the SN anyway so dunno lol, I guess it's in the eye of the beholder.
