That's why he's such a failure of a detective. He's close with all these people. A detective shouldn't be a complete stranger, but he shouldn't be particularly close with the people in the story. This way, he can be impartial.

Battler spends most of his time playing with his cousins, or doing something which isn't particularly productive. He's a failure as a detective. He ought to have been a distant cousin, with no close ties with the people in Rokkenjima.

She was a much better detective than Battler. The issue is, she was set as an antagonist. So, naturally, she'd fail.

All the same, I wouldn't precisely ask for someone like Erika to be the detective, since she had too many outlandish abilities. However, a not-so related party, who is there when it counts, and who can do some decent research would have been the optimal choice.

Well, anyways, here's my Umineko shitlist:

Hideyoshi, because he's completely sane, rational, and a nice guy.

Kyrie, because math annoys me. But then again, white-haired yanderes do not.

Moon-chan, because Majora's Mask is the scariest video game you will play in your life.

Shannon - Because she's Kanon.

Kanon - Because he's Shannon.

Beatrice - Because she's Shannon. Or Kanon. Or both. Wait, hold on a tic, nevermind, she's a bomb. I mean a teapot. Oh wait, no, nevermind, I meant Jessica.

Nanjo - Because he is really shitty at confirming deaths.

Gohda - The dude is waaaaaaaay too talented to be cooking at some crazy dead dude's house, he should join Iron Chef or something.

Rosa - She is sleeping with the culprit, but then again, she sleeps with everyone.
