・So called anime cards. Words cards are proven to be less effective than targeted sentence cards (TSCs).
・Garbage videos and youtube channels, shitty apps, translations, learning kanji instead of vocab, Genki, Imabi, RTK, KKLC, Wanikani, Duolingo, Bunpro, Kodansha, Tobira, whatever you're using, language schools, Italki, JLPT, Kanji Kentei tests and many other scams
・Genki, Japanese From Zero, Pimsleur, japanesepod101, Memrise, Duolingo and other blue-pilled resources.
・any rentry.org and геddiт "guides". nothing good has ever come out of геddiт.
・Core 2.3k, Core 2k and any "Core" Anki decks. They are based on newspapers from early 90s and additionally sorted in a way that makes learning harder. Try Ankidrone Starter Pack instead.
・Anacreon. Anacreon is an infamous spammer. He constantly hijacks our threads to shill his shit.
・Discord servers. Discord is malware that runs a data mining operation. Ask questions on Matrix.
・Refold, Migaku and other money grab schemes.
・Visual novels. Experienced learnmaybe_good/vmess_20.2.85.115_ers say they're trash because of unnatural speech and useless vocabulary. Most VNs are proprietary.
・Cure Dolly. Read All About Particles instead.

Good evening everyone. I was referred to this place by a kind anon after having a discussion about the many localization issues in games. However after that recommendation some anons starting bickering over one of the guides commonly shared allegedly being made by some patreon shill and is less effective than the other ones. The two I've seen here are itazuraneko and tatsumoto. Looking at them both they seem pretty similar and basically cover the same thing so what's really something negative about them? But that aside I've been more or less learning on my on. I have the kana memorized and am currently using the core 2.3k deck as recommended in that previous thread. My reading speed overall is still slow even if it's all kana but I assume that should soon improve.

I just disagree about VN being garbage, this is the best way to learn Japanese IMO. Anime is voice only, manga has light text with no voices, VN has heavy text AND is voiced. But I agree with the rest and the Tatsumoto guide is my favorite.
