Pretty much this.

Umineko is a good, tough mystery that by and large follows the rules enough to be interesting. It is built with the assumption that the reader should try to solve it.

The Sherlock Holmes movie assumes its viewers are idiots and is simply built to show Sherlock Holmes solving a mystery. There's nothing interesting about that.

If you read mystery novels for the ending as opposed to the mystery, you pretty much fail at the genre.
