DA are the main enemy of the church and I don't think that demons are particularly worse. One of the BA members is the only one whose prophesied as able to deal with a proper demon though since that's where his specialty lies. I doubt demons in general are that much of an issue since they're of a different sort of order. Kiara demonized and ascended but then fucked off back to be a BA since she's more special that way. Once you do that you're probably no longer part of the same relevant world or comparing yourself to the same sort of creatures.

Near side and particularly Arc's route has always been this neat little self-contained vampire story focused on western themes, with stuff like the vatican and the church, while Far side was about japanese themes like onis, the demon hunter clans and the skeletons in the Tohno family's closet. You discover Nanaya's old japanese-designed room, SHIKI is dressed in japanese clothings etc.

And it was even reflected in the Tohno mansion being half european and half japanese in style, as well as the maids with one being dressed like a western maid and the other having asian clothes.
Even Hisui is hinted at being eurasian. The symbolism is there, it really did feel like two different flavors of chuuni stories and atmospheres.

The transition from this scene to the Mio one is weird as shit. A couple threads ago someone mentioned that Shiki got bitten in the process and he's probably right since

Maybe sort of? A lot of this stuff I originally read a long ass time ago so when I re-read it in Japanese, it was a pretty fresh experience. Obviously, I remembered the main plot points, but most of the details were gone from my head by then. I guess the biggest difference when reading it in Japanese is that you can actually appreciate the prose. Nasu is a good writer and his text is fun to read. That's not necessarily true of every eroge/VN writer.
