After reading EP 5 I am even more convinced.

I wouldn't care if it played like Meltan, I want an Umineko fighting game dammit

White and Black each have different pieces. Obviously they play the same, they're just different for flavor.

Magic side:
Pawn: 7 Stakes & Goat-kun
King: MARIA
Queen: Beatrice
Rook: Virgilia & Goldsmith
Bishop: Ronove & Gaap
Knight: Furfur & Zepar

Human side:
Pawn: Parents + Kumasawa
King: Battler
Queen: Erika
Rook: Kanon and Shannon
Bishop: George and Jessica

I have no idea who the knights should be, just throw Nanjo and Gohda there.

It wouldn't be confusing to memorize because anyone who plays with it is obsessed with Umineko anyway.

Actually, two games are played at once, with both the top and bottom of the chessboard, and flipping the chessboard counts as half a turn. Pointing, cackling, or saying "it's all useless!" counts as the other half. The entire game is played out this way, and no pieces may be moved except by the Game Master, who is a third person playing the game by himself. The winner is whoever can hold their breath the longest after the GM finishes playing by him/herself.

I was thinking more like just regular chess, but with those character pieces. I suppose if they're character pieces, you could use them for any position you want. For example, make Battler a knight and Gohda the king, just for the hell of it. Changing the rules would be a bit much.

ADDENDUM: Each person also has a little rubber hammer that is either blue or red, and whenever HAMMER TIME is declared (by whoever, really), the person with the blue hammer must try to hit the person with the red hammer as many times as possible before being hit once. This process is repeated ad infinitum, even after the game ends (especially after the game ends). If neither player concedes, another game must begin, no exceptions.

Now that I think about it, that really would be fun to play. Just as you're about to lose, the chessboard is flipped and you gain the upper hand. It would require a lot of concentration to win a chess game played like that, but goddamn if it wouldn't be more interesting and fun to play.

>> No.4045565

>>4045530
So the people who enjoy Umineko are those who enjoy senseless masochism?
How about having the chessboard rotating constantly and the table going up and down while you concentrate, or when you move a pawn at the opposite end, the piece it promotes too is decided randomly or can just vanish by bad luck?

>> No.4045579

>>4045541
I think it would be pretty fun since you're basically fighting your own strategy with a strategy that someone else set up for you.

>> No.4045590

Both players would purposefully set themselves up to be in god awful positions, like exposing their kings, just to take it as soon as their next however many turns are available. It'd be a clusterfuck of ruining yourself until somebody just barely ruins himself the least. You could interpret that to be similar to Umineko, but that's a stretch, all things considered.

>> No.4045596

>>4045579
Chess does not work that way.
You add unnecessary moves that stall the game a 100 times over(since when it flips, you can just ruin positions till it flips again)

>> No.4045603

>>4045541

I'm a pretty good chess player and I don't think I can completely dismiss it as a failure without trying it, the implications are simply too complicated to dismiss offhand. A game like that would start involving intentional bad play and plans far more complex than in ordinary chess.

>> No.4045610

>>4045590
>>4045596
Of course, those theories only work if you plan to stick to 1 side. If you want to be the white pieces, and you want to win with the white pieces, then you're too narrow minded. If you want to win regardless of what color pieces you're using, and your opponent feels the same way, then of course it's going to be more fun.

>> No.4045622

>>4045596

Since you would still lose by checkmate you can't ruin it too much. Also you can'T move in to checkmate in x turns if this x would be greater than the turns till the board flips again. I would like to try it, I guess.

>> No.4045627

>>4045610
Your ideas of fun are way too fucked up.
It's like people playing reversi, switching sides at random and trying to have equal pieces instead of winning or losing.
Senseless masochism with circumstances that ruin your train of thought.

I don't think that's true. Sure, you might get a few weak players that actually try that, but you're forced to switch every x minutes. 'Just trying to survive till you can get back to the other side' won't cut it if the other player immediately continues attacking you.

>> No.4045692

>>4045677
The point is:
The nature of the game does not change, since you aim in the end for an advantageous positioning each turn in the chessboard.
Switching just STALLS the process. For no really good reason.

>> No.4045704

>>4045627
Okay, I understand that my idea of fun is more than a little bit masochistic. Be that as it may, it still sounds like a good idea to me. I'll need to try this out with somebody pretty soon, to see if it'll really work.
Also, whats wrong with reversi? It's fun to play every now and then. And this version of chess isn't very similar to reversi, perhaps you should have chosen a better comparison.
Still, I'm not going to try to protect or attack this new version of chess until I've tried it for myself.

>> No.4045705

>>4045677
It'd be relentless offensive on both sides, regardless, with 0 disregard for actual strategy since any attempt at trying to build up to a long-term one is pointless. Ultimately, it'd just be a fight of whoever can adapt the best to their opponent's stupidity.

>> No.4045723

The circumstances of REVERSI I pointed out is the problem, not the game itself.

In that case you're right.
How about we make the switch happen randomly?

And of course I'm not saying that it would be a 'more fun' way of playing chess or something silly like that.
But I can imagine it being a fun way to play, even if it's just one game.

>> No.4045735

Generally the trend would be towards playing your best still because you would never know when you have to play either side. But there would be the addition of people adding in intentional (hopefully hidden) weaknesses they can take advantage of. Imagine just how complicated it would get- you're moving forward a plan, taking the other side's pieces and suddenly you have to play from that position in four more moves. You would be like "oh shit, I better pull back now." Yep, it would be crazy. Not sure if an end game would be even possible.

>> No.4045749
