My problem with the game was the forced route structure. I was used to getting to choose which route to follow based on your decisions, but it was taking too long for that so I looked it up and saw it wasn't like that and dropped it. I assume this works in the game's favor from a story perspective, but by that point even the single character whose design I had initially liked (Hanazawa) had already been shown as an uninteresting character in the few appearances he had and the only thing keeping me going was hoping I would maybe change my mind in his route or at least enjoy the sex scenes, but I was already sick of the focus on Minakami and Tamamori being an obnoxious little bitch, I didn't want to keep going to finish that route and then have to do Kawase's too before I could reach what interested me. The overall story was okay, but if I couldn't care less about any of the characters it was hard to continue playing.

I think it's part of that phenomenon where anything female targeted is assumed to only be for girls whereas things for men are (supposedly) for everyone. I'm just speculating here, but I think media that's explicitly shoujo demographic mixed with another genre is seen as alienating half the audience it could have had if it was more 'neutral' (that is, mainly aimed at a male audience). Female readers who want action or fantasy will just read another demo's manga for that, and if they want romance they create it themselves via shipping, so the only thing that's worth putting in the shoujo magazine are romance comics that don't have a niche anywhere else and have no cross demographic appeal at all.

Shoujo magazines might be ridiculously limited now, but they weren't always like that. Sure there were always a lot of "angsty" series focused on human drama, but they usually involved interesting settings, often historical, and a lot of the more popular ones were straight-up tragedies, like The Rose of Versailles. Sci-fi/Fantasy shoujo was still pretty popular even up to the 90's, like Kanata Kara, Basara, and Boku no Chikyuu wo Mamotte. Hell, Yona sells pretty well, so it's not like the audience for it just vanished.
It's just that most other magazines became way more limited in what they publish. We do still get a lot of wallowing in feelings these days, but it's often from wooden non-characters in a boring school setting, prompted by some stupid misunderstanding and having no real consequences.
These villainess webnovels aren't all that different from boring modern shoujo in those aspects, and they do somehow sell, so maybe the ritualistic mind-numbing repetition of that boring bullshit is just what people like now.

Overall I enjoyed it, but it's literally carried by the art more than anything. It's really good and even the CGs for the sex scenes are quite sexy.

Alas, the translation is utter shit, it's obviously machine translated so all the sex scenes are the most unsexy thing ever (The translation kept using "Intestines" for "insides"). Also for some reason YuChuan (who was my favorite) never gets naked.

The routes were a bit uneven, red haired boy had the worst one for me, it features some mundane drama and very little sex CGs for some reason. CingSyuan started as your mundane normal friend but it actually gets kinda crazy toward the end with the infamous yandere bad ending, it ended up being fairly entertaining. YuChuan was my favorite, it's actually felt like the most "serious" one and he also has the most sex CGs. He's also the one that featured the less noncon relationship, despite the first sex scene. I wish the translation wasn't so shitty so I could have enjoyed his story more

I usually do Hunt 4 80%, but I used my stocked up energy potions, skip tickets, the constant energy fills from levelling up, and spirit gems just for Hunt 5 80% because of today's light based enemies. But for me it's Shu. I don't use to agree with nips, but Shu completly stole my heart in Dark Fate. Since that game he became my absolute favorite. I don't know if he's still like that in his other card stories. Eiden's fake evil sorcerer curse really had me laughing especially when Edmond played along. I read the recent update made him better, but I was hoping for SSR Quincy at least so I could upgrade him to 2* for the trials.

If you want something to laugh, go and look for the best older brother and the scariest younger brother roundtable competitions. They're very funny.
As for the rest, you should try listening those of your favorite guys. All Para-Selene CDs are worth listening to, though. I think they're the sweetest of all.
The versus series are quite satisfying. Maybe, you can check out Shu vs Reiji. It's much better than Shu vs Ayato since in that one Shu seems kind of OOC compared to his self in the rest of the series.
Shu vs. Ruki is good too since takes place in Lost Eden scenario and he uses the Vampire King's powers, but has a hard time trying to control them. Also, Shu and Ruki make an interesting pair since they're bothe elder brothers and both are smart.
Shu and Yui in the garden of roses in the More;Blood series is another good one too. It's one of my favs.

He wasn't my favorite in the first game either, but his route reveals pretty much all the secrets so skipping his side it's impossible. I have always had the same issue. I only get to see the menu, but the game itself never runs. Initailly, I thought it was a language configuration (don't mind the weird characters in pic related since I haven't my Windows configres right now), but in the end it turns out to be a compatibility issue. The problem is that if you try to execute it using the options Windows offers, the issue isn't solved. The only thing I have't tried is running the gae directly from a Win 98 or 2000.

Speaking of do-M and corda I just finished my first corda 1 playthrough a while ago. I went for Yunoki since he was a combo of some of my fave tropes: two-faced bitch + long hair + traditional japanese culture. Him playing flute was also a bonus since that was the instrument I played back in high school. I had some japanese guides open while I played, but the playthrough was pretty blind to get a feel of the gameplay. I won the competition pretty easy, but I didn’t get his ending. In a way, you're lucky, anon. Because today you can find anything and download/get what you want very quickly. When I got into otome everybody used Rapidshare and Mega and just a few people were kind enough to share their stuff on MediaFire, which was the best file host 15+ years ago. Internet speed was shit too.
I'm not exactly sure if I got into otome thanks to HaruToki or Corda (anime) by 2006 - 2007. I got curious about the games behind them and ended in sikrit groups on LJ sharing stuff with other yumejos.
A bit later, I got into BL, when a new generation of authors debuted in June mag and Hanaoto. It was refreshing since the old BL material available for readers had those weird character designs that more thanluring you to read them, made yiu cringe (those with wider backs than Slow Damage characters + formal clothing). There was not much variety aside from your regular sadistic salaryman.
When I finally had some series I enjoyed, I looked for the BLCDs that were being released at that time. I was surprised to see that many seiyuu I liked from otome were also voicing BL characters. I have always felt attracted to certain voices Midorikawa is the one to blame the most, so I couldn't resist giving them a try. In the end, those lewd dramas took this fascination to another level. Listening to your favorite seiyuu moaning as a character you like is priceless after all.
I ended up investing in my fav otome and BL series, and still like them a lot. I invest more in otome, though.
Although I haven't been able to keep up with many otome games and with all the BL content that's available out there nowadays which is a lot and maybe too much to really keep up with it while having a life in the latest years because of my job, I still collect stuff and spare time for this.

Sugiyama was super fun in CZ. Yeah, he doesn't have a lot, unfortunately. Yandere kuns really fit him. Jp fujos can have really shit taste sometimes, if uke doesn't scream like an AV actor or like he is getting raped by a chainsaw, they don't like it. I find Sugiyama's moans niche. Not that loud or exaggerating, kinda soft & calm and he has an alluring sexiness in his voice in general. He is great as a yandere too. Western fujos didn't like him much too, from what I remember. A miracle can happen, he got a main role in otome after some while, I believe in him!

His meltdowns are HOT Roles of him that I really liked in vn were in PersonA, Si Nis Kanto (seme), and Hanakage (soft uke). He was fun with Hirarin in Kichiku Megane, but don't remember much unfortunately, need to replay this kamige. His Omerta blcds are from his best roles, I hope you enjoy them anon!

Started with otome anime adaptations. Had absolutely no idea what visual novels were. I was young too about 12? Then got into bl. And came upon some Tumblr leaks out of nowhere one day. Then found some Livejournal groups, anri, yotaku/aarin. Started emulating PSP games too, once the emulation got better, rip nicoblog.
Drama CDs were all over tumblr. But nowadays, drama CDs are hard to find. They bully to death those who attempt to share something. Chinkdream kicked me out too when the drama occurred, they didn't appreciate my nihaos and pinyin attempts. ;_;

For some reason most of them agreed that Kamiya was the uke god 10 years ago, but I always thought that he was surpassed by Yusa and Hirarin. I don't know, maybe it has to do on how realistic the moans sound in a Japanese way (?). Who knows, really.

It still is being overpriced where I live. Even the used ones. I think sellers do know it still is a based console. I understand you. Rejet offers better games than Otomate, and the most based titles from Koei were released there. Kinda sucked they're all porting to Switch. I like Sony better.
