>> No.3931015

It was approaching late afternoon, and the light rain that had drizzled down for most of the day had finally ended. The sun was coming out, and the flowers were all raising their heads to gaze at it. Good light, good water, good soil, it was all good, and they were all singing. It was all so beautiful...
Of course, the beauty of the flower-song wasn't something she could share easily. Most... people... couldn't hear it, but that was okay. As long as they didn't interfere with the flower-song, it was good. When they did interfere, and turn one of the happy voices into a sap-curdling shriek, she had to go out and make them... stop. It wasn't something she cared to do, but it had to be done. It had to be. Otherwise, the screaming wouldn't stop, and that was bad, very, very bad.
Things were good right now. There wasn't any screaming, just the happiest of the plant-songs. She walked out in the field, mud squishing from between her toes, such a simple, wonderful feeling... Going barefoot had been such a marvelous suggestion! Shoes just got in the way, a barrier between her and the rich soil, possessed with all its wonderful qualities. Sometimes she would just stand in the mud all day, arms raised to the heavens, enjoying the soil and sun as much as any of her precious flowers did.
Happy though that made her, it still paled to the sort of happiness the evening would bring. Even now, inside the humble house that she had made because people found it odd that she lived in the sunflower fields, a bit of food waited. It was nothing much, a humble arrangement of bread and meat, but it produced happiness. It wasn't her happiness, but the happiness of the one that made her happy, and that was good enough. It was the sort of happiness that only love could bring.
Namely, the love Anon had for sandwiches, and the love she had for Anon. He was such a good husband.

>> No.3931024

>>3931015

Her enjoyment was interrupted as a dot in the sky came near. It was that that human witch, what's-her-name... Mary? Marica? Mmm, it didn't matter, humans were so short lived anyway. Just take a good long nap, and they'd go and die. Sometimes even such a short life evidently wasn't short enough, and they'd try and murder her precious flowers. Really, she even warned them at least once a decade. They had no excuses. At least this one had the good sense to listen, and even tried to emulate her. If the witch had been a bit better behaved, and not liable to drop dead any given year, she might've kept her as a pet. Anon had mentioned something about her, but she couldn't quite remember... The witch slowed down, sitting astride her broom, thankfully mindful of the flowers as she approached.
She smiled at the witch. The witch smiled back. Looking a bit closer, it appeared that the witch was injured. An arm in a sling, bandages over one eye, and a slight scent of disinfectants hovered about her. How dreadful.
"Is it true?"
Ah, but what was truth? Unfortunately, humans seemed to never understand their own questions, and usually meant something else entirely. It was usually something absurdly simple, too.
"Is what true?"
"That you married that monster!"
Her smile twitched, and she brought the tip of her parasol up. "I do hope you aren't talking about my dear Anon, as he's nothing of the sort."
The witch got a strange look in her eye. Was that a hint of fear? The smell in the air said so. It was intoxicating.
"Yuka, please, just hear me out... Anon isn't as great as he seems. He's done horrible things to his previous wives... Don't you find it the least bit suspicious that they keep dying less than a year after he marries them?"

>> No.3931042

>>3931024
"Oh yes, my poor Anon, he's lost so much. This time will be different for him. I'm not some clumsy youkai or a fragile human, and there aren't any bathtubs to slip and drown in around here."

"That's not what happened at all! He killed them, all of them! He finds one woman, dotes on her obsessively until she marries him, and then he slowly grows tired of them. At first he just ignores and neglects them, but it soon gets worse. His apathy quickly changes to anger, and he'll start to beat them. Then his eye will wander, and he'll find a new woman to dote over. He never divorces, his temper flares to the point where he kills them in a fit of rage! Alice... Alice was the first, and he's just kept going! Even those that don't catch his eye are in danger. Do I have to repeat what happened to the Scarlet Devil Mansion? I've lost too many friends because of Anon, and while we've not exactly been on the best of terms, I don't want you to wind up the same way!"

Her eyes narrowed. "Listen, human. Anon is a wonderful person. I wouldn't have known how nice going barefoot could feel if he hadn't insisted I not wear shoes, and all he ever asks for is a bit of time alone when he gets home from work. He even waters the flowers by the house with his own special fertilizer. Ah, if only you could meet such a man, I'm sure you'd understand... but that won't ever happen if you keep trying my patience."

The witch sank lower, her magic failing as her will evaporated. "Then I'm too late again... I- I should go. Maybe I can at least keep the the Aki sisters out of-"

"Oh, don't bother with them. I nipped that problem in the bud. They won't be tempting Anon anytime soon."

The witch paled. How odd. "You didn't..."

An idea came to her that would solve this problem. "You know, perhaps you should learn about gardening. It'll make you very happy."

>> No.3931059

>>3931042
That had gone well. Just as she thought, there was nothing to compare to the simple joy of caring for a plant. Everyone she introduced it to just became so happy. However, that was then, this is now, and Anon was enjoying his sandwich while she dusted. He kept bringing in lovely soil and leaving it on the floor, but houses weren't the right places for soil, or so everyone said. At least Anon always tracked in a nice layer for her. He was so nice, even though work made him quite dour. More people should be so lucky as to have such a wonderful man.
He finally looked up at her for a moment. He practically jumped out of his chair and snatched the broom from her hands. "Whose broom is this?! I've told you you're not supposed to be talking to others, especially Marisa!"

"That's it! She dropped by earlier, and I was trying to remember her name all evening. Thank you, dear."
"So you were disobeying me!"
He gave her a playful slap. Come to think of it, it did look rather nasty from afar, what with the wide arc and all. Marisa must have just been mistaken, not that the witch would be a bother now that she had a plant to enjoy and take care of. Still, she had upset poor Anon, and now he was all excited.
"I'll fix that bitch for good the next time I see her! She won't be so lucky this time! Which way did she go?"
"Oh, she's still here."
"WHAT?!"
"She's in the sunflower field. Do you want to see her now?"
Anon gave her nose a love tap with his fist. She staggered back a few steps, love had made her off balance. He grabbed her and held her tight as he stomped out, heading for the field. He gave her a few more love taps on the way, stopping once he found Marisa's tattered hat on the ground. "WHERE IS THAT BITCH?"
She almost couldn't stop herself from giggling, and pointed down.

>> No.3931089

>>3931059
It seemed that her dear Anon didn't get it. He could be a bit slow sometimes. She stuck a finger in the ground and blew the top layer of soil away, just strong enough to move dirt but not so strong as to damage the roots of her newest sunflower, or what they held. As soon as the dust cleared, her husband's jaw dropped. She doubted he could have known just how much a little gardening could improve someone's mood, as he hadn't been interested in her hobby until now. Maybe he was even a little jealous of her botanical pride and joy!
Marisa was just as happy as when she had left her. And who wouldn't be? Animals and plants just worked together so well once you knew how everything fit. Even now, the thick roots wrapped around the witch were giving her everything she could ask for and taking everything she produced. Air, food, water, the perfection of the whole meant nothing would ever be wasted. That alone was enough to provide the simple joy of a fulfilled existence. There was even enough to spare to give the animal half the highest form of happiness they could feel. She really hated to interrupt, but she pulled the root from Marisa's mouth, holding it back even as it tried to reconnect. The smells were so intense this close, it made it hard to concentrate, especially with her beloved at hand. The entire land seemed to be warming up.
"I'm- Ah! -sorry! I take it all- Ah! -back!"
Anon finally got around to talking after a minute or so of watching. "Oh god, that's hot."
That did it. She couldn't wait any longer. Lunging at Anon, they both collapsed into the roots, melding into one as only a husband and wife could. Best of all, it would never end, not for Anon, or any of her other husbands that time threatened to take. They were all too good for death, so she kept them. All of them, everyone who needed to be happy, for as long as her flowers sang.
Forever and ever and ever.
