Only one I care about is Loli Yukari and maybe Space Ranger Kaguya. All of Reimu's attacks are already in the game since she is a boss and they are pretty boring.

Got done reincarnating Ran-shama before the luna duo has to take their spots in the school in a few days. Reincarnated Ran's damage is pretty good actually since she is one of those early day character who just randomly was able to get +10 attack instantly. Elements are still trash tho.

I can't wait to roll in the next jap banner for the chance of getting Sakuya. What an amazing character. Having no effect on her LW really shows her power. She doesn't need any crutches. Anti-vampire slayer to remove SFES Flan from any matches. Mostly no elements on her spells, with 0 on her AoE attack, just like Loli Junko. Single target LW NUKE just like Hecatia. Speed scaling just like Little Yuyuko, with lots of speed buffs and one of the highest base speeds in the entire game. +1.0 power skill to instantly burst fools down. It's the best of all worlds in one character.

Kinda funny how Sakuya is one of the worst characters in the game while Retro Sakuya is one of the best. Same with Marisa too. If you look at all the retro characters and their original version you have
Reimu: decent, Retro Reimu: one of the best
Marisa: terrible once you get past the first few hours, Retro Marisa: also really good
Sakuya: bad, Retro Sakuya: elemental break machine
Sanae: heals but does 0 damage, Retro Sanae: also heals decently but does a lot of damage
Cirno: breaks ice status but does nothing else, Retro Cirno: good debuffer
Yukari: kinda ok but takes time to get going, Retro Yukari: one of the best characters
Reisen: gimmicky and rarely does anything, Retro Bun: status effect buffs and lots of elements
Aya: fast and nothing else, Retro Aya: good debuffer and good damage
Nitori: lol, Retro Nitori: actually does damage now
Hijirin: mostly useless tank, Retro Hijirin: can actually deal damage and has the awesome status effect = buff passive effect
Kanako: mostly useless tank, Kanakp: good support and good damage and has some metal breaks
Alice: only has a few buffs and does nothing else, Retro Alice: really high damage and good status effects
Patchouli: has some elemental breaks which were pretty rare but has one of the worst LW in the entire game, Retro Patchouli: spams fire status like no tomorrow and can break it.

There are a lot of retro 2hus by now when you look at them all.

I think the funniest thing about some of the old characters is how pathetic their stat scaling actually is. Sakuya might have speed scaling, speed buffs and high base speed but the highest scaling bullet she has is at 20%. For a random comparison, Futo has 100% as her highest bonus.

A lot of the early characters are so bad that you would have to rework their entire kits. They did it for a few characters but releasing new ones means people need to spend more cubes, which in turn means more people paying for rolls. They even have the retro versions show up in the plot so no one can complain about them being irrelevant bait.

Go to their pages in gamepress or whatever equivalent and check how hard their spellcards scale.
The damage is usually pretty understandable, but the effects are what you want to look at.
Some characters go from lv1 to lv3 at 5*, but some like Skater Marisa gets a new level of Yang up for every awakening.
Otohime also goes from 1 poison that she autobreaks to 2 poison on her solo spellcard at 5* so there's utility in that.

I have a couple of character who are staying at low cost for story card and event grinding while everyone else is free game. I also upgrade every SFES unit I have at lvl 100 to 5 stars because it feels like a waste to spend all those resources only to prevent the character from reaching her full power. I 12SP all of my relevant characters and had no issues grinding stuff. Meta farming is only really relevant if you are basically upgrading everything including trash characters and cards. Hell, just preparing a 8sp version along a full power version of a character feels like unnecessary grinding on its own.

If you can solo a regular node and 36sp an EX challenge then you should be fine.

I cleared out the EX shop at 36sp a run and even though that should be 90k sp I had so much SP reserved in mail that I barely felt the squeeze.
I'm still sitting on effectively 95k sp right now once the part 2 shop opens up, that's not even counting any login bonuses coming in.
I understand trying to be conscious of your SP, but I can't see how it ever becomes a problem beyond the first few months.
Best solution for him would be to wait and see what types of setups people come up with and if they require specific awakenings to achieve. There's no rush to awaken early unless you want to do the rebirth.

50/50, you are trading 60 normal shit rolls, that will probably give you cards only anyway for a few very good rolls with guaranteed unit, but not neccesarily a good one. Seems a bit disappointing, imo. Her poison is single target; skill inflicts both 2 poison and 2 blind. Her solo sc breaks poison @ 2P and her spread shot breaks blind @ 3P. Man, what's up with blind breaks being so expensive?

PCB Alice has something similar but does it better: inflicts 2 burn and 2 paralysis to a single opponent and she can break both @ 3P with her all-target sc. Only edge Eirin has is that her anomalies last 3 turns instead of Alice's 2.

Eirin can inflict a bunch of poison and blind on herself and gets defensive buffs for it, so she's going to be very tanky. She can easily fill up her entire barrier with these things. Hopefully she has good hard scaling.

Moon EX' card drop rate is ass as always but at least there is a shop this time.

Well Sagume is really good and her damage is nuts for a "support". But it's also a consequence of the way the list works. It seeks to quantify various performance criteria and then add them together to get an overall score. This method has some perks, but on the other hand the end result is completely dependent on the algorithm and can be divorced from reality. Like PCB Alice being a tier above SFES Flan. Flan's damage makes her shortcomings irrelevant in practice but when put through this algorithm she fails to check the utility and break boxes so down she goes. The list measures checking said boxes directly and then indirectly triangulates end performance.

The Japanese on the other hand do the opposite. They look at how a character performs and then work backwards to figure out why. Flan blows up everything = 10/10, details don't matter. Downside to this is that the result is less based in objective criteria and more prone to subjective impressions, upside is that it's a more direct measure of usefulness. EoSD Patchy is a good example of this. The google doc tier list hates her because her use case is pretty narrow so she didn't check boxes, while the nips gave her a 9.5/10 rating because said narrow use case (3 burn anomalies to all & can break them) is really useful in harder content.

tl;dr supports get rated highly on the discord list because it naturally values jack-of-all-trade types while the nips' system prefers a character be really good at at least one thing. There are advantages and disadvantages to both approaches.

SFES Remi has around 90% accuracy but Flan is 100%. If I had to come up with weaknesses for Flan it would be stuff like her having mixed attack types on her regular spells which makes it difficult to boost the damage. Her AoE spell also has 2 non-elemental hits in it. But it doesn't really matter because her single target spell is still probably the strongest non-LW spell in the game.
