The problem is that it so hard to find info on bootlegs, because for obvious reasons they make it hard to find out who actually made the fumo you're buying.
And even if you do find out, there's next to no info on them online. I just decided to bite the bullet and buy one for ~35€ that was listed on my local Amazon. I'll gladly report about it, but it won't be here until mid-February.

I got a reimu bootleg off aliexpress, and to compare to my real one, the face is a little smaller, the ribbons are made of cheaper material, and the legs seem off a little, but if they weren't sitting side by side they'd look pretty close to people who aren't familiar with fumos

I haven't lurked for very long here, but I think I've found a pretty sure-fire way to distinguish them, as long as you've got a decently high-res pic.
It's all in the pattern of the fabric. Let's take >>38299979 and >>38296612 as examples.
You can see how the pattern on the fake is made up of well defined horizontal lines, while it's barely noticeable on the genuine fumo and the fabric is mostly fuzzy.
The pattern is harder to notice on cirno here >>38336045 but you can still make it out and especially notice the lack of fuzziness.
I'll leave the last word to the experts here.

Sounds like too much effort to be worth it. The point of bootlegs (in general) is that you can dump them out for cheep en masse and sell them bellow market rates.
Making exact copies (or something close to it) would also mean that you'd have to increase the production quality and by that point you're just making fumos, except that you'd probably have to jump through a lot of hoops to sell them at profitable prices (faking tag, button, etc.)
At least that's what I assume.
If it was more profitable than selling cheap, obvious bootlegs people would probably be already doing it.
Or maybe that's what they want you to think and 2nd hand "genuine" fumo supply has been supplemented with indistinguishable fakes for years and we are none the wiser

What music do Fumos like?

For those who where interested here's my review of the Koishi bootleg (see below for pics) I got off German Amazon https://www.amazon.de/Pl%C3%BCschtier-Kirisame-Spielzeug-Kuschelkissen-Dekoration/dp/B09883BT2L/ref=sr_1_6. There are two listings, but this one was cheaper and had a review. By the way searching for "fumo plush" gives you more results than just "fumo". As long as you're buying off Amazon you should be good I think, they're already selling you a bootleg, no reason to scam you more, and if they don't deliver you can probably just contact Amazon and get you money back.
The shipping took about 2 weeks and was faster than advertised, which is nice, though tracking was a little fucky. It came in a plastic bag and nothing else so it was a little dented, especially the hat. But having it out of the bag for a while already has it reverting to it's intended shape. Also it smelled very strong of Chinese factory after unpacking, but that was gone quickly too.
I should add a disclaimer, that I've never seen a genuine, so I can only compare to photos. I'll even admit to being a dirty crossie who just came here to get some info on fumos since this is a gift for a friend.
Overall it is definitely "good enough" as some other anons said. It's softer than I imagined, though still a little stiff. It's less fuzzy as >>38346742 pointed out and there are visible vertical lines (especially close up and on flash photography) but it still feels fuzzy and at some distance the lines are barely visible unless you're looking for them. The material do feel a little cheap and some of the stitching is shitty, but given the price I expected as much. As I said I have nothing to compare it against, but I have a feeling it looks more "shiny" on flash photography than a genuine would.
I'd say the worst part of it (and other bootlegs I've seen) is that they have this weird head shape. I guess "weak chin" is the best way to put it. Makes them look a little fat/retarded I guess it's something you have to live with.
Oh yeah, also the brim of the hat is tilted down more than it probably should be, I don't know if that's just because of the packaging and will sort itself out eventually or if it'll stay that way. I hope I didn't forget anything.

I bought this one as a gift but seeing how alright it is certainly makes me consider getting one for myself. Eventually. Fumos are cute and all, but collecting merchandise like this just isn't my thing, they just end up collecting dust on a shelf or in some box.
