The first Nep game was in 2010 on the ps3. Compile heart games are pretty niche to begin with outside of the Neptunia fandom. Nep has "mainstream" appeal to the worst kind of normie anime fans. Said fans have only played the rebirth games because they were always given out on pc for dirt cheap so it's not like they can even really be considered fans of the entire series. They just like to shitpost about Nep on twitter and discord. You know, the people that unirioncally play with the dub and say it's better than the original jp audio.

That said, Neptunia as a series is mostly a parody and celebration of videogames. They are mostly all super budget games but there's tons of fun videogame / company references that are nice. I'm glad that touhou is finally getting a rep since I like Tsunako's art and character designs.
