Finished Umineko yesterday, i really liked it but at certain points it feels like the charachters kill more because the plot needs them to than anything else, f.e. the entirety of the chapter 7 tea party feels forced, Eva grabbing the gun just because she gets 2.5 tons instead of 5 seems out of charachter even for her, also Bern shows that the same event would happen in Lion's fragment but that's almost impossible because there's no one to give them guns or tell them about the bomb, they would have to go all the way to Kinzo's study and grab his guns while Kinzo is still alive and looking at them, as if he wouldn't be able to settle the gold's argument just by imposing himself over the siblings.

I liked the ending, i was finally given a scene where krauss is not potrayed as a spineless idiot and actually punches someone without needing the enemy to trip loser flags, for the rest it was pretty much the final pillow needed to protect you from the crash that is accepting the fact that no one can be saved, i must say a lot of the twists i kind of expected beforehand but part of me didn't want to accept them because i'm not really fond of the idea of all of the children falling in love with their androgynous uncle, the incest rape was also a thought i wanted to keep repressed ever since chapter 2.

Oh yeah i had to drag myself through most of ange's scenes, chapter 4 alternates between really exciting and really boring while also flanderizing Rosa's charachter from still feeling some regret for her actions to straight up not caring at all for Maria.
Some charachters do feel more developed than others, like i already said krauss never got his proper "fight scene" where he showed his good traits and on the other hand Hideyoshi is pretty much a saint, almost nothing bad about him is uncovered aside some mentions of shady busines practices.

Do consider that all of rosa's scenes in ep 4 were portrayed in maria's eyes and believe or not maria is an incredibly sharp kid with high EQ (that's why she was able to imagine an entire world of witches and magic on her own). She may have chosen to distill the events into relevant bits that make sense to her, omitting some others. Rosa's rage and mean faces terrified her so she decided to went into great details with those. So what's the whole point of showing maria and rosa's cycle of hatred and abuse? It's twofold. First we are shown, explicitly, the face the world "sees" the two of them: a lonely, fatherless kid chained with a stressed and abusive mother. They only pick up pieces that reinforce their mental model of those two. They don't know rosa is neck up in the debt she was scammed into/ her status as used goods in a chauvinistic society of japan that severely affected her romantic life/ her confusion and despair at maria having an abnormal childhood which mended her into an awkward kid seeking solace in make-believe stories. It's apparent in the way the siblings subtly insulting her whenever they can.

So, maria, being the subject of the abuse, still managed to build the model of her "good" mother being influenced by the "bad witch". It shows her trust in her fist-itchy mother. Make no mistake, the way she sees events regarding her mother is still nearly identical to that of the world since that's the only way her 9-year old brain is capable of deducing. However, in spite of the gloomy picture painted before her, maria CHOSE to sieve out the bad things and retain only her loving mother image. You may call it the ultimate cope- while it's true, it's the way maria looked at her mother and appreciate her love. The world can't see it without love.

Let me break it down for you to understand.

1) In order for you to enjoy a story, you have to suspense your belief that all fictions are fake and pulled out of authors' asses, right?

2) So you have that shared but hidden agreement. Now, any attempt, intentional or unintentional, by the writer to break the fourth wall and result in the perceived awareness that what you are experiencing is in fact fiction, is tantamount to breaking that agreement, thus losing the trust both parties have worked so hard to built up.
3) In umineko case, it is just that. By having tohya as author self-insert and taking the spotlight instead of just throwing meaningful observations here and there, it immediately shakes the ground on which said agreement stood on. Adorned by sappy details such as sayo's tragedies or battler's road to recovery, the story distracted that readers, making them blind the incredible insult done to them. You can't really pretend multiple timelines happened if the author explicitly deny that conclusion.

I wonder how Virgilius would have turned out to be?

This. Ever since the first meta scene (and especially after the Knox's decalogue was first introduced) I thought the end will result in the ultimate showdown involving complex analysis of what we've seen so far, involving thorough break down and tearing the guts of its entirety for the sake of recreating the real picture of events that is too bizarre to figure out yourself. A real trick ending couldn't have existed along with E7+E7TP, but it definitely would have been more gritty and soul-crushing than what the entirety of EP7 and the Tea Party were all about.

I think the players and forces in umineko interact with each other based on how compatible they are. Dlanor represents the rules of mystery fiction, so she would be close to erika since the latter is a mystery detective. Dlanor may be disgusted by Erika's antics but also respect her for making the most out of the Knox's rules. Bernkastel reflects the mental state of battler and ange at a given point in the story. At first, battler and ange were still hopeful and motivated to beat beato in order to break free of the loop, thats why bern allied with them out of affinity. Later on, ange's once optimistic outlooks gradually deteriorated and so did their relationship with bern. Ep 7 is the culmination of that hopelessness inside ange. Ep 8 is ange finding a new outlook in life and doesn't give a shit if a miracle happened, thus "beating" Bern.

Glad that you ask. If you think about it, each Chiru arc is an answer to its corresponding question arc.

EP5 is an answer to EP1. The episode is all about Natsuhi. It explains the mystery of Kinzo's disappearance by revealing straight away that Kinzo was an illusion the whole time. Eva acts unnaturally in both episodes despite acting "concerned" when the situation calls for it. She sets up the receipt on the door in both episodes. She debates the mysteries with the detective (Battler in EP1 and Erika in EP5) in a dire situation where it's totally unappropiate. The way the "corpses" disappear from the guest house by hiding away in the gold room also corresponds with what Eva and Hideyoshi believed happened with the "victims" in EP1.

EP6 is an answer to EP2. It's all about Shannon and Kanon and how they can't love, and practically spells out the explanation for their strange interactions with Beatrice. The resolution of the mystery (that it was all a prank set up by the family) also hints at the excuse used by Yasu to make accomplices out of anyone in the past games, regardless of their moral compass.

EP7 is mostly an answer to EP3. It explains the number written on the door. It explains in detail who Ronove and Virgilia represent, explains the whole deal with Kuwadorian and hints at the solutions of some of the past games. In the Tea Party, while arguing about the gold, Eva accidentally kills Natsuhi and panicks, deciding to blow up the island to cover her crime. This is exactly what happens in EP3 between her and Rosa, and the motive for her actions after that point. In the same Tea Party, Rudolf and Kyrie suggest that Battler will prove fatal to them if he ever finds out they were the culprits, and are willing to murder him if he isn't fully convinced of their story. This hints at Rosa's motives for playing around with the survivors in EP2 instead of straight up killing them all with her gun. She didn't want to shoot anyone in front of Maria or do anything suspicious, because that could prove fatal to her if Maria ever connects the dots years later and calls the police.

EP8 is obviously an answer to EP4, focusing completely on Ange and her future life. It finally explains Battler's birth, which was a big deal in EP4. And the trick ending explains what the fuck happened to Ange in EP4, including the full extent of Okonogi's plan. It also closes the Witch Hunt plotline, something that was introduced in EP4 too.

There is also Sakutaro, who is a big deal in both EP4 and EP8. It might not seem to be the case, since he's barely around in EP8, but Ange's story literally ends with her becoming a writer and making Sakutaro into a successful novel series, teaching children about Maria's philosophy and coping mechanisms. This isn't only Ange's life work, but also an answer to HIGURASHI's main villain. She tried to make her grandfather eternal through forceful methods and failed. Both she and Hifumi ended up being erased from the records in most worlds and became a footnote in Irie's article in Matsuribayashi. Meanwhile, Ange went about it with love and succeeded in turning Maria into a god. She made her fantasy world eternal and shared it with millions of children across the world.

This has to be intentional. Ange is kind of a counterpart to Takano in this situation.

With a giantic works like umineko, some dots have to be connected one way or another.
You know what's funny about the whole thing? Since the games were written by a group of people with their own headcanons, any unrealistic detail would be smoothened out with no extra explanation needed.

The incredibly neat way sayo carried out the crimes are unbelievable as well. From changing outfits and accessories in matter of minutes with no one ever quentioning a thing, to the way all the murders were carried out without a gunshot heard or someone just catching her in the act.

Anyway i think most people can deduce what's the purpose of answers arc when they read them. It's just that the main narrative that they ride on are not. that. inteteresting! The main trick that solved all of the games is anticlimatic due to the way they presented it. I want an epic and grand "final battle" that explained all of the tricks and illusions and made them all connected together, not some strangers of characters duking out in nowhere.

Oni is mostly the same aside from changing the timing of the Hanyuu scene to the end of the arc.

Watadamashi is mostly the same, but has various minor changes. Some of them are obvious why in hindsight after seeing Sotsu's answer, but others are actually puzzling (remember the scene scene where Satoko leaves alone with Mion to inject her (off-screen)? In the Gou manga, Rena and Rika go with them.)

Tataridamashi is the same in rough lines, but actually scene by scene it ends up fairly different. For example, although it's still a mix of Tatari and Mina, it includes Tatari and Mina scenes that weren't in the anime while skipping or just not having some of the stuff that was in the anime. Then the conclusion has some big changes in execution too.

Nekodamashi changes the order of some events rather heavily and adds a bunch of stuff that wasn't in the anime (although it also misses some content that was in the anime). It gets to the gun cliffhanger and then goes beyond it, showing what looks like a different aftermatch from the anime's. Although now we're back in the tweaked Satokowashi for months with Meguri and who knows when we'll get back to that.
