Instead of being a footnote, Ciel's guilt is greatly emphasized and brought to the forefront. Her struggle to move on from her past is one of the major themes of the entire route. Shiki steps in and treats her as an actual person and teaches her to finally be happy. This is one of the reasons why the romance is better because the reason for Ciel to fall for Shiki is much clearer and more concrete. Noel serves a foil to all of this. She's a reminder of Ciel's past and her guilt. That's why the faceoff at the end of the route also works on a thematic level. Ciel defeating Noel isn't merely a physical confrontation. It's also a triumph mentally and represents her moving forward as a person. Hopefully, claiming the action is better is pretty self-evident. There's the improved production values, but also the script itself is way simply better. Actions are described in much more detail and all the battles had a strong sense of tension that the original mostly lacked in the near side.

Arc doesn't even imply he's dead, just...missing. The Roa/Nero conversation now mentions he returned to the Wandering Sea so he's probably stuck there. Nero was removed primarily because Nasu initially didn't even want to include him in Tsuki's story, preferring if he simply got teased and was a main antagonist in a later story.

Shiki is just a simple man. After killing Arcueid in Ciel's route, he's mentally dead inside. This is also another thing I thought the remake handled better. If you recall, there's two options after killing Arc where Shiki either thinks to himself it's all just a dream or accepts it as reality. In the original, this choice only has minor differences and isn't consequential. However in the remake, this is a major turning point. In Ciel's route in the remake, Shiki, on the spot, accepts the reality that he killed Arcueid and is completely devastated. This is a man that enjoys the simple, everyday life more than anyone else because of his near-death experience in the past. With that one action, Shiki is 100% convinced he is a monster that doesn't even deserve to live. This leads him to stumble into the park where he essentially just rots away. When Ciel finds him and helps him, Shiki says that she "saved him". This is no exaggeration. Ciel's whimsical act of kindness in that moment did save his own life. He would have died of hypothermia in the park had she not arrived.

Despite this event being minor to Ciel, it leaves a major impact on Shiki as something he would never forget. As Shiki learns more about Ciel and her suffering, he never stops feeling indebted to her. This is one of his major motivations for helping Ciel throughout the route. Mario, Noel, etc. all say terrible things about Ciel and call her a monster and such but Shiki never lines up with such thinking of course. To him, Ciel is the senpai that saved him exactly when he needed it the most. Does it matter that Ciel can fight Vlov and all sorts of crazy monsters? No, that shit is just cool. As Shiki tries to repay the debt he feels he owes to Ciel, he of course begins to fall for her and she does for him as well. It's very sweet. Ciel teaches Shiki to atone for his sins while Shiki teaches Ciel to forgive herself.

In Ciel's route, Arcueid is the unfortunate loser. Her reasons for falling for Shiki are the same as they are in her own route, but Shiki himself has very different motivations and thus it ends differently. For Arc, she experiences strong emotions and all sorts of new things for the first time ever thanks to Shiki. So it is natural she falls for him. However, Shiki, despite being nice to Arc, is pretty clearly more interested in Ciel overall. Seeing Ciel slowly take Shiki away naturally triggers her jealously and emotional instability. Basically all of Arc's antagonistic actions in the route are rooted in love and jealousy. It's not too different from the original in that regard, but Nasu made the confrontation more epic and grand (as you would expect).

Roa is kind of interesting. In Ciel's true route, he sort of "awakens" as a real personality for the first time. Previously, he wasn't much more than some impulse constantly chasing eternity. He had some bit of character in Arc's route, but much of it was pre-occupied with his mistaken belief about the mystic eyes he gained. In the end of Ciel, Roa does some long overdue self-reflection about why he's constantly reviving and living forever. As the story points out, it was originally a pure, although delusional, desire to learn everything. However when he gazes and sees Arcueid, his desire is twisted and chasing after Arc becomes his real motivation. This is a bit of speculation on my part but in Ciel's true end, Roa is watching Arc completely lose it and go crazy like he's never seen before. And none of that is a reaction to him. Arc doesn't give a single fuck about Roa beyond just killing him. Her dramatic change is caused entirely by Shiki. At one point, Shiki basically tells Roa that Arcueid never once really payed attention to him or who he really was. After that point, Roa essentially accepts that Shiki was right. His eternal chase after Arc was futile and meaningless. One random teenager did more in one day to draw her attention than hundreds of years of reincarnation. That's why he helps Shiki at the end. It's just one final way to "get back" at Arc before he accepts his final fate.

Excluding being overall more written, there are some changes to the common route like the new obligatory Ciel meeting, but the only change to that was the conditions, not the contents. You have to deliberately see every Ciel scene in order for her to appear if Shiki denies it (and if so he's railroaded into acknowledging the deed anyways). Also, even if Shiki chooses not to believe it, he collapses in the same park, the only difference is that Akiha finds him instead of Ciel. Shiki just views it that way because (obviously) he would have no way to foresee Akiha finding him. In the original, going home with her is still essential to access Ciel's route, and if anything, there's an argument to be made that it has less impact on Shiki in the remake because after going to her home in the original, you're locked into Ciel's route, but in the remake the route is determined by whether he chooses to fight Vlov with Arcueid or not, which when you think about it is a pretty trivial thing on its own, and the consequences of that choice demonstrate a clinical perspective on human nature (nothing new for Nasu though).

Like, Fate beginning in Rin's perspective, because it's obviously a comfort zone thing to begin narrating from a female PoV. The fact that everything in KnK reads like a teenager's self-insert fantasy. The fact that the sexiest character in Fate is Kirei. The entirety of HF couldn't have come from a male writer, and neither could have any of the sex scenes across the franchise--they're terrible in a way that could only come from somebody that doesn't watch/read porn and never thought of their body as anything other than ugly and inconvenient until a certain artist decided he wanted to put his dick in it. Akiha and Azaka's relationships with their brothers; Mana and Rin's relationships with their fathers; BB's emotional relationships with their own bodies. All of these have a distinctly personal and confessional aspect to them, which is why they keep coming back.

Not to mention the first male protagonist and perspective character that Nasu ever wrote was just an existing female character but genderbent, and the most principle change in their personality that accompanied this genderbending was a frequent uncontrollable desire to indiscriminately rape those around him--which isn't just a "I don't know how men work" thing. That men are uncontrollable animals that can't stop themselves is something young japanese women, especially in traditional rural communities, are taught as a way to scare them away from spending time alone with guys behind closed doors. This trope gets referenced a lot in all sorts of media, including porn. From the male perspective it's "it can't be helped, putting yourself in this situation was obviously meant to be intentionally provocative so I'll respond in kind", which is obviously culturally incompatible with our perspective but it is what it is--the agency of the male in question is preserved, they're making a conscious choice and acting on it in response to a perceived invitation coded in a breach of dated norms of social propriety. From the female perspective instead it's an unironic belief in the literal truth of the trope; eg. that a normal, sane man will just lose his mind and become a mindless rape animal. Shiki in Tsukihime is written very explicitly as the latter.

I can't really overstate this one. Tsukihime is written with the belief that an old wives tale about men having literally uncontrollable rape urges as a normal part of puberty, a tale told to young girls to scare them away from being flirty with teenage boys, is 100% true. It's easy to dismiss this as just bad writing because the cultural context is lost in translation, but Nasu clearly actually believed it, which isn't something that's possible if they were actually a man.

Finally Arcueid was explicitly written and designed based on an actual french model that Takeuchi had some kind of crush on. It's pretty common in the fandom community to create 'gift' content in which you deliberately pander to a specific friend or colleague, which is exactly what Arcueid is, and exactly why her romance with Tohno Shiki is written as a ditzy foreigner girl being a tourist in Japan and having a fling with a local. Also why despite being written like Ryougi Shiki genderbent, Tohno Shiki is designed to look like Mikiya, who in turn is made to resemble Takeuchi. That their love-at-first-sight moment is Shiki cutting Arc into 30-some pieces was obviously meant to troll Takeuchi. I would assume that by this point they had been together long enough that this sort of thing would pass for couples humour rather than anything threatening.

Saber is a little different. While there are obviously aspects of both her character and her romance with Shirou that are borrowed from Arc (the date), Shirou and Saber both seem to be mostly original characters. Considering that Fate had to be rewritten explicitly with marketability and mass-appeal in mind, Saber is probably made to be more or less a marketable heroine rather than an object of personal gratification for either creator(and if you've read the Fate route, her lack of character development really stands out), and Shirou's role as a protagonist becomes abundantly clear when you've read through all 3 routes. He's less of a personal engagement and more or less Nasu's answer to the problem of the generic protagonist. That Shirou isn't supposed to be an appealing subject of self-insert fantasy is something that's frequently lost on readers.

Depends on how heavy Nasu cares about spoiler characters being added. If he cares immensely, you won't even see Satsuki. Aoko is already known to be a mysterious mage even in the prologue of TsukiR, so there's not much to spoil with her. Fate wasn't really all-in on the romance compared to Tsukihime. While Shirou spends a lot of the time with the heroines, he's doing so because he's in a life-or-death situation which isn't immediately dispatched by the MEoDP. It's only very late into the story where he does stuff like forcing Saber to go on a date or Rin dragging him out to the city. You could very easily equate it to just him getting the girl in the end after having gotten to know her and like her rather than a story truly centered around them. Or of course there's Heaven's Feel where he's rawdogging Sakura every night.
Akiha in that image is in a route where there's very little combat, it's entirely the two characters interacting with each other, with Akiha not so subtly shoving herself into every aspect of Shiki's life so she can spend more time with him, as well as other reveals about their family. Nothing like that is in Fate.

It’s pretty obvious that Shirou is in love with Saber the first time he sees her. He also acts awkward around her and it’s clear that he has a crush on her. Saber only starts liking Shirou once he treats her like a woman over a king for the first time in her life and as they train together and get closer together. Shirou already had a crush on Tohsaka and he even loves her more once her Miss perfect idol mask is shattered and he gets to know the regular Rin. Rin already had a small crush on Shirou due to seeing the high jump but it develops more as they talk to each other and Rin becomes less lonely as she has someone to talk to about magic with. They have good chemistry and it’s a natural romance. Shirou was denying his feelings of love to Sakura after spending so much time with her due to him trying to treat her as family and not wanting to romance his friend’s sister. I don’t really have to explain that Sakura had a deep crush on Shirou as he was her only salvation in her life of torture. Fate has a lot going on so sometimes the romance is put to the side but the writing and time with the characters makes it a good romance story.
