Holy fuck have I been busy today. Lots of additions to already-posted material, and in the process of searching for more I've found a few tags and filenames that were inaccurate. They have (mostly) been fixed, and there is some kind of standard now. Also, everything's on Mediafire so the folks who didn't go through the trouble of finding the GO!GO!7188 when I mentioned it, here it is - and I feel the need to hype them in particular again. Very creative, catchy songs written and played with large amounts of subtle skill.

Didn't want to risk being too long-winded again again, but having commandeered this thread I'm welcoming instrumental, hard-to-understand, poppy, whatever. As long as it's music you love (and which is Japanese. Don't wanna get deleted for being off-topic.) go ahead and post some!

Tomorrow I'm gonna be continuing the hunt for more, starting with No Regret Life. Also placing a request for Sambomaster in place of a good friend of mine, because if one of you guys can post it before I wake up then it saves me a lot of trouble looking for it.

For the number of CDs they have, there's a surprising (and rather disappointing) number of reused tracks. It's a shame, really.

And now, for something completely different! Let's celebrate those lifted barriers. People who hate noise, I don't feel like telling you why this isn't, so you can move right along. Ruins is a drum-and-bass duo that makes you stare awkwardly before half-smiling and calling it "Interesting", but not for politeness. Their music is complex and wild, but not without form, and while it doesn't always sound good (It does most of the time!) it's always really legitimately interesting.

And hey, they made up their own language. Full credit for that.

Cinderella, but Yukiko Okada. An album concerning life's joys and trials through the eyes of the previous century's brightest young mind. Artistic masterpieces are often lost in the sands of history, and in one sense it is unsurprising that this work has yet to release "classic" status in the context of mass media, but the typicality of it all doesn't make the tale any less tragic. All self-described lovers of music owe it to themselves to hear this, as it is the barometer by which the rest of the medium should be evaluated:

1. Sayonara Natsuyasumi (さよなら・夏休み)
2. Little Princess (リトル プリンセス)
3. Kare wa Hurricane (彼はハリケーン)
4. Oka no Ue no Highschool (丘の上のハイスクール)
5. Shiokaze no Love Letter (潮風のラブ・レター)
6. Kaze no Naka no Cafe-terrace (風の中のカフェテラス
7. Akogare (憧れ)

Sambomaster! These guys are pretty popular so they weren't too hard to find, though I'm keeping it to full-length albums. Haven't actually gotten a chance to listen to much of their stuff yet, but if what I have heard is any indication they take pop-rock and make it their own thing. Very unique vocals riding the line between yelling and singing about the values of youth (In the hotblooded way, not the corny way) complement wild drums, groovy bass, and twangy guitar to pull you into an energetic album that doesn't drop the pace. Not as out-there as some of the stuff I've posted, but really fun.

I'd like to recommend Nujabes. He worked on the Samurai Champloo soundtrack, but his own albums are fantastic. This one does have English in it, and it has some rap, but there are some beautiful instrumental tracks too.

If I didn't know better, I'd think this thread was unpopular.

So I'm dropping the kanji standard for The Pillows because they have 35 releases, and almost all of the song titles are in English anyways. While those are uploading (i.e. all fucking day), I'm gonna be exploring some of the stuff that's already there.

Starting with As Meias, with their self-titled EP. Alphabetical order because I'm uncreative. Very chill post-rock (I think) which I'm way too tired to find words for right now. It's only a half hour long, though, so you can spare at least that much to give them a listen.

I always hated when bands use a plural word without the The, because it throws me off and I'm never sure what to call them. Boredoms is one such band.

Bizarre noise rock, but not like "let's just make a bunch of static with a guitar" noise. They play around a lot with trumpets, synthesizers, cowbells, megaphones with different styles of singing, and fuck I don't even know what else. This could actually pass for avant-garde music. I have more by them, but this is the only one I've uploaded so far.

More and more often, I find myself at a loss for how to describe these albums without resorting to wikipedia. In a way, saying that Buffalo Daughter's "I" defies description describes it fairly well. In another way, I'm just filling space with pointless musings.

In a word...Experimental?

The question mark is essential to this description, by the way.

I'm pretty sure this was posted in a previous music thread, but that hasn't stopped me yet.

Chihei Hatakeyama, besides having a name that's moderately difficult to type, puts forth an incredibly relaxing ambient album with Minima Moralia. This is the sort of thing I would listen to if I had trouble sleeping. Again, words aren't doing it justice. I'd stop trying, but habits are hard to break.

Isn't Damo Suzuki an environmentalist, poet, and folklore translator? Or is that just a really common name?

Don't let the four tracks fool you, this is a full-length live album. This immediately turned off all the people who don't like 24-minute songs. I'm actually not sure why I have it, I don't think I've listened to it even once. Crazy experimental jazz fusion odyssey or something like that. Not-quite-instrumental post-rock (question mark?) that manages to simultaneously be atmospheric and fast-paced. Heaven In Her Arms makes me wonder if all of Japan just has horrible naming sense. Really, now.

They also, however, are the first thing resembling screamo that I've not absolutely hated. Heavy, but not generic. Double-bass, but classy. Screaming, yes, but we can shove that under the rug and talk about how well they establish mood and atmosphere throughout the album. It's hard defending screamo, but it can be done decently well.

heprcam is something I stumbled across during the process of the last thread. If anyone listened to that Nujabes album that was posted, this is something he worked in - so far only one album released by them, with the rest of their work on compilation albums here and there. Very chill electronica, soft vocals, and lots of samples from both organic and inorganic sounds make for an interesting but relaxing experience.

Very fast-paced, heavy yet distinctly post-rock sound, instrumental yet interesting, original songwriting on all instruments involved. These guys are fantastic and you owe it to yourself to listen to them.

Nervous Light of Sunday is not the band you think it is. I promise.

What at first sounds like yet another shitty screamo band actually fills its songs with varied styles, complex riffs and melodies, math rock influences, and general face-rocking. Don't give up on these guys before you listen closely to at least one full song.

Thanks for commenting. Even if you can't contribute music, a recommendation or even just a little shout out to stuff you've liked feels just as good as googling "super butter dog funkasy" and finding my account as the first hit. That applies to everyone, now, you got that?

Following post-rock with power metal, it's everyone's (read: my) favorite Touhou band, Demetori! They do everything they can to make metal melodic, though, and while it is unmistakably power metal there are occasional "Yes, we can write music, just so you know." songs thrown in. In fact, all but one track on Sinen are different musical styles (and the one repeat is a compilation effort with UI-70), all showing off his incredible guitar work and giving equal value to his extremely groovy bassist and drummer who I am convinced is a cyborg. This is one of those bands that gets me to drop what I'm doing and air-guitar.

If you like them, this is another one you should look into. Interestingly enough, Songs, Ideas We Forgot has about 500 downloads to the others' 4 or 5.

I keep running across bands that I need to upload something for. Ugh.

This is getting by on a preeeeetty stretched technicality, but fuck it we don't live here. Princess Tutu had one of the single most amazing soundtracks of any anime I have ever watched. Nearly four hours of classical orchestral pieces from composers around the world fill its soundtrack, and even this doesn't include every track that appeared throughout the series - more an anime ballet than a ballet anime, this is the only time I am going to pimp a cartoon to you people. Even if you don't watch it, download these albums.

Hey, glad to hear it.

I was debating doing Touhou bands since it'd be a lot more one-album posts, then realized that I can post more than one band at a time. Therefore, here's the rest of the Touhou I have uploaded.

Original game soundtracks are available upon request!

Demetori - Sinen (One file reup): http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?kjggnwoygwz
蟲と東方と毒殺ミルク (Compilation album of three artists whose names escape me. Lots of noise, breakbeat, and otherwise not-for-everyone things but quite awesome.): http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?tjut2yi0njz
趣味工房にんじんわいん - ROCKGIRL 東方岩少女 ARRANGE SOUNDTRACK (EoSD chiptune soundtrack. Excellently done.): http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?5zyqigzyj5d

k-waves LAB (Accordions, flutes, ukuleles, balalaika, and all manner of other unorthodox instruments go into lovely compositions in both of these albums.)
幻想郷ポポルカント: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?zntynmmmymy
風萃めのシャルモ: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?ztg2m1zmite

Forest306 - 東方阿漕集 (Acoustic guitar, harmonica. Simple yet beautiful remixes.): http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?zyjtkmlzvyj
Everfades - Reverie (Pianist from http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm4579486 and I swear if one of you has more by him and isn't uploading it I will hunt you down): http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?mvylnziyjjj

Alstroemeria Records (Electronica of varying styles. Did that Bad Apple!! song that's all the rage these days, which is on Lovelight if that's all you're looking here for.)
Dolls: http://www.mediafire.com/?5y5gljktitl
Lovelight: http://www.mediafire.com/?mdmu5dgdd1w

Hoo man. Okay. So, with today's megapost out of the way, I've got a report of one of the Teshima Aoi albums having a corrupt fourth track - namely, ゲド戦記歌集. If you could all give the .zip a try, just to make sure I don't need to reupload it, I'd appreciate it.

Meanwhile, I'm out of pre-uploaded material. From here, I can post a few English bands that I particularly enjoy in the hopes that the tidal wave of Japanese music will keep the topic from getting deleted for it, or I can look through the threads for things I want more of, things other people have recommended, and requests (which of course will come first. Doubly so if they're requests for things I want more of.) You guys can choose my next task, I have to fill out the individual sampling mp3s and frankly I think I've earned a little break.

Since I don't like posting without contributing though, here's the only U.N. Owen remix I particularly like and don't just put up with because it's on a good album.

Closing up for the night with another one of my personal favorites, which...I'm pretty sure everyone who's really interested in this one already has it, but it occurred to me to upload it, so.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann caused a huge wave when it hit, with a budget roughly ten times the size of your average anime and a story as over-the-top as its style. While there was very little substance to it, people started arguing philosophies, deeper meanings, and all sorts of other crazy shit revolving around its simple message: Humanity's greatest ally is its undying hope and will. The show, aside from having some of the coolest action sequences in anime, had a genuinely inspiring tone and an extremely well-made, varied soundtrack.

To anyone who hasn't had the pleasure of listening to this, it brings me great pride to know that I'm helping it spread.

All right, since no one voted on the direction, I'm gonna make a mix of it. Having looked through the two threads and found Youtube links for what I could, I'm gonna be trying to find the following along with more from some of the bands I only have one album of with a peppering of particularly enjoyable English bands.

Checked out Monkey Majik, actually kind of diggin' them. If they can keep it up for a full album, sure.
I might know someone with ESP.Ra.De. albums, I'll see what I can do about those.
anNina is actually pretty nice, but I'm seeing a lot of comments about how they've only released a few singles. Might find more, might not.
I actually have a ROUND TABLE album, because Gunbuster and Diebuster are awesome. I'll upload that later.
Kalafina was one of the very few things I've been able to check out so far, and I am definitely liking it. If they have more, I'll be looking for it.
Diggin' Nujabes.
Gonna find some Spitz 'cause someone requested it, though I might need to grow into them.
A friend showed me PE'Z last night. Discography is on the way.
The Back Horn...wildly fluctuated between good and bad. I dunno if I can get into them.

And since I just hate to bump without an update, the first English band post is on the way.

Bumping with content etc. The first of the English bands I'll be posting, and I do hope that none of you irredeemable weeaboos shun it just because of that. Metric explores songwriting styles constantly - no two albums sound quite the same, and all of them are as musically interesting and beautiful as the last. I'm actually going to see these guys live in about a week, and I haven't been this excited for a live show since Polysics came around.

As promised, that one ROUND TABLE album. I don't like it enough to go look for more, but I already had it, so. Eh.

anNina put me on one hell of a hunt, let me fucking tell you. I hope you guys are happy for this.

Okay, so. anNina, as it turns out, was born when vocalist Annabel met composer inazawa. They've only got out one EP and a couple singles.

But! Annabel has a solo project, and worked with another group to create binaria, who has some equally awesome releases, but again - just the two EPs and a couple singles. Annabel and binaria then made the compilation single "Project ABC" with Cor Leonis, whose sole member is binaria's composer, yanaginagi. I think. Maybe? Lots I couldn't find, but not for lack of effort. Christ.

Meanwhile inazawa is behind Studio Campanella, which deserves its own exploration. I have no idea where I stand with collection or how to sort them, but I'm gonna throw all of what I've found from these vaguely related bands together so I don't have a string of one-EP posts again.

After that, I had to think for a second about which one would be easiest to find. I've put in my time already.

Nujabes! Rap, yes, but disliking rap universally is immature and this really is good stuff. A mix of hip-hop and jazz influences, and I'll stop there before I feel waaaay too white for this stuff. Expect some MINMI, I've been meaning to get more by her for a while.

Does anyone have the album containing the OP song for the Bokurano anime? I remember watching the opening on nicovideo once, deliciously mellow music. I liked the vocalist's voice.

Well... it's very hard to judge this album because I haven't heard to other albums/music from "that era" for god knows how long already.

But it definitely reminds me of asian songs from that period.
Sweet lovely light vocal pop songs. I'm thinking of that Ah! My Goddess OVA OP song now. ;_;

MINMI...turned out to not really be my style, so much. Some of her stuff is pretty good, but a lot of it is...Well. Not my style.

This however doesn't mean that I didn't go and upload it anyways. The whole point of this is sharing music that you might like. From the bits and pieces I had the chance to sample, imagine was my favorite album, though I could have just had bad luck with the songs that got picked. Another contributor to Samurai Champloo, with 四季ノ唄 as the ending theme.

Quick one this time - I apparently lost a Nujabes album in the huge fucking pile of .rars that I've accumulated in my music folder. This one's a compilation album of a lot of really good artists which I guess he's produced for or something! Very much worth listening to if you like his style, and in fact I'd say it's worth it even if you don't particularly like it, if only because you might be inspired to check out any one of the 14 artists that appear and are credited.

Kalafina's got the one album. FictionJunction, one of Yuki Kajiura's solo projects, has also been posted and their only other album was a remix EP which frankly I'm not too interested in. What else then, but Kajiura's other works?

Kajiura, much like Annabel, is one person who did a whole bunch of collaborations and hunting down collective works like this is beginning to piss me off. Is this what I get for being a Mike Patton fan? Kajiura composes and produces, as well as offering piano/keyboard skills for many songs. Lots of violin solos, too. You've almost certainly heard a fair bit of her stuff already.

80s rock and roll, but in Japanese. Found it when I was watching some variety show guy do a parody of the singer. Their stuff from the mid 90s and up is pretty bleh though.

Okay, so.

Today, I'm going to be sorting through my Akiko Shikata for you guys because I don't think I can really justify putting it off any longer. However, this means going through over 50 albums - nearly twice as many as the Pillows discography - to make sure nothing is corrupt and everything is tagged correctly. It also means getting rid of the crap that I don't want, because a good amount of them are still in .rars.

I'm gonna take a break mid-day to work on getting pe'zmoku, which I forgot to check out earlier and is technically part of the PE'Z post so for the sake of completion, but aside from that all efforts are going into Shikata.

God help me.

Godspeed, Anon. Godspeed.
I might upload all of Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra to help you out in the coming days. Even though I don't think they're as jaw-droppingly awesome as some bands listed here, they're Japanese and decent. For anyone not familiar, imagine The Pillows crossed with Reel Big Fish... sort of. I don't know how to word it any better right now.
