Yes, many Japanese people have big noses but it's not the most common type. I'm also simplifying a lot and using some anachronistic and descriptive terms, because this is simpler and avoids controversy.

The first group is the Wide Japonic type, a type descended from the speakers of proto-Japonic who entered Japan at an ancient time. This is the most common type in the Ryukyu islands, though they have also evolved so the Ryukyu variant of Wide Japonic is not the same as other parts of Japan. In JAV, this type is statistically overrepresented, though not the most common. Many of your beloved JAV idols probably are this type, though. It's unknown if the proto-Japonic settlers looked like this, but near certainly more like this than any other type.

The second is the Narrow Japonic type. This is the most common type in Japan overall as a simplification, and is the mix of Wide Japonic and new settlers (especially Javanese, note V). This was the first elite of Japan. Similar to Wide Japonic but specifically with Javanese mix added, over the already ancient Austronesian mix of Wide Japonic (and instead of continued western mix of Ryukyu islanders). As a result, less "flat" features.

Third is one of the "big nose" types. This is the Narrow Japanese type. How this type originated, it's not clear but a mix of Narrow Japonic and some new settlers, or perhaps inbreeding within a smaller group of Narrow Japonic, or both. This is the elite of Japan through most of history, and if you want to say to this day. Not all Narrow Japanese have big noses or big ears, but they're common in this type. This is the stereotypical Japanese. Many JAV idols are this type too, however statistically more represented in mainstream films. JAV idols of this type used to be more popular but now, not as much.

Fourth is the High Japanese type. This probably is the type you're thinking of when you think of big noses in Japan. This type's origin is mix of Narrow Japanese with Ainu and other groups of pre-Japonic remainders, as well as new settlers from continental Asia. My preferred hypothesis is that the new continental component was also speakers of a Japonic language, but this isn't known. This is also the elite of Japan, as seen how the royal family is this type, but it's not the most common type in the elite.

Fifth is the Wide Japanese type. This is not one type with distinct features, a mix of the previous groups. Any type characteristics appear almost at random, but also this type may emerge as its own with some unique characteristics. Among young JAV idols, by far most common type if you want to consider it a type.

When you watch JAV, you don't think about the type she looks like unless you're autistic.
