The more engrossed I'm trying to dodge the bullets, the more curious the people become around me. I have never been caught playing a VN, because I can take it easy with the reading.

A long time ago my stepmom walked in while I was fighting Marisa in IN.

She said it looked really pretty and then left. This is unusual because she's usually of the opinion that "video games are the devil" more or less.

My brother used to sit down and watch me play Touhou or whatever shooter I was at sometimes. He'd do what everybody else in this thread described, pretty much "oh man that looks hard" and "how are you able to focus on all those bullets"?

I rarely ever play VNs so I've never had that experience.

I made a mistake commenting on one of my friends videos on youtube, which obviously led to him and my other friends looking at mine which is full of VN shit.

I got some surprising reactions, they watched the Marimo one and thought it was awesome and wanted to know what the fuck happened. I explained EX/UL and Alternative and they all wanna try playing them when they get translated. Some of these people are the "Let's party all night long and get some bitches" type of people too, so I was quite surprised.

I guess it all depends on what they find you reading.

I don't partake in /jp/ related hobbies in public.

I have no problems with most japanese games, even when I'm playing ultra-weeaboo games like Disgaea or Persona. But I'm still ashamed of playing VNs or watching anime when the family is around.

For VNs: I rarely get caught, if it's on an SFW scene, the I just hide the words and just leave the picture, people will just think I just have my screensaver on.
For Touhou: I don't care, I once played it at school and people don't notice or care. Only guy called it weird though.

A week ago, she was playing Wanko. Today, I saw her playing FS/N and photoshopping a Touhou image (didn't get to see much, I think it was Mima). All of this happens in the middle of the class while the professor is talking.

It's relevant to this thread because I don't know how to react to this. Obviously, being who I am, I don't speak to her so yeah.

For Touhou, I pause it and talk to her. She doesn't say anything about it.

My mom pretty much accepts all my hobbies. No one else sees what I do, so they don't care really. Except for that one time when I decided to play Touhou in class. Like 10 people asked for it (they all saw that one video on youtube named "hardest video game ever" or something from Mushihimesama, so they all wanted to try a shmup like that). I think they all gave up on easy modo after a few tries.

I was regularly caught playing 2D side scroll shooters on my Saturn as a kid though. Ikaruga, Radiant Silvergun, Strikers 1945 I & II, Silhouette Mirage, Batsugun, Battle Garegga, Blast Wind, Graduis (FUCK YOU), Gunbird, KAITEI DAISENSOU (Metal Slug in a submarine), Sengoku Blade (delicious Koyori), Thunderforce, Hyperduel, Steam Hearts (shoot em up + hentai) etc.

Thank God I still have them all and play them regularly. Touhou is my new love for Shoot em ups for now.

Occasionally I play Perfect Cherry Blossom on a netbook during my breaks in between classes in the student lounge. Used to have a regular laptop with all but the fighting games, but the screen fucked up. Most of the time, reactions tend to fall into either: "That's a lot of bullets," "He's gonna die...wait for it...", and "Holy crap, you're good." At home, my younger brother occasionally starts up a game on Hard or Lunatic, rarely getting past stage 3 on either, and my older brother is indifferent.

My wife and youngest sister both sit and watch. My older sisters usually play with stuff in my room while I'm distracted by such things.

In a similar vein, I play Battle Moon Wars on a laptop in the student lounge. I usually leave animations on for the cooler looking attacks, and sometimes people stop and watch them play out as they pass by. (Strangely enough, the attack that never fails to get people to stop and watch is Shiki and Ryougi's team attack.)

In my recent 18 month venture into real life, I still played Touhou from time to time. No VNs, as I never played those to begin with.
