specifically bootleg fumo style touhou dolls. the thing I like about crochet is working off the single thread to build up whole structures, don't have to work out cut patterns and I I learn it better I can freestyle put together some complex shapes just from knitting that one thread in the right way.

used youtube to learn the basic stitches; chain, double and treble as well as the modifiers increases and decreases then the ways to start, from a magic circle, a looped chain or a flat chain with reverses. with mixtures of these tecniques you can pretty much do any shape you could imagine. be warned tho, it is very time consuming especially when you're just getting used to it, I probably spent around 40 hours on marisa, though it takes me around 2-4 seconds to do one stitch rn, once you get real good people can belt out stitches in less than a second.
look up crochet for beginners and amigurumi tutorials if you want to get into it.

useful tool for making large, symmetrical shapes.
it can't help you if you're trying to make asymmetrical things, also it only generates shapes for double crochets, if you want to use treble crochets (I like using them for clothes since they make the shape softer)
you have to design the shape a bit stumpy since trebles are higher.

As much as I love the smug face of the original fumo it just isn’t as menacing
Think of what cirno would look like if possessed of Tanya the Evil for inspiration
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CxR10LqCUSk

The thing I like aesthetically about desert guerrillas is the way modern weaponry is juxtaposed with scenery and people who look like they are centuries behind the amish technologically.

The red and white pattern on some turbans might look neat if well placed,
How to knit this or knit something that adds that effect though.

Trick is getting Latin characters or Japanese characters to look like Arabic calligraphy, still be legible and do that with stitches.

the Taliban flag is just a wall of text done in a fancy style where as isis has less text thus a more simple design with the added bonus of a white circle to make it more distinguished.

that being said Cirno cares not for prayers or ideology she is a one girl yukkuri factory and you might become the raw materials if you are a bit too careless desu.

Terrorist Cirno is best girl for war crime fren.
She radiates cold air year-round handy for the warm terrain of most active warzones today.

Yeah going to redraw the whole thing as pure line art so it would be easier to figure out how to translate it into a real item.
Right now Collage is still ok as it’s a work in progress, maybe a dark blue instead of black might work though I think a more militaristic consume would be appropriate.

As for sewing machine when I need to sew leather or something that is an awkward shape I use a sewing awl which largely is the same tactic that a sewing machine bobbin hook works (2 threads tangling with each other)

Those hand healed stitching machines generally lack a bobbin hook so are pretty useless
You might want to have a sewing awl ready, surprisingly handy if you know how to use it

Know

kind of like the idea of a Serbian Chetnik Cirno existing either as a result of the ISIS Cirno being the same individual and subscribing to multiple conflicting ideologies and factions simultaneously or just her Serbian twin being dispatched to remove her.

Subscribing to such a wide range of contrasting and conflicting ideals might be exhausting and psychologically damaging to some people.

Although such a conflict of interest did not stop The Black Gay Jewish Klansmen of ISIS who wanted to establish a white supremacist Islamic caliphate free of Jewish influence wherein homosexuality is outlawed, despite their Jewish faith black ethnicity, homosexuality and non-adherence to Islam so why should it stop anyone else.

You can truly be anything you want to be no matter what you are if you really give it your all even if it is hypocritical and antithetical to your very being

Small question, has anyone here some tips regarding machine embroidery? I currently have access to professional sewing machines but not embroidery machines. Wouldn't it be possible to get an embroidery service to basically do the face and do the rest with my own tools?

are you talking a brick and mortar embroidery service or are you looking for a website.

i would guess it would be expensive doing it online if bought in bulk but if its a company that does it locally they might do it.

the machine to do that costs about as much asa lathe or a pack of fumos at ebay prices so not something out of the question for a small business to get but most would hesitate.

they do like to get their moneys worth if they do so if you tell them you want some samples for a prototype toy they might do it at a a reasonable price but setup fee and calibration is likely to be factored into the cost so its not going o be very cheap unless you are doing it in bulk.

You have the god damn army enforcing this stuff not just the cops the MILITARY ffs.
Why do they have such a big stick up their arse there though?
Did they lose EVEN MORE territory to emus or something?

Have people at least started being passive aggressive with the Waffen Coof Coof

Or spoke to them like the scum they are.
“I know, you are “ONLY FOLLOWING ORDERS”

“You still part of the Morison youth or have you been promoted to the SS?”
“I have not disobeyed mien fuehrer A THOUSAND YEARS TO FLATTEN THE CURVE”

“No officer, I am not hiding the unvaccinated under the floorboards”

“things have completely changed since “the new normal” for example I used to think it was a bad thing when Australian soldiers died in service but I have since changed my stance.”

If I lived in Australia I would have a big mural built depicting emus having their way with the Australian military to piss them off or maybe even emus putting them through some medieval torture.

Almost considering helping people flee Australia but I live in the UK so it wouldn’t be much better here

It's practice, proper materials, practice, and access to an embroidery machine. I've made fumo faces before with just hand embroidery, and they can't compare to machine stitched faces. Really though, its all trial and error and I'm still learning too.

The thing a lot of new people get wrong is the skin material, which is something called "Toyknit". It's essentially only available in China or Japan, so you're probably going to have to buy it off Aliexpress. It's actually rather cheap, cheaper than alternative fabrics. Plus you really don't use that much once you get the hang of things.

Totally!
So for someone totally new to sewing n shit, a fumo is probably a bit much. My first ever thing I tried to sew was a fumo head, and it didn't go well. Instead, I'd try and find something small like one of them felt plushie crafts or similar and try and copy something. Don't feel bad about copying as just learning and figuring out all the little tricks is great practice.
For the fumos though, basically the pattern I posted earlier in this thread should be fine. It's 1:1 with a real fumo, so just print it out and use them as a pattern. Pic related is measurements of the 1:1 pattern against a ruler you can use to verify your pattern is full size. You basically trace the pattern over your fabric with something like a marking pen or crayon and using a pair of fabric scissors cut them out. NOTE: in order to make a functional 3d part, you will need to flip the pattern over to create a mirrored piece, if you don't then you'll basically just have two of the same pieces that won't fit. This isn't a problem if the material is 2 sided, but with stuff with patterns/designs or if they have trace marks, then that'll be an issue.
I highly recommend just making individual parts first, like arms, legs, etc. without attaching them to other parts. This is to make sure you've got everything right. I actually have a pile of misc fumo parts that I just use for reference. Be sure to stuff them too, as a lot of the time they will look wonky after you first sew them but will actually look fine once you fully stuff them. The fumo head is by far the biggest culprit of this.
Once you get all the individual parts down, try and fully make a head. You don't need to spend time doing the eyes/mouth/eyebrows with embroidery or anything, for your first few attempts tracing the face features with a pen or something is fine. You mainly want to make sure you can get the alignment right. That fumo WIP I posted a lot earlier has a very misaligned face, which is really, really easy to have happen if you aren't experienced enough. For the face, the most important piece to get right is the chin. If you fuck it up, it'll skew the face and when stuffed will be pretty lumpy/malformed. The key is to mark the center of the chin and the fumo face part as well as where the chin should end on both the left and right side of the face. Keep in mind you WILL fuck up your first few, and it'll feel really frustrating, but if you keep going you're already better than most people who try and make a fumo. Try and look at other custom fumos and see how they're made as well as them from different angles as that really helps with figuing out what piece goes where. An example of this are fumo ears, they are kinda sandwiched between two other sewn pieces and are a fucking pain to get right. There's a website I use that also has 3D scans of a bunch of different fumos, so if you don't have one of your own you can at least see one from different angles.
For the toyknit, this is the seller that most people I'm familiar with use. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32603856876.html?spm=2114.12057483.detail.3.1ebb1ef65aaIGw
I use A or C, be sure to make sure all the pieces are from the same color, I also fucked that up with that naked test as you can see.

Shoot me any more questions or clarifications too, I'm happy to help. There's also a fumo making """discord""" too if you're into that.

Absolute legend, your info will definitely be helpful when I start my own first fumo project next week. Do you have any tips regarding fumo filling? I personally don't really know how to nail that certain firmness of a fumo while still keeping it soft. Regular cotton probably won't do the trick but what about foam rubber that is normally used in seat paddings? That material should in theory be firm enough while also being soft. thinking around $200 usd for the large ones I'm making now (with changes depending on complexity, for example, if the character is p much naked/skin tight clothes or an animal with no clothes, will probs be less than half the cost. but somthing with complex armor or covered in ruffles will take thrice as long to make, so will probs have an extra 100 on top, the work time on these vary wildly depending on design, so I feel a flexible approach would deffoes be needed)
does that sound reasonable?
gonna make a pattern for 1 or 2 smaller ones that have lower prices, may even make an ultra small keychain one, but not sure international postage would be economical with that.
just contact through twitter or discord dm yea, aranging a call would work but I wouldn't require it if someone dosn't want to and things seem to be working fine through dms.
deposit will depend on how specific the order is. if it's just a basic 2hu will probs be lower, higher for a super specific custom order.

My first few attempts were very inconsistent with how the stuffing looked, until I realized that the key is to honestly stuff as much as you possibly can in. I made a tool to help get the fluff into hard to reach spots (A pen with the ink and point taken out). The difference between an understuffed and adequately stuffed fumo is staggering. Import taxes can be quite high so here is what happens if you do the tax wrong(always send tracked).

Item arrives in destination country and is held at the post office until the handling fee and tax are paid.

Last time this happened to me it was a DVD from America(region free)
It was an £8 handling fee and around £10 in taxes don’t remember exact figure.
The latter is calculated based on the price of the item so if you declare the item to be valued at $200 when posted the customer will be taxed as if they have bought $200 worth of trade.

That is why even IF the customer pays full price you should declare the item as being worth $5 - $20 when posted because the customer will be made to pay more if you don't

Fumos are fun to attempt to make, but hard. They don't require yarn though, its a different material called "toyknit" though I wouldnt concern yourself with that stuff at first. I suggest playing around with some cheap craft store felt personally.
Yarn varies in price depending on the quality and the blend (percentage of materials the fiber is made from). Stuff like wool is more expensive than synthetic, but softer etc. It's pretty self explanatory

If you have any questions, I'd be happy to attempt to answer them

For some pieces its glue, the others its thread.
Basically if you are attaching pieces end to end, its thread, and if you are attaching pieces like those felt triangles on Okuu's skirt, then that's glue.
Look up a few guides or just fuck around. Most people do a lot of trial and error. I know I did.

guys how do i sew two tubes together
i made the feet and the legs but cant wrap my brain over how to do it so they join right.

>> No.36558328

>>36553174
So there are a few ways you can do it. The easiest though probably most annoying would be to cut the sitches so that the foot and leg pieces are flat and join them together.
2nd method is that you turn both pieces inside out, and line up the seams line up, and sew as normal until you start to reach the end where you won't be able to access the seam anymore. From there, you need to stop and tie the stitch, flip back normally, and do a ladder stitch to fully seal it.
As you can tell, it's easier to do it while both pieces are still flat.

>> No.36558364

>>36558328
Err strike that second method. I had to think about it more.
So basically, in the way you have them now, you can flip the shoe part so it's the same orientation as the leg, (as in both edges facing same direction). Placing them against each other, hand sew a stitch on the inside of the shoe and leg, going around until you can't anymore. Tie the stitch and complete from the outside using ladder stitch.
Apologies if this is too confusing, at work atm. If you need help I can take a picture explaining what I mean
