/jp/ was created for all the things that were too otaku-ish for moot

Prior to /jp/'s creation in 2013 the primary place for Touhou discussion took place on world4ch, which was owned and operated by W.T. Snacks. Snacks had long been angry at moot for stealing the name of his site and much of his userbase, because 4chan allowed image posting while w4ch did not. So in early 2013 he orchestrated a raid where he sent the remaining posters of his site to spam 4chan thinking this would make moot regret messing with him. On the contrary, moot saw this as an opportunity to deliver the final blow to w4ch and invited all the Touhou spammers and hijackers to their own board, which would be /jp/. After this w4ch closed down and Snacks committed suicide.

As most of you would know, Touhou-related thread topics are neither fully anime nor fully vidya-related, so putting one /a/ or /v/ is not always guaranteed to be on-topic. It became a menace on those boards (and even /b/) when people started spamming the Touhou Hijack image all over the site. After this, moot finally realized that there was more to Japanese otaku media than just anime and videogames, so he created /jp/ as a "Japan General" board for discussing niche Japanese pop culture topics for things that weren't clearly anime/vidya.

The thing is that if you pay attention to (most) 2hu threads, they (often) don't break that point: character imagedump threads are focused enough, gameplay/news discussions all respect their own space, and so on. Meanwhile, there were a bunch of times these past few months where there were multiple threads for the same vtuber (all filled with nothing but empty bumps because those people don't even care enough about them to dump images), there are a shitton of vtuber generals, the hololive general is constantly getting split because someone didn't like the OP and everyone wants to be the new OP, etc. All of that makes even less sense now that /vt/ has existed for half a year.
For further proof, you can just go back in time before Hololive exploded in popularity: despite there being so many Touhou threads in the board, everything else also had a lot of room to be discussed in here, and every thread lasted for days without a bump. That started changing after the Hololive general became the most active place on 4chan, and went to complete shit last December when some mods had a fight and decided to take it out on /jp/ by breaking the containment status of that general. It's all there in the archives, if you feel autistic enough to gather the stats yourself.
And then a certain autist will ignore everything and get angry at 2hufags for existing again.

Image dumps are a waste of bandwidth, a waste of conscious effort, the same images all the time for no real reason, untagged which in some instances leads to elitism depending on the content when it is unsourced and can't be found easily.
if there was OP-only images by default, you'd be more inclined to link the source in the first place, or not link any image dumps or link them all at once in a gallery. It won't solve all arguments, but it will deal with a lot.
It will also cut down on a fuckload of pointless image spam, which deals with a lot of those /v/tards with their EBIN meems. (I say them, it's clearly that /qa/ tards group)

The difference is that KanColle never got its own board. The situation before /vt/ could have worked as long as mods enlarged the board to support the massively increased activity, or even better if they forced vtuber posting to remain isolated in a few generals, but after /vt/'s creation, there's absolutely no excuse to give as to why they're still allowed in here. Let's look at /v/ for an example. At any given point /v/ probably has 2-3 Pokemon threads up, unless there's some big announcement but those fade fast. Now even though /vp/ exists you don't see people constantly telling the OP to fuck off to /vp/ because it's an inconsequential number of threads.
Now compare that to /jp/ which has about 26 vtuber threads up at this very moment, give or take because I can't identify all of them. There's absolutely no reason for them to have such a huge number of threads up on this board when they have one all to themselves, but they do simply because the mods allow it.
This isn't the fault of vtuberfags because any other group would, and frequently try, to do the exact same. Recurring threads about a single game on /v/ get told to move to /vg/ and get deleted because generals belong on /vg/, Touhou threads on /v/ get deleted if there's too many or if they're created too soon after the last one because there's /jp/ and /vg/ for that. If these rules were applied fairly to all groups then there wouldn't be a problem, everyone here would be fine with vtubers if there were just a handful of threads. But instead they're just allowed to have well over a page's worth of threads up at any given time because of favoritism.

Vtubers had containment threads last year because mods knew how big the topic was already becoming, and how much it would harm /jp/ AS A WHOLE, NOT ONLY THE TOUHOU THREADS YOU'RE SO OBSESSED WITH if they were let out of their generals. This was proven by how they broke the containment in December and the board became completely unusable until when /vt/ was made, which helped divert some of the posting elsewhere, but not all of it because they didn't want to commit to a big change.

Some things are just not big enough to warrant an entire board for themselves. I'd say Touhou is a good example of that, especially these days after it's reclined so much. There's no reason not to though. This was true back on the old garbage shitcode from whatever retard moot hired before, but the rewrite from the API made that a non-issue. New boards != more impact on server. In fact, it'd probably be less because people would go to boards they are interested in, instead of loading a bunch of shit they aren't. I frequented the Jay from around 2011-2015 or 2016. The board just feels different than it used to and I really just think it's a case of the userbase of the internet as a whole changing. I occasionally look in now and then to see if there are any interesting threads and it's always just the same imagedumps and people horny-posting. Something else I noticed is that /jp/ got faster even before vtubers existed. Prior to 2014 or 2015 the board would slow right down about 7pm my time, 1 hour before Flanfly would get posted, but in 2014/5 til now, the posts were more frequent.

I don't really understand the appeal of vtubers beyond wacky social media clips of something funny happening. How anyone can watch a 2-3 hour stream of someone just talking is beyond me, though I think it is a case of believing that the streamer('s persona) is your friend. I never got into watching regular youtubers or streamers either. From what I can understand the vtuber generals are just Discord chatrooms without Discord.

I think 4chan has become worse overall and I hope I can find another website which is just as enjoyable as it used to be, but my hopes are slim.
