For a brush, go to a drug store and find a kids toothbrush with flat bristles. That'll help with shaping and laying things flat. Any kind of human hair product that is dye and fragrance free and labeled as wig safe can be used for doll wigs. For getting styles to stick, use something firm like hair wax and just barely touch your fingers with it to help mold the bangs a bit.

My boy's been sitting in a box for 5 years. After re-attaching his eye, sticking his company plate back on that fell off, removing 2 magnets to make his headcap fit back on, putting his forearm/hand that fell off years ago and cleaning up some dirt marks on his body and figuring out a way to make his wig stay on his damn head (it kept popping off) and styling it in a way that I don't completely hate and dressing him up, my boy is finally complete. It feels surreal to finally have him displayed after all this time.

I make most of my furniture, props and accessories for my girls and the only power tool I use is a drill/screwdriver. You have to have some other hand tools though, like a miter box, saw, hammer and sewing skills for any upholstering or pillows you want.

It's for American Girl dolls, but you can just make the legs on chairs and beds a little longer and it'll mostly be in scale. That blog is also a good source for smaller props and printables to make them.
You won't find a lot of guide stuff for DD/SmD in scale, but it's really easy to find American Girl doll tutorials and just alter them a little bit. Good Luck!

The other skills I've learned for crafting props and taking photos. My wife really wasn't happy about my doll hobby at first, but after I started learning other "practical" skills and her seeing how happy it made me, she's come around a lot. Last year for Christmas too, I made a custom wood frame bed for my cousin's daughter who plays with American Girl dolls and I dressed up as Santa to give it to her. It was an amazing memory I never would've had if I hadn't gotten into dolls.
As sappy and wholesome as it sounds, the hobby really has helped pull me out of a depressive state and gave me something to push to learn stuff for.

No, don't do this, the proportions and sizing are totally different from DDs and MDDs and the clothes will look sloppy. What size doll are you shopping for? I buy from Volks and all kinds of third party sellers. Shop around on Etsy, also Y!JA or FromSen if you're OK with using a proxy. I really like FromJapan as a proxy, they make it really easy. Volks is usually top tier as long as it's listed to fit your doll. What set did you have this problem with?

Not sure what sizes you're looking at but my DDs have the most issues with: sets meant for SDs/resin but "fits" DDs, size differences like a (L) bust shirt fitting a smaller bust, older sets that tend to use velcro opposed to actual buttons.

The jacket is so awkwardly bulky that I don't even use it, it really doesn't look like in the photos, plus it's basically impossible to get it to sit over the shoulders without putting the arms through it like how it's posed there. The shirt is tight enough that it won't even fit if the bra is on and I have to take it off to get the buttons up, and the middle button is awkwardly placed such that it's always angled slightly through the hole and won't sit straight outside of the hole, even though it says it's suited for a size M bust and that's what I have. The skirt's catches I already mentioned are badly placed, and the belt will basically always hang above the skirt at the back instead of lining up with it since there's no hook for the belt to go through at the back of the skirt, there are only two hooks on each side of it.
Also doesn't really help that I picked it up at Doll Point and there the bag holding it said it was for size S / M / L, not SS / S / M like on the website. So yeah, not really happy with that outfit.

Not really fond of that idea after getting fucked when the articulated hands I got via ZenMarket had a defect and both they and the seller refused to cover any shipping costs for a repair or replacement. I'd rather buy from places that ship internationally themselves.

As for other places to shop for clothes that ship internationally directly, all Etsy shops do, also there's dollgerie, TTYAdoll, nine9style, AliceCollections (acbjd), dollremi.store, coolcat, dollsn and you can always dig through mandarake. I've bought from all of them directly and never had a problem (in the US, don't know where you are).

Because those clothes are too big, anon. The props and stuff are generally a good size, but you can fit two DDs into an AG/MLA/OG/BT/JG shirt. CoolCat and ACBJD both have affordable options, as well as the metric fuckton of shit on sites like etsy. I'm absolutely in favor of seeing what you can get locally, because I do it for props all the time. Sometimes you can get the hats to work as a cute oversized look, but generally speaking they're just too big.

Pic related from Volks looks quite nice, but since it specifies DD (L) as the size, I guess that means the chest will be loose on a size M girl. Since their site is such a mess too it's rather hard to search, and it seems like a lot of stuff is only available as part of sets rather than in individual parts, which I figure must be on purpose given how a bunch of outfits have nice tops and ugly unfitting bottoms or vice versa. I also can't find any pantyhose at all, so I'm not sure if that's just the search being bad or if they just don't have any. I'm also reminded now of how most of their shoe catalogue is just out of stock at all times.

On Etsy the easiest way to find things is by searching for "BJD _____" with the blank being whatever you're looking for. Smartdoll stuff will fit a DD M 99% of the time, a fair chunk of my dolls stuff is made for Smartdoll and fit them like a glove. If the listing on Etsy has a drop down menu for sizes and you don't see DD listed, look for SD13 or SDgr those are the Super Dollfie size equivalents to DD. Volks clothes really are all about the sets and the limited availability. So yeah, finding individual pieces is fairly uncommon, and shoes usually sell out really fast. Hate to sound like a broken record, but Etsy has tons of shoe sellers too. You can also look at Luts for shoes.

I posted the finished version of this picture in a previous thread, the only clothing in this picture from Volks are the shoes behind the Metroid. All three shirts were listed on Etsy as Smartdoll sized, both pairs of pants were made for smart doll, the jean shorts were for SD13 and the other two shoes were for generic 1/3 sized BJD.
Here are a few Etsy shops I frequent that can help with shoes, pantyhose and leggings as well as some more sedate single pieces: MoriTime, SummerCourtCreations, Dollsnshop (which is the same as Dollsn, if the website won't ship to Aus I think Etsy shop will), and SewingNekoShop.
