Why is Daggerfall such a jerk? I'm supposed to kill some Orc leader and his gang in what I assumed was a dungeon but looked like a pile of leaves with a door in it, and I've been wandering around this dungeon for days getting my ass handed to me by werewolves and nightfags and have yet to see a single Orc. Oh, and doors closed with magic that have absolutely no clues about how to open them.

And they are not even half as bad as Risen past the first act. Gothic 2 gave you the whole new area and a decent amount of side-quests. Risen? The only things you still have to do after finishing the first act are the story related quests and pretty much all of them end up in dungeon crawl and some more dungeon crawl.

To be honest, I'm still in the first chapter. First chapters are always the most fun in Piranha Bytes games, anyways (I always spend much, much more time in ch1 than in later chapters).
But if I recall correctly, Gothic 1 also went completely fucked up after some point in the story (it's been too long ago, but I can vaguely recall something like Gomez locking himself in with the Fire Mages?).

Risen? Gothic? Silly games with outdated game mechanics and presentation quality from the pre Half-Life era from a studio that hasn't even developed one decent game. Buggy games that need a year to be at least playable are not decent.

Depends on what kind of WRPG you want. If you want an open world where you can just do stuff without focusing on an epic storyline or anything, try Risen or Gothic 1/2 (although you might dislike the graphics of the latter two, as they're kinda old).
