For example, if you know that yesterday's match ended at 3:0 you'll lose interest after seeing the 3rd goal in the replay. If you only know that there were more than 2 goals scored, you'll be interested until the last minute.

I just finished Anonymous. My overall assessment is that it's pretty meh (sorry random anon that seems to like it). The writer is the same guy that wrote both Rasen Kairou games, so I more or less knew what to expect. To be fair, he's also apparently written other things that are totally different (parts of Muv-Luv and what not), but Anonymous/Rasen Kairou is I guess what he writes when he's horny or something. Anyways, it's 陵辱 game which is fine and all but it's not a nukige and has plot, characters, and all that jazz. To me, the game has basically all of the same problems that the first (not the second though) Rasen Kairou has. The main characters are totally powerless to the forces that work against them and exist merely to be continually beaten down. I understand this is where personal taste comes into play, but to me, this gets really boring and dull after a while. Bad endings and depression is totally fine, but you can't just be monotone with this. There's not even really a clear antagonist to "hate". They're mostly just faceless guys that do bad things. It's lame honestly.

That said, it does get some things right. Namely, the main character has a pretty good twist hidden in his backstory. The bizarre segment about throwing off a dead cat off a cliff in the prologue ends up being very important. It turns out that the MC actually kicked the cat really hard out of rage (some jerks messed up his new mountain bike) and mistakenly thought he killed it. He brings it up to the cliff and is about to chuck it when the cat wakes up and meows at him again. It pisses him off so he throws it off anyway. It turns out he's literally a mentally ill schizo or some shit and magically forgets this all happened. If you read this spoiler without having read Anonymous, well what's easily the best part of the plot is ruined for you. That all ties in pretty nicely to the events that happen in the prologue that are left a mystery at first. Obviously, he was involved in some way but conveniently doesn't remember. Wondering exactly what's wrong with the MC and how he is involved is the best part of the plot. The fight scene near the end is pretty cool too. I wish they played up Kashima's schizo-ness some more. Him having an "episode" and throwing his dead (?) sister off a cliff is the reason why the main story happens in the first place. I'd wish it played more of a forward role in the story as well. If you pick some choices, it does pop up again but it seems wasted. They should have given him the option to rape somebody or something. But anyways, the MC's route is overall decent.

Like the Raisen Kairou games, this has the multi-perspective thing where you can play routes through the viewpoint of the other characters besides the MC. Unfortunately, they're mostly boring besides Taiichi's. Yuka's scenario doesn't really add anything to the story. There's the plot point that she gets hush money, but that's about it. The other stuff could easily be deduced and didn't need any confirmation. Sakiko's scenario is almost offensively bad. It's told in the style of an online blog with big walls of text (the game literally cuts off characters on the right if the lines are too long; nice Q&A there.) Does it read like the postings of a depressed widow? Sure. Is it interesting to read? No, it's mostly just tiresome. They could have at least taken advantage of the situation and made some decent H, but I mostly just felt blue balled. The scenes are all really short. Quite a shame because one CG was actually really good. There's even technically an incest part, but it's not really played well so it lacks impact. Basically, that route felt like a waste of time mostly. Taiichi's scenario isn't actually bad. It's hard to feel sympathetic for him because he's fucking retarded, but it does provide some closure on what happened to him and Aya since they disappear from the MC's route pretty early on. At least they get a somewhat good end together so there's that at least.

I rarely criticize this, but honestly the voice acting (minus Sakiko's seiyuu) is kind of bad. Everyone's speaking voices are fine, but doing the harder emotions was not good. Aya's seiyuu was particularly bad. Those were some pretty pathetic いやあああ's. Compared to both Rasen Kairou games, I'd say Anonymous is easily worse than both which is kind of disappointing. I don't really like the first Rasen Kairou, but it at least has shock factor going for it. Honestly, that game is more fucked-up than this one was. Plus there's extra content in there that's just straight up moe which was really nice after spending hours reading about girls getting raped and stuff. Rasen Kairou 2 is actually a good game with well-thought out plot and some fantastic scenes (that fucking rooftop fight). It would take another big elaborate post to explain that, but Anonymous clearly is much inferior to that game. It has some good ideas and moments, but overall it's way too flawed imo. At least it's relatively short.

Thinking of starting Demonbane, I'm not going to miss anything if I just read the ps2 port? i.e story details bein censored outside of h-scenes.

So this game has some glitch where the text doesn't always update unless the mouse is hovering over the menu. A workaround is to just always leave it at the top but that keeps the menu bar always visible and covers some of the background. This started to annoy me so I wrote a script that executes when enter is released to move the mouse upwards to show the menu and then move it out of the way again. The menu bar flashes for a second which is I guess kind of annoying but overall an improvement. Why can't japs program properly? Or maybe it's some weird VM glitch who knows.
