Yeah the epilogue is some bullshit. I guess they were going with "He's from WW2 so he is still trying to sort out" (Like Miura and Natsuno who are still doing slow after 5 years while everyone has multiple children) but after his confession at the end of the route and him finding out their originals were lovers it feels just a cop-out/bad writing. But I kinda don't like the epilogue in general, it feels almost shounen jump tier in some areas.
