Dunno if I'm gonna watch them all but will watch at least 2 of them. I would have read Watashi no Otto's manga instead of watching the adaptation but the lead actress looks like a mommy version of Hamabe Minami so I'm gonna watch the adaptation first.

Not sure if I'm on a Yoji Yamada phase because I like his movies or a Chieko Baisho phase because she is pretty (and also a good actress).

In this movie, "Sunshine in the Old Neighborhood", she plays a factory girl about to make some hard decisions about her future life.
The movie begins with a date with her fiancee, they're window shopping, looking things they could buy for their future home, all expensive things that they can't buy. She comments she doesn't understand why those things are so expensive for no reason and how can people pay so much money for it. Her fiancee comments that human ambition has no limits and it's a good thing that they aren't the type to dream with unreachable things and goals. And the movie seems to argue with that.

Chieko's character lives in the poor suburb and has two brothers, one studying for university and one in the elementary. This second brother is the type to dream with more than he can reach, at least for legal means. He is mingling with suspicious kids and they steal a toy. Other things happen, opinions are spoken, examples are witnessed and Chieko's character begins to have serious doubts about her convictions that a common boring but secure life is enough for her, that it's enough to make her live a happy life.

I really liked this movie.
For the description you'll notice that you already watched a movie like this one, but even if it can't show you something new it can still show you something nice. The dialogues are not bad, the scenes and dialogue advance the story and themes very well, and Chieko character plays her character emotions very well.
The direction and camera work also helps a look, it's a nice movie to look. If you like those old black and white noir-like movies from this period you'll love the look of some scenes.

Watched "Home From The Sea" (1972) that shares the same crew and cast from this one >33826811 It's like "Where Spring Comes Late" is a continuation of this one, so it's strange that it was made two years latter making this one movie here a "prequel".. While that movie started with the couple leaving the island after making their decision to move, this one will end with they leaving after showing us the process in which they made their decision.
It's a similar movie and at same time different, more melancholic, more quiet and contemplative. I also loved the cinematography, this team really enjoys producing beautiful cuts of the scenery.

And now I have a problem. I want to watch "A Distant Cry from Spring" that would be the "last in this trilogy" but it's hard to find. Maybe will have to burn a bit of ration on Avistaz.

No, it was modern and I think ongoing, episodes were only around 5 minutes long. They were on youtube and dailymotion. I watched a couple late at night one time but I was apparently incognito as there's no trace in my browser.

I don't know where else to ask this, but I figured you folks would probably know better than anyone else. There's a radio play on niconico that I love, and I desperately want to find a copy of the script. Is there any good source online for that kind of thing? Google hasn't been helpful, but my weak Japanese could be letting me down. It was broadcast by NHK-FM in October 1988, if that helps.
If there isn't an easy way to find radio play scripts, does anyone have any recs for transcription software? I can probably rip the audio, but when it comes to transcription, my Japanese skills are not at the level yet where I can transcribe on my own, though I probably could proofread a machine transcript.

I didn't really enjoy the ending. Don't get me wrong, it was well done. Everything about it was consistently good but it pursued a different path to get there which I wasn't satisfied with. Killing Juichi was a very good twist but it was also very sad. It fit right in the theme of life not going always going your way. From what I can see, it’s not. You can’t make a faithful adaptation of Homunculus. What you need is an exceptional director to create something as impactful as the original. Shimizu Takashi seems capable based on his body of work but I’d have asked Miike Takashi or Sono Sion to create it instead. A masterpiece from a genius like Yamamoto Hideo needs geniuses like those two to adapt it into a movie.

Recently finished Talio after discovering it through its soundtrack. Writing was pretty cliched and inconsistent and editing was outright horrific, but the leads and music carried it well on their own.

Been pretty busy lately but I finally had an opportunity to sit down and watch 2 movies this past week. First off being Kanseitou (Control Tower). Cute short (1hr 5~min) little romance/music focused movie. Ai Hashimoto is decent in it for her age. Definitely predictable but I still enjoyed it. 2nd movie being Kikyo. It's tagged as comedy but I personally didn't find it super funny. I think it's just because of the cultural differences launched the jokes over my head but I thought the movie was fantastic. Sweet and small scope story which I always enjoy. The more intimate "countryside" stuff. 2 movies down and about 10 more added to the backlog.

I know about Higurashi but I am not really fan of it.
Manga has decent art and sol scenes with good characterization but I hate the fanservice.
Anime has okay music and no fanservice but the art is not as good for horror as the manga one and a lot of characterization is skipped.
Those are impression based on few episodes/chapters. I don't want to read a novel that is like 30 hours either.

Yes it did but only to a degree. Due to many IRL production issues and world events, it felt really rushed so the pacing and overall production suffered. The plot itself was fantastic and really carried the entire show but I'd be lying if I wasn't a bit disappointed.
