19 days. I have been at it for 19 days! That is truly amazing for me. I would have never lasted this long without quitting in the past. That’s how I know this time things will be much different this time around. While I am happy that I’m still doing Japanese, there are some things I could have done much better. The first thing is immersion.

I have immersed some these past 19 days. I finished DEVILMAN crybaby (amazing show, btw), I watched Nozoki Ana, and I am currently watching several shows. I have accomplished a lot (for my standards ), but I know for a fact that I could have done so much more. I have shown myself that I can enjoy Japanese media. I am really enjoying anime right now, so I know I can watch that a lot each day. It’s time to be more strict. Instead of trying to do things in moderation, I will try to consume as much Japanese as much as possible every single day. If I get bored with something, I will drop it immediately and move on to something else. I know I can do this. I just have to push myself. Now, with all of that being said, I will make some exceptions. I MUST listen to English ASMR at night. Japanese ASMR exists, but most of it is either a) not made by a native or b) just straight up sucks lol. I also will make an exception every now and then with games. I don’t game as much as I used to, but I know I will want to play sometimes. That’s about it with immersion! The second thing I can do better with is anki.

I am good at showing up each day to do my reps. The problem however is I am very undecided on what I want to do with premade stuff. I would do core 2.3k for like a week, drop it and try something else, then rinse and repeat. I am so anxious to mine. I REALLY want to mine my own stuff, but I know that it would benefit me greatly to take the time to get some vocab and grammar down pat. So, I have decided to stick with the following decks: DoJG and JLPT N5+N4 Tango decks. I should be done with everything premade in late April to early May. I am not going to budge on this. I need to stop stopping and resist the urge to do it on my own. Patience is key.

I have been studying for 8 months. If I were to sum up my experience, the first few weeks were rocky, then I started to grasp particular concepts, but still can't form realized sentences yet. I understand this is something that takes years to get basic at the novice level, but I understand why I'm declining. I have a very nice instructor on Take Lessons, and we went over my goals. I think I gave her the wrong impression, that I want to live in Japan and work there, which I don't. I get that anecdotes aren't useful when coming to an objective conclusion, but someone's personal experience is still relevant to getting information, no matter where you go.

Im playing a Nintendo Switch game called Astral Chain completely in Japanese currently and in the first 4 or so hours I've been able to follow along pretty well. There is a new character that was just introduced into the story named Lappy who is a person in a cartoon dog mascot suit and they speak fairly simply but I noticed they end every sentence with ぴ, and it's shown in the subtitles also.

I am familiar with Japanese sentences having some added nuance with endings like ゼ or ぞ but ぴ would be a new one for me and it seems really strange that this character ends EVERY sentence that way. Has anyone else ever heard of this before? Did I miss some important context as to why he does this? Is that just supposed to be a dog sound or something?

If anyone can shed any light on this it would be much appreciated.
