The anime is worth watching for it's own reasons(Rie Tanaka is like 50% of why I love Suigintou), just keep in mind that it diverges from the source material. Feel free to take them in whichever order you want. The second season of the DEEN anime is pretty much all original and not related to the manga at all, IIRC.

Seasons 1 and 2 of the anime had a lot of original content and diverges a lot from the manga. Deen only did the third season covering the manga past volume 8 and is pretty close to the source material. So close that they had to cram all 8 volumes of the first part of the manga into the first episode so they could continue off of it. Read the manga if you can. The anime is still pretty good, even the anime only season 2 feels like a blueprint for the end of the manga.

Kind of a prequel actually. It happens before the original manga but you can legit skip 0 because it has very little to do with the rest of the manga and for that reason it feels wrong to call it a prequel. There's no big "wow that explains a lot!" moments in 0 that enhances your understanding of the rest of the manga. It's simply past events with no impact on the dolls who appear.

Plus they retconned (or plain forgot) that the dolls sleep in the N-field between masters to them fucking around in the miniature garden between masters just to shoe-in Hina and Kanaria appearing in it. It irritates me so much.

At the time I assumed that was due to dream and reality getting all fucked up or something and that P-P would explain later...but they didn't did they. Oh well.

I'll get my thoughts on a manga reboot out there just because. As much as I'd like for all the supplementary material to make better sense in the manga canon, after how mishandled RM0 was I do not trust Peach-Pit if they did that anytime soon. I think I'd prefer some of AU story mostly detached from the canon they've created so far which is honestly what they should have done with RM0 because of how much it broke the canon and has little to do with the greater narrative of the series.

As far as anime goes, I think they're best off trying to adapt the original manga and fix up some inconsistencies with the early chapters (where DID that ability Shinku/Gin had to bring toys to life go off to?). Plus there's a ton of other material to adapt if it got popular again. It would make me a happy soul if they threw in references to the lightnovels and RM0 too.

Maite wa Ikenai Rozen Maiden is basically that, though none of it but the oneshot chapter is translated. I have raws for it and honestly it looks funny as shit.

I can't say though that a new continuity focusing on comedy would be a good idea. Rozen Maiden is built for storytelling and I'd hate to see these characters flanderized any more than they already are. I like me some haha funny doll moments every now and then but there is so much wasted potential in these characters and I'd like to see it explored more. I want to finally see Gin post-character development, Kanaria to finally be plot-relevant, Suiseiseki to stop being a one-note tsundere stereotype, Souseiseki to not be tied to Suiseiseki so much and be her own character, Hina being used in more ways that aren't just being cutesy, and Kira given more development. Call it sacrilegious, but I cannot ignore the failings with the writing even as a fan who has had an unhealthy obsession with this series for nearly a solid decade. Rozen Maiden has too much baggage to make it as a comedy series and what it really needs is to do is go back to its roots and do another story that resonates with people.
This is mostly just me bitching about the main manga, though.

I'd go back in time and force Studio Nomad to not try adapting a manga less than 20 chapters long into an anime. Their anime comes out a year later now, but actually follows the manga for the most part and as a result there's no canon spilt with the Rozen Maiden community anymore. Now we can all suffer together on mostly the same page.

A lot of it was plain inferior to counterpart events in the manga. Bara and Enju are ultimately just filler villains for the anime and honestly, what else could they do with them? Bara's dead, their story's over.
The only thing I will give Nomad Rozen credit for is making Suiseiseki's pacifism actually relevant because everyone's always shounen fighting in that anime. The manga's not like that.
