On one hand they aren't getting much involvement as of now, what with performing once a week, plus as I already said they didn't even get a setlist of their own until February even though the group had been effectively active since last October.
On the other hand, Jurina Matsui and some other odd SKE member are granted an undue lot of screentime both in AKBingo and PVs, sometimes even more than old time AKB members. Also, it appears they will soon stop mooching off Sakae Taro for their shameless plug on local television and get their own little program.

What's all the more peculiar is that Akimoto seems to be far more confident with SDN. They even managed to rope BOUNCEBACK (who worked as an arranger for SweetS and Ayumi Hamasaki) into the project.

As far as I'm concerned, the only difference I noticed between SKE and AKB so far is that the former doesn't offer so much of a wide-ranging appeal and talent selection as the latter.
Granted, most of the girls are relatively fresh out of auditions when not former AKB Research Students, so it would be out of question to expect any of them to stand out like Sayaka Akimoto or Minami Takahashi did and should therefore be partly excused for their inexperience.
Regardless, this doesn't mean that their second set of stage songs was really something to write home about. Very formulaic aside from a few exceptions, in fact.

Yeah, SKE has had a really disappointing start. Their first single isn't bad, but it is sort of generic and the PV was terrible. By comparison, AKB48's first few singles are in my opinion some of the best things they've produced.

I'm not really familiar with how Mixi popularity ranking works, to be honest. Is it restricted to AKB48 fans only or it's like any other social network fanclub, where you creat one and wait for members to roll in?
Whatever the case, it appears the jump goes back to when she started starring as a front-girl for the So-Net campaign and as a co-host for that NTV program Another Sky.

Also, they aren't really 'winning' anything, just doing better than before. MM still sells about the same in CD numbers, with the exception to 1 or 2 singles and H!P is better off in every other department such as ticket sales, event turn up, media coverage. You also can't just put aside the history behind H!P and MM, AKB doesn't have that.
