Is Devil Survivor any good? I've been thinking about buying it.

I haven't played any Megaten games, although I have Persona 4. I just haven't gotten around to playing it. Too many VN's, too little time.

Having finished Devil Summoner 2 this afternoon, I can honestly say that it is MUCH BETTER than its predecessor.

Devil Survivor's music is fucking terrible other than a couple tracks.

Also game has some of the "lol die once to figure out this bosses quirk" you see in Nocturne, except battles can take a lot longer and go sour easily. I just plain stopped playing at a point near the end of the game. I suck too much or whatever, it became unfun.

It's an okay game. The plot isnt anything worth bragging about though,neither is Combat. Combat is pretty easy if you pay attention to weaknesses(Which the game outright shows you). In the end you'll probably just keep playing it for the girl called Yuzu AKA "Yoohoo" and her tits.

Her glorious...Glorious tits.... I'd her Yoohoo if you know what I mean. Bit of advice though,do not pursue her route. It's essentially a BAD END.

All of the games are grinding. P2 shines where it counts though (story, character development, art, and music).

Most of the core team (the main art director, scenario writer, music director, etc) left after P2. So even though P3 was quite different in the end it was still a fine game that I enjoyed playing. As a whole it wasn't as finely polished as its predecessor though.

Where would someone who's never played any of these start?

Why would anyone say anything else other than Nocturne, I don't get it.

Persona 2 has the best plot and cast. but the grind is horrible. fortunately you can just play it on emulator and use save states to skip 99% of the grind.

Yeah, true. With the right Persona on the right floor, you're basically immune to anything the enemy can throw at you. Just go into battle alone with the Protagonist and you rake in the experience.

both Persona 2 games are like 30
Nocturne took me 40
Then there's persona 3 and 4 which over 60
I haven't played the others.

Persona 2 more like ~80 hours

No, there are a few minor elements you may miss but generally speaking DS1 was bad. Random battles in the towns made the pace of the game unbearable, and there simply weren't enough different attacks to make battles interesting for long. Just skip straight to DS2.

I'm playing Nocturne now it was hard up before I fought Dante but now it hasn't been too bad. I'm about halfway.

I still like the Persona series more since there is more emphasis on story.

Hitler is not the final boss in innocent sin, the real final boss will rape you. 5 attacks per turn, all of them can 1 shot you, ability to hit your SP instead of HP, dekaja etc, but the ending is awesome and makes any amount of grinding worth it

Playing Devil Survivor now, 3rd NG+ just beat the optional boss who's hard as fuck and isn't worth the fusion.

Gameplay's different obviously, but fun. Music fluctuates from FUCK YEAH to lolmute every few minutes. I keep it off unless Haru comes on, because Reset (Instrumental) is an awesome track.

Speaking of Haru, she's completely superior to Yuzu. DFC with a dress pretty much falling off all the time beats Yuzu's misshapen chest hams in every way.

My favorite Shin Megami Tensei is Shin Megami Tensei, I haven't played any other games, but maybe I'll play the previous games and the sequels some time.

I have no interest in the "Persona" series, just like I have no interest in the Metal Gear "Solid" series, because they are too popular.

Nocturne was a good game, sure the story and characters were a tad bland, however the gameplay was solid. (I am Unsure if Nocturne started the Press Turn System used in DDS/Persona Series)

Only problem is that you will be Kalpa Warp Divan for a while to get the sufficient amount of money for fusions/summoning.

Those who are bitching about too much griding in P2, it's because you don't know how to play it. The major scam of the game are the fusion spells, never use normal attacks or single spells, just fusions all the time. Your persona level grows faster, there's a high chance they'll mutate and the battle ends faster, and since you can turn off the battle animation things will get even faster. Also always boost the luck of your characters.

After playing it again after so many years I noticed how moe Katsuya is. My official husbando of the SMT series.

Being english, we didn;t really get any persona games until very late.

Personally though, whilst I liked the plot of the first SMT better, I feel the SMT3 was probably the better game overall simply due to presentation and the bredth of different things you could have in your party.
