Which Touhou would make the best American? She has to be freedom loving, possess a strong sense of justice, bares arms like the fist of the north star, ever vigilant in the face of tyranny, thinks communism is the very definition of failure and is a touhou of action.

I think Nanoha would be the perfect expy of America. She befriends her enemies like America does. Germany, UK, Japan etc. Superior firepower and not afraid to use it. America was a loli like weak little waif back during the 17th and 18th century and no one took us seriously. But then we onee-sama'd up and fucked over a couple countries. Then befriended them.

The clearest analogy for my fair Blighty is Yukari. Once she shaped the face of the world, and now she slumbers, occasionally aiding, abetting, and fucking around with other people as befit her whims.

America is far more dififcult. I would offer up the Tengu - the majority of them never see the outside of their lands, and those that do bring back a few scant facts that do not reveal anything about the nature of the outside world. They have the power to fuck around with things beyond their border, but they stick to a code of honour in their dealings and are uninterested in the outside world as a people - with a few exceptions. They expect things to come to them instead of seeking them out, though they do have significant trade with certain groups outside of their own. None the less, even with their trade partners they are snobbish - claiming their superioirity.

Strong drinking traditions and being treated as the inevitable stomping ground all throughout the Cold War. Much of European cultural development occured before clean drinking water was available, and alcohols were the only safe drinks - since then alcoholic drinks have increased in strength significantly (originally beer and ale were about 1% abv).

A lot of it is cultural inertia - most of our parents drink beer and wine. Times are, however, changing. No longer do entire companies go out for a drink friday lunchtime (which is a shame).

I wrote "the inevitable stomping ground", as in it was expected that should the two sides come into conflict directly a significant amount of the combat would be within Europe. Everyone in the area realised this when the US started deploying things like the Davey Crockett to Europe, even if they hadn't realised it prior to that.

That has a tendancy to make you all kinds of nihilistic, and drinking goes well with that kind of sentiment.
