The problem is you can 5aaaa *spellcard* for over 4k dmg. If every dial a's damage was significantly reduced, or not reduced at all but gave insane proration on the second to last hit, it'd be fine imo.

SWR has many problems, but most of them could be fixed with a simple patch, no need for a complete overhaul. Reduce bounce on airblock, make wrongblocking pushback same as regular block, increase recovery time on unpunishable graze attacks (Yukari/Tenshi/Sakuya 66C, Yukari 623C, etc) to make them riskier to use, take away/give density to some bullets to make them more on par with each other (one single reimu 5c or yukari 5c should not be able to clean out an entier spirit bar worth of bullets from half the rest of the cast and STILL go through and hit them)

It really wouldn't take much to make SWR an amazing fighting game on par with IaMP from the lulzy party game it is right now.

I personally don't even think that's necessary. For almost every character except Suika, there's a huge difference between a dial-A combo and a bread and butter combo. Patchy is 1500 dial-A and doesn't limit compared to 2700 B&B which reaches limit. Reimu is 1500 dial-A and doesn't limit compared to 2400 B&B which reaches limit. The only time a dial-A can deal decent damage is with a spellcard combo, like you illustrated, and even then the risk/cost versus reward is still intact. You just blew 3-5 cards to do that much damage, opened yourself up to the possibility of a bullet counterhit by trying, and you could have done an extra 1.5-2k damage if you hadn't have combod from a dial-A.

The PROBLEM is that we went from a game with 2 physical and 3 bullet buttons, to a game with respectively 1 and 2 buttons. You can't do shit in SWR, when compared to what you can do in IaMP. No, it really wouldn't. You don't need to slash and burn every option that's "broken" to fix the game. Airteching for example, is practicaly unpunishable in SWR. Why? no vulnerability period between the inv tech and when you can block, plus if you do get hit blocking it will bounce you up to safety for little cost.
What if right before you could block, there was a short period where you could get hit? What if airblocking didn't bounce you up so much? What if airblocking cost a lot more spirit?
Another broken mechanic is flight. It makes bullet coverage kind of weak because anyone can just fly over a ton of shit and avoid it. What if flight simply cost more spirit? Then you suddently have to learn to use airdashes and can't use flight as a crutch to avoid everything, as you risk getting aircrushed and hit.

You don't need a huge system overhaul, just fixing little things. Wrongblocking is a huge problem in SWR, yet all it'd take to fix it is to remove the increased pushback, that's it. Nothing more.

The problem with it isn't that the Dial A itself does a lot of damage for free, it's that you end up getting 2500+ dmg for a combo that starts with a simple quick poke, and which gives you plenty of time to hitconfirm since you use most of your dial to begin with. In IaMP, you can get 2.5k+ dmg combos with many chars, yes, but how many of those start with a 5a poke midscreen? highest I can think of is Remilia, which does a bit less than 2k, unless you chose to bomb.

Bullet differences aren't stupid. The player who throws entire screens of bullets in such a way that they can be cleared by a single linear non-homing bullet AND then get hit by it are stupid.
Dial A is a simple solution to the bigger problem that was IaMP loose pressure. Divergence is both easy and common, and is more rewarding, so you rarely will complete dial A unless by choice. If you could endlessly tap A then it would be possible to loose pressure and build up cards too easily. Not to mention that loose pressure is generally a waste of time at high level as it will just stall the game for extended periods of time until a clear fuckup is made. If you're going to sit and play rock paper scissors pressure you may as well play it quickly.
Wrongblock push is the only thing I agree with you on, it seems like it was also put in to deal with loose pressure but it instead created a defensive 'mechanic.' The push should go, but if the push goes then the additional frames of blockstun have to be reevaluated as well.

Debatable. 10 minute matches aren't common, at high levels, it's more like 6-8 mins. But that's up to personal preference, I actually like the long matches.

the chance to recover makes the pre/post declare games really interesting. IaMP's pressure system isn't simple RPS, the crush, stagger-> recoverable (pre declare) makes it great, along with the unique cancel tree iamp has.

And no, 10min matches are very rare. How many 10min matches have you had? Only a few japanese alice/meiling players get them. The average match length in the west is 2-4 minutes, 3-5 minutes in japan.

The main problem with the SWR pressure system is that it's almost inexistant. The defender has way too good options. Also there's no midrange pressure at all, if the opponent isn't in your face you're pretty much free to turn the pressure into neutral by flying away. Going into the air bears no risk either, as there aren't really any air crush strings - even if there are, you can simply BE out from them.

I, for one, hope this new patch (or expansion) will overhaul the pressure system along with a lot of other issues SWR has.

This is the worst of them all. It completely ruins the zoning games and makes melee hardly usable. Also kills most combos. There's absolutely nothing fine about this weather.

Taifuu (Typhoon):
Another horrible weather. Kills the pressure games and reduces the game level to "hey, lets spam shit at each other's face" If this weather comes and you're at much less health than the opponent, there's no way to recover.

Hanagumori (Spring Haze)
You have only one melee button in this game, where you should definitely have two of them. And now, even that one button you have gets removed. What the shit. Do I even need to go on?

2. Another button for melee, more melee attacks
This game has way too many melee attacks on the A button. There's no reason why there shouldn't be a 5-button system with two buttons for melee. Or 7 if you count the spellcard change+use buttons. Having two 5a attacks depending on the range is bad.

Also there's a huge lack of different melee moves in this game. Pressure is really weak in this game and grazing attacks are too strong. I'm not much of a fan of the idea of having guardcrushes moved from charged 3[a] and 6[a] to be moves that can be cancelled from command normals AND crush, but having a move that catches jumpout attemps after command normals would be a great cure against people trying to jump out or counterattack predictably.

3. Wrongblock
I can't understand this at all. Why, Tasofro, why? Why make blocking WRONG beneficial for the defender? WHY? this absolutely makes no sense. There's lots of strings that don't work because of this when the opponent blocks wrong. It also makes the already weak melee even less good, since projectiles dont cause this shit.

4. Stage size
The characters are the size of a fly, and the stage is the size of a huge hall. Especially with the tiny melee hitboxes, it's stupidly hard trying to cover different escapes even if you know the opponent will take them. Reducing the stage-size to one-third of what it's right now would make this game much better.

5. More active frames for moves, bigger hitboxes Related to the previous section, it's too hard to hit each other in this game. HJ8 and chickenblock are way too strong, escaping between two melee hits works way too often. You can't cover enough of escaping areas in this game.

6. Change in movesets
Grazing attacks are very stupid in this game. Like mentioned in section 2, there's just not enough choices to cancel into melee, and if your string isn't airtight it can be most likely beaten by some character's 66C, which on counterhit lands three times more damage than your choice of counter for this move would have landed. It's nice when a certain move has one of the following properties:
1. Grazes, beats projectiles
2. Beats most melee attacks
3. Very fast and *huge* reach
4. Leads into a lot of damage
Grazing attacks in this game have ALL of them. And that's not all, they're usually safe on block too! In fact, if the opponent happens to block them wrong, they can jump backwards and fly wherever they want to neutralize the pressure. They're punishable maybe one time out of ten, when they happen to hit you from a certain range.

7. Flying, highjump, chickenblock and cowblock
Flying and highjumping should have a larger window in which a counterhit is induced. There are so many options for escaping pressure, and even with the right it's sometimes hard to punish the opponent's movement. Flying also allows the player to spend too much time in the air. A possible fix for this would be removing the option to have two flights per jump, reducing it to one flight/one airdash or two airdashes. Although highjumping and chickenblocking are mainly good because of the huge stage size, lack of active frames on moves and small hitboxes, they're still not punishable enough even with the few moves with large hitboxes. Look at section9 for more info about why chickenblock is too good. So what's cowblock then? Yuyuko performing chickenblock. Ha ha.

8. Visual & Audio
Some stages have are *WAY* too bright, making bullets have very low visibility on them. The stage music gets very repetitive when you always listen to the same loop while hosting a game. An option for varying title music would make hosting a lot more pleasent.

9. Airblocking too beneficial
There's a huge lack of good airstrings in this game, making spending time in the air too beneficial. Blocking something high in the air doesn't give the opponent any kind of advantage. Possible fixes for this would be increasing the amount of spirit damage taken when airblocking, changing the moveset to allow better strings(although alone it would do hardly any difference) or making blocked moves in air cause lots of chipdamage. Let's compare what happens when you airblock a youmu j.a in Iamp and SWR: SWR: j.a j.6a, airtight string ends there, opponent can fly away. Iamp: j.a j.c rejump j.b j.c rejump j.b jc *crush* 2a loop for ~4,5k damage, followed by some seconds of guardcrushed mode (no autoguard, no specials, no projectiles)

10. Wakeup grazing
In IaMP wakeup grazing requires very strict timing so most players don't use it, or they fail it and get punished for it from time to time. I don't support this idea either, but at least it's better than having no midrange or long range okizeme at all. Whatever you throw when the opponent is knocked down has no meaning if you're not there to follow it with melee meaty.

Final comments:
Wow, 10 sections filled so quick. I didn't even have space to rant about the crouching character hitboxes, useless spellcards and special moves (alts or primary) and many other things that should be fixed, but I guess they're rather minor compared to the above mentioned 10 sections. I don't believe Tasofro would actually fix these problems, although most players agree that these should be fixed. So why not go play something better, like IaMP?
