My beloved Reisen is easy no matter in which difficult mode you're playing.

>>2786158
Well, by different scoring systems thats what I mean. The calculations are different, but remember that there is always a new element that involves hi scoring on each game. EoSD can be the average socring system, PCB: Cherry, IN: Time orbs, MoF: Faith, SA: Don't die. All work in different ways as you can see.

>>2786164
I really like the UFO system, no matter what most of /jp/ says. It is a lot of fun for me, it feels like you are playing some kind of weird arcade shmup.

PCB? bonkers at cherry border time.
IN? get all point during 100% human mode
PoFV? Bonus Round.

SA? Screw POC, GRAZE FUCKING EVERYTHING!

Gah, sometimes I feel like I'm not improving at general danmaku dodging.

Actually SA involves suiciding as much as possible for bombs for supergrazing, on lunatic at least, heh. But yeah, there's usually a few new mechanics for each game but the general playstyle doesn't really change much, about as much as you'd expect from sequels of the same series, I would say...

Similar scoring systems is not a bad thing though.Raizing will always be the king of scoring imo, and their best two games have nearly identical scoring systems.

It does not most of the time. But every once in a while when I try spell card I couldn't beat, they become really easy for some reason. Eg. Subterranean Rose, I tried for days to capture it. Batrider, of course!

Batrider is very similar to Garegga, except a few changes: The rank system is not so brutally extreme as it is in Garegga, and you can lower the rank (slightly) by dying or grazing bullets (as opposed to Garegga where dying is the only way to decrease rank) although you still need to suicide in Batrider too. More ships, too.

Oh also when you stop firing in batrider you get a charge shot, the aura on the front of your ship can be used to kill things. It usually yields points similar to killing with a bomb (in general, you get more points for killing things with bombs than with shot in raizings)

whoa sorry for the late reply i was playing dodonpachi.

there's a thread on shmups' strat forum on batrider: http://shmups.system11.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5349 Icarus' posts have some good info.

But if you don't want to wade through a bunch of shit I can give you a quick runthrough of the basics that you need to know to enjoy batrider (raizings suck until you figure out what the hell is going on):

First off, you probably want to turn on the extra dip switches in the mame menu, they might be called "unused" or "untitled" or something similar, depending on the mame version. These switches will enable a few things:
-Boss Rush mode
-Single Character Select
-Extra Characters

When selecting characters, the button you select with dictates the ship's strength...
-A: Powered up shot, weak options
-B: Powered up options, weak shot
-C: Powered up both, slower speed
-Start: Weak both, faster speed

During gameplay, HOLD START and PRESS B and you will enable a feature that shows you how many points you gain from each thing you destroy, very useful for seeing what yields the most points.

>> No.2786656
File: 76 KB, 640x401, strawberry.jpg [View same] [iqdb] [saucenao] [google]
2786656

Almost, those crosses are just too much for a useless maid like Kana.

>> No.2786657

>>2786653 continued

So anyway, as for the scoring system...

Everything gives you points when you destroy it, that much is obvious. However, HOW you destroy it dictates how many points you get. The general rule of thumb is that destroying things with bombs yields the most points, often 10x as much, or more. Some things can ONLY be destroyed with bombs. Some things will yield more points when destroyed by shot, some when destroyed by options. You can see how the start+B feature would be useful here. This also applies to bosses, you always want to destroy each part of the boss before killing the core. Also, sometimes when you destroy scenery with bomb, it will yield a medal.

Medal chaining: Every time you pick up a medal, the value of the medal increases: 100 200 300 400 500 600 700 800 900 1000 2000 3000 4000 5000 6000 7000 8000 9000 and a maximum of 10,000. When a medal falls to the bottom of the screen the chain is reset. So it's important that you don't miss a medal. If two medals are on the screen, and one falls but you pick up the other, you keep the chain IF the first one falls before you pick up the second.

Rank:

For those not familiar with rank, the higher the rank the harder the game gets. It's not as extreme as Garegga, but it still gets too hard to handle if you don't control it well. Basically, just don't pick up powerups if you're already at max power. They increase your rank too much to be worth the small point gain, so try to avoid powerups at max power. Dying reduces the rank by a good chunk, grazing reduces it very very slightly.

Err, there's more in-depth stuff but that's the basic stuff you need to know to get scoring. Also, this can almost all be applied to Garegga, except the ship button selection is different.

Oh. One last thing about Batrider. Default arcade settings are 1,500,000 per extend. When you hit 1.5 mil, the next air enemy you destroy will drop the extend. You cannot hold more than three lives, so if you haven't died, suicide then kill something for a "free" rank reduction.

I found this out the hard way the first time I broke 1.5m on a no-miss. lol.

>> No.2786760

>>2786753
With '3 extra lives' you mean 1 extra besides the three initial lives. Or the that the three starting lives are the limit.

>> No.2786774

>>2786760
When you have 1 ship displayed in your extra lives, it is your last life. You start with your ship + 2 extra ships, it shows as 3 ships. You start at max ships, so if you no-miss to the first extend you should suicide before killing anything.

For reference, a decent st 1 score is about 800k-1m. More is possible, but I usually aim for about 900k. Boss milking is pretty prevalent in all raizings but it's a lot more fun than most games' boss milking, in my opinion.

here's a vid of Icarus doing 1.25 mil on Advanced. The same exact strategy works on normal, though. He's using Strawman who is considered to be the best for this stage. The whole stage in one runon sentence: Start out with a bomb to destroy the cars right as you start, collect bomb fragments from the bikers, bomb the car lot, destroy the building behind the sign before you knock the sign down, bomb the glass part, bomb the police cars, collect the cash from the boss, destroy each part.

Basically just remember to kill everything you can, with bomb if possible. Raizing games give out tons of bomb fragments, and for good reason, you need to use them very liberally to score.

I already like Garegga a lot, these are actually pretty much the same game with different weapons and sprites.

I did better this time! Almost clear Stage 5. I died exactly in the moment I took my extend. Was kind of sad.

Nice. You'll get a Normal course clear pretty quick if you keep at it. Once you start Advanced though, you gotta start using those Garegga rank control techniques, cause of the higher initial rank and longer game. I can't do Advanced for shit, yet, but I'm workin on it. It'll be a while before I get that Advanced clear, I think...

Ibara is awesome. It's basically a Raizing game but with a few new features and mechanics, it was programmed by S. Yagawa who programmed Garegga. >C: Powered up both, slower speed

Survival or scoring, things dying faster is always a good thing. You'll also like the slower speed in some situations, about even with the situations you'll be fucked in due to slow.

>> No.2789904

>>2789853
I use Strawman C-type single-character. His speed is enough that he can still get around well enough for me with the lowered speed, and he's pretty powerful, not to mention the homing options also help make up for the speed. For survival runs and beginning scoring runs it's personal preference, really. I would generally say base it on the character's speed. If he's very fast, use C, if he's medium speed, use A or B, and if he's really slow, maybe use Start, although you might be too lacking in firepower with Start. Once you start doing Advanced Course for serious scores, you'll want to select your ships more carefully and use multi-character, as certain requirements (like using a different button for each of your 3 characters) unlock extra bosses (such as Black Heart and Glow Squid from Garegga). They talk about it somewhere in the thread linked earlier.

Points mean prizes.

Like Progear, it's good to learn to score because periodic extends and a slightly exponential component will result in lots of lives. But it's more important in Raizing games because dying or letting extends fall off the screen reduces rank.

>> No.2790462

>>2787609
I point out that autofire totally breaks this game. You do about 3 times as much damage as normal.

There's also fairly intense rank (based on main weapon powerup collection I think), so you might want to avoid powering up.

>> No.2790632

>>2790434
I know, the problem here is that since I haven't learn how most of the enemies (and bosses) attack, most of the time I need my bombs to survive. But you have a point indirectly, I shouldn't use my bombs just because I'm going to die, that will create a bad habit of bombing all the time. I'll try to do some runs without bombing at all.

Kinda sucked, but it's still my highest score, since it's the first score run I've attempted of the stage. I've survived with far more lives before, mostly because I made some really stupid mistakes (died twice on Phoenix's Tail, which is normally an easy capture, and used a normal bomb rather than a counterbomb with 1 bomb left, which made me die to the rapealicious noncard). Captured Hourai Doll, and basically captured Possessed by Phoenix, which I died on at the very beginning because I was using unfocused movement and ran straight into one of 8 bullets total on the screen. >> No.2791566

>>2791543
You can actually make up for a lot of the difference by using her focused and unfocused shots correctly. Her unfocused shots do way more damage when you're directly under her, and even more if you're closer, while her focused do more while you're not directly under. Reimu A can actually finish some of the cards quicker than the more powerful characters, especially if the enemy moves around a lot, like in Chen/Ran's extra midboss fight.

Honestly it's just that the bullets are much denser. It makes it hard to navigate with Marisa.

Also using master spark isn't just enough for this stage, you'll want to take out Daiyousei as fast as you can to increase the amount of bonus birds immediately after her.

I bombed right at the beginning and once after Daiyousei to collect power items and put me at max. For the stage before Daiyousei, you can sit at the collection line and move back and forth collecting the items. After Daiyousei, you can auto-collect if you got enough power in the first half of the stage. That plus memorizing certain enemies (most notably the ones that shoot puffs of red balls that make it hard to get into the top half of the screen) should let you collect most of the items without bomb spam. I DID just bomb spam in my hard and lunatic runs, though, since there are a lot more bullets on screen.

Fuuuuuuuuuck. I just died in Garegga with like 4,998,000 points (2,000 pts from an extend. Not as bad as when I watched KET die with x,999,500 though lol). Somewhat relevant to the thread, just thought I'd let you all laugh at my misfortune. Run was going so well and then those weird bus things in stage 4 just fucked my day up like it was their sole purpose in life.

Also you'll laugh when you realize what the picture is.
