That's just dumb. More than anything Project Sekai feels like a big love letter to Vocaloid and it's community. If you read the story, all the OC characters are inspired and guided by Miku and co. to create art and to come to understand themselves (the title art shoves the dynamic between the loids and the OCs in your face). It's an obvious parallel to Vocaloid creators and fans and what Vocaloid has done for us. Hell one of the OC groups is literally a doujin circle.
The Vocaloids are given disproportionately large amounts of attention considering the fact that there's only 6 of them and 20 of the others. By all means the Vocaloids and idols in this game get at the very least equal treatment, though I don't even think you should pit them against each other since they're so thematically interconnected, you couldn't have one without the other.
I think this impression that the game somehow isn't for Vocaloid fans just comes from people expecting every Miku game to be a Project Diva, which there is no reason for. Especially since there is far more passion for Vocaloid in PS than in any recent PD. The guys behind this obviously care about catering to Vocaloid fans way more than SEGA did when making the travesties that were X and 39s. This game is still made for Vocaloid fans even if it's not 100% Cryptonloid only content. It's just a game that managed to interconnect two audiences, which in the first place have a lot of crossover. No one's getting the shorter end of the stick.

Also, crypcon always milk MitchieM and Pinocchiop because they know very well they are popular. Why not do the same with orangestar or guiano? You could say that they tried this with Jin but it was more like a kagepro promo (hell they could at least put an sneaky IA inside kagepro videoclips). I would add remove 3dpd from concerts but I'm not sure if this annoys japs too, same with their last effort of westernize IA.

i agree, its pretty hard to not see that the whole game is indeed a love letter to vocaloid communities, and it does a good job at showing all its different aspects, from the hikkikomori song makers/artists doujin circles to the clubbing maniacs, Miku is obviously the most important and also the strongest character in the game gameplay wise and virtual singer mode makes it so that you barely have to listen to the 3DPD.

I still don't know what they were going for. I get that idol gacha are popular as fuck and make a shitton of money but I can't imagine the overlap between idolfags and vocaloid fans is very big, and the idolfags will either be turned off by the vocaloid content or completely ignore it

I tried the game for a week before stopping, personally I only found a couple of the idol characters appealing, and many of the idol covers sound like ass. Also the virtual live thing seems like a massive waste of time - a gimmick that people might get one or two times out of before getting bored

Yeah, I had few dreams about Miku.
On first these dreams usually weren't really pleasant. Usually we were trying to get to each other but we were separated by some invisible wall or she simply vanished when we touched. while yes, plenty of vocals are not only designed (kotonoha, renri) for soft songs but work very well with them (chiyu and saki come to mind)

Neutrino and Cevio AI will definitely sound different since they are different engines, but I wonder if all AI voicebanks in the same engine will sound samey. You probably need a lot more voice samples for the deep neural network than for traditional concatenative methods like Vocaloid (and that already requires tons of samples), so the companies will probably mix all voice samples they have in every voicebank (to create the most human voice possible in every situation) and only fine tune with each singers voice samples (but at that point the network already knows how to sing, and all voicebanks will have that same baseline).
