If you mean Keiichi, he doesn't know half the shit he did in Onikakushi. He didn't talk to Tomitake and Takano at the festival and Ooishi didn't show him the picture of his corpse (Tomitake is just missing), so Keiichi has no reason to fear for his life or draw connections between himself and Tomitake to suspect he might be killed next. Ooishi only told him the basics about the curse and a bit about Rena's antics. He wasn't told about the yakuza or Rika and Satoko's relation to the victims this time around. He brought all that up in Onikakushi because the police found all their names written on Tomitake's shirt.protagonists

It makes me wonder why exactly Ooishi is approaching him and telling him about Rena in particular. Keiichi barely interacted with Tomitake at the festival and he stopped himself from talking to him later when his gf showed up. So why is Ooishi interested? Simply to obtain info on Mion because he suspects the Sonozakis? Or is it because Rena was caught coming home late that night and Ooishi suspects her?

It's possible Ooishi thinks the Sonozakis convinced this mentally unstable girl to do it, like Satoshi the previous year. That's why he dragged up all that info on Rena.

I'm convinced that Sonozaki Shion does not physically exist as a separate person from Sonozaki Mion. Even though she's onscreen with Sonozaki Mion at the same time, that can't be proof enough that she's actually there. It's the same as when Hanyuu suddenly has physicality in episode 8 even though she was just an entity that only Rika could see. Sonozaki Shion, too, is just another "entity" or "personality" within Sonozaki Mion that is granted physicality in Watanagashi onward.

Second, earlier in the episode when Ooishi sneaks up on Satoshi and Shion pretending to be Mion, Shion declares to Ooishi that she is in fact Sonozaki Shion. It can't be that Oryou just kept Shion's existence hidden from the world when Ooishi has shown that he has a mole in the Sonozaki Clan.

It's basically a fucking book with music and visuals making up for description. Voices make it feel more like an anime and take you out of the immersion. An audiobook will never offer the same experience as a book you read with your own mind, at your own pace.

Higurashi in particular relies on carefully placed sound effects that startle you, which lose their purpose when there is sound sstimulating your auditory senses every few minutes. It really diminishes te atmosphere and the horror.

Higurashi was written with the idea that there wouldn't be voices and Ryuukishi made many decisions taking that into consideration. You can't just throw voices in and expect everything else to work as intended.

The 07 is a reference to Reina (known as Lenna in the fan translation), his waifu from FFV. If you observe the SPRITES of Lenna and Bartz (the main protagonist who is a hotheaded goof like K1), they are clearly the inspiration for Rena and Keiichi's designs. I said sprites because the official art for those characters in an incongruous emo mess that makes no fucking sense and doesn't fit the game sprites, their personalities or even the goofy tone of the game. There is a crappy GBA version that puts the ugly ass artwork in the game and it's a constant source of visual and tonal dissonance in every line of dialog.

So basically, Ryuukishi based Reina from Leaf Fight on his FF waifu, made Reina into a Higurashi character when he decided to turn Bus Stop into a full-fledged sound novel, and even made her part of his pen name. Never underestimate a waifufag. This is why Rena appears in the RGD results screen and the Ciconia title screen, she's his favorite OC based on his waifu.

I'm re-reading Higurashi after quite a few years and my opinions on Rena in particular are changing so much. She's such a self righteous brat. From best to worst in a flash. When she's not mantaining her cringe cute act (or even while mantaining it) she just talks shit about how bad Keiichi or Mion act (usually in a pasive agressive way because of course) even though SHE'S the one who's attitude makes everything go to shit, usually. character internal:

I'm reminded of the interview where R07 said that, in galge terms, Matsuribayashi is the Happy End, while Minagoroshi is actually more fitting of a True End.
For those unfamiliar with galge terms, the True End usually has emotional and thematic closure, while the Happy end is often just nonsensical fantasy.
For example, in the Fate/stay night VN, there's a Happy End where Shirou, Rin and Saber have lots of threesome sex ever after.

This explains why R07 decided to steal that happy future from Rika and throw her back into the loop in Gou: he was never satisfied with the closure it provided. Now we're moving towards the true True End.

Much of Onikakushi boils down to K1 buying the conspiracy narrative and spiralling into fear that he and his family will get killed for being newcomers. Without this narrative, Rena not talking about it, and the introduction of Satoshi, I think K1 is a lot less likely to go paranoid in this cycle.
Rena not being afraid of becoming the next victim also lends support to her being the reason behind the disappearance of Tomitake and Takano.
Episode 4 is going to absolutely blow us out of the water.

Matsuribayashi was never a happy ending. Takano is in deep shit. Teppei is still out there. Nomura gets away with everything. Rika has to live with the knowledge that parallel worlds are real and constantly pretend none of that horrible stuff happened so she can sleep at night, but she knows her friends are fucked in all the past worlds. Satoko's crime will come back to bite her in the ass and make her suicidal, you can't just live on having killed your own parents. But she fucked up and is now stuck in the fifth year without the memory of having died on purpose.
