FDS is largely wanking the evil spirit, but it's set up like a mystery manga first and foremost + the buildup is actually legit interesting (victims implied to be picked for a reason rather than at random, somehow outsmarting Yukari's shikigami, being touted as hell's jailbreaker, potential major threat to youkai as a whole, grudge against them and the Hakurei clan...). It'll probably end up as a nothingburger like Touhou manga usually do (unless ZUN really drops the Mima bombshell), but the setup has been actually building up to something for the past 8 chapters while LE has been completely aimless for 10.

If you're willing to entertain my shitty headcanon then it's probable that the entire reason she's drawn to the shrine and Reimu is because the grudge is still a subconscious thing and the basis of her existence as an evil spirit. Satori mistook this as actual foul will towards everyone involved rather than Mima just fucking around.

-Reimu beat her twice

ZUN isn't known for keeping his details straight, so if he were to include a character last seen 22 years ago I wouldn't expect some inconsistencies. Still, my Mima detector isn't going off right now. ZUN loves to unceremoniously kill off male characters, so if he called this spirit male then expect him to get the fortune teller special.

The 王 kanji in the spirit's title is definitely often used in the male context, but it can also carry a more neutral meaning of something like "monarch" or "ruler", so a female character isn't out of the running. On the flipside, would ZUN make a male character the pivotal point of a story when he outright decided against such before (Myouren getting switched out for Hijiri)?
I do firmly believe we're getting baited despite that though, it's too good to be true. This is Mima's biggest chance ever, but I just refuse to believe it as a defense mechanism.

I felt like an idiot for believing "Hidden Star in Four Seasons" would feature characters like Letty, Lily, the Akis, and Yuuka at least in some capacity. I thought for sure there was no way ZUN wouldn't at least include them as midbosses (like Lily ended up being). But HSiFS came and went, and though we got Reimu's Dog and the Keener, the seasonal Touhous didn't show up and I felt like a moron for ever thinking they'd be there in the first place.

I can't get hurt believing in a fairytale again, I don't want to believe he's actually bringing Mima back. All the coincidences with Marisa mean nothing, and they keep trying to link them to Chireiden and Satori instead. If he was going to bring Mima back, he would have done it a decade ago with Alice and Yuuka.
