I got a new lighter

To the anon that wanted to make a custom in the last thread I have something typed up just for this!
Follow this general process, think of the character you want. Then, think of what fumo has an expression that matches what you want in a fumo of that character. Buy them, as for other supplies, I use knitted fabrics for clothing due to its softer and stronger nature, alongside it oftentimes not fraying when cut. For hair, I have used minky, blizzard fleece, and anti-pill fleece, and all of them are rather good for fumo hair. Much like clothing fabric though, just go to a fabric store, find the colors you need, and then just start feeling different fabrics to see what feels good to you and looks good at the same time. For painting eyes, which is often necessary, its actually quite easy, just take it slow and remember youll probably need to apply multiple layers, use an acrylic paint, and youll be fine. Removing the clothing of the preexisting fumo is easy, there are 1-2 anchor stitches on the belly button and directly opposed from that on the back, snip those and you can either slide off or bisect the clothing. The hair its really just giving a fumo a haircut down to the scalp with a pair of fabric shears. Last thing, making a fumo is not the hardest thing in the world. Take your time, be patient, and itll turn out fine. There may be times throughout the whole process wherein you think its turning out terrible, it doesnt look good, etc, for my miyoi I thought that up until I was stitching on the last bits of the skirt. When incomplete, do not let its current look make you think it looks terrible. Lastly, dont be afraid to mess up, making clothes you can easily redo, same with hair patterns. Removing the hair is hard to truly mess up on. and as long as you take it slowly, eye painting should bring you no trouble.

Addendum to the Fumo Making Guide:
Before you start with a custom fumo, please keep in mind the majority of customs you see are made from a base of another existing fumo. Fumos made from scratch are not unheard of, but very rare as little information is found regarding making one from scratch. The few that do make from scratch, have either substantial experience (zerokonbu), its their job (annas handmade), have family who are skilled craftsmen (n0re) or are formally trained (albinokoi).
But there is no guide on how to put it together, so unless you can figure out this puzzle it is practically impossible to make a scratch fumo. Please realise that you NEED a sewing machine to make small and neat seams to connect the parts together, handsewing will leave big gaps and imperfections. You will also need an embroidery machine and an expensive software if you are planning to make a fumo face that 100% resembles an official fumo. Hand embroidery is an option, but keep in mind it will look DRASTICALLY different from what you see on official fumos. Embroidery machines go for $700+, so custom fumos from scratch is not recommended at all. If you have a base fumo in hand, you will already have a general idea on the clothes pattern and hair pattern, so that is much more recommended.
If you follow through on the fumo buying guide in the op, you can almost certainly find fumos to use as a base, or if all else fails, an astronomically cheaper gift plushie from im@s or the like can be used.

They're definitely picking up steam, even outside Japan. Just look at us for example.

However, I think the price and (artificial?) rarity are partially reasons they haven't exploded in popularity yet. Getting your hands on one of these is the Touhou equivalent of getting a Supreme drop.

To be fair, there are more outrageous game mods out there and it wouldn't surprise me if someone makes a fumo game mod one of these days, even if it's for a non-Touhou game.

If you use a forwarder you can pretty much guarantee placing an order since you can do it in 1 minute yourself, as long as you have a working credit card of course.
From what I saw last sale white rabbit express was successful for plenty of anons here, so there's a good chance they can order it. Keep in mind that they work on a first come first served basis, so if you're using them place your order and pay for it as soon as possible.

I'd want to focus on a variety of different proxies and forwarders, the difference between the two options and differences between companies. I want it to be exceptionally comprehensive, almost like something someone can watch as a Fumo buying walkthrough that takes you through the process of buying directly from Gift right up to the point where the soft arrives at your door. I've noticed many other videos don't go into as much detail as they could, or are outdated. One thing that's somewhat important that I've rarely seen mentioned is how easy it is to order on mobile, so you don't need to worry about being by your computer. Heck, I ordered my Tenshi while I was walking out to a swamp to take soil samples. The process of buying can be a bit stressful even with a guide, so I'd like to alleviate that for newcomers and experienced buyers alike. The benefit of using a forwarder is that the timing is in your control. You are not relying on a proxy buyer to be punctual and get your order in before they sell out. A forwarder on the other hand doesn't need to do anything involving precise timing. They wait for your package to arrive and then ship it to you.

I used Big in Japan's forwarding service and it went smoothly. They have good instructions on their site and a status page to tell you if they have received your package and sent it to you yet. The only hard part was filling out the order form on Gift's page because it's in all Japanese and you need to fill it in in Japanese. I got through it with Google Translate. That's the one part it would be nice to have a proxy buyer do for you.

See pic related, this is me reading between the lines but it seems like the stock goes down when you add an item to your cart rather than finishing an order. So as long as you finish your order within 30 minutes then you are guaranteed to have that item. This would also explain why sometimes items come back in stock after a bit because they would be removed from people's carts.
