Memorable designs, great dynamics between members, and there's also something to be said about the powerhouse that is Coco.

Hololive has been around for more than a year actually. It's Generation 3 that debuted one year ago, which has the most popular members, pekora, marine, rushia, noel and...... flare.
If you look at the list of most superchatted Youtubers in Japan, 4 out of the top 10 are generation 3 members.

So I think it's safe to say that the entire success of hololive comes from generation 3, most notably pekora and rushia. That's it really.

EOPs

Niji had it's chance with concrete roads, but never capitalized on it. Fubuki scatted all over the place and when the EOPs came to eat it cover put up a giant "EOPS WELCOME" sign and had their managers tell the girls to engage them if possible

More EOPs means more viewers means the youtube algorithm recommends them to more people means actual japanese paypigs end up running into them
