Why are there still American and European automobile makers? The Japanese blow them out of the water with performance and price.

If they still exist, it's because there's still a market for them.
Of course there was a marked decrease on sales, which can be seen obviously with the decay of american cities and towns focused on automobile production. But there's enough demand to keep it alive, as some sort of undead industrial complex.

Market is not rational, and can be easily manipulated. Bloody humans, won't look beyond their noses...
