I was devastated to see that there's no way that I can take Japanese next semester, because it interferes with at least 2 of my required classes no matter how I build the schedule. I know that if I miss next year there's basically no way I can recover and jump back into classes later on. It's just really heart breaking to me to realize that I have to give up something that I care about so much. Dropping out of the class now means I won't have the opportunity to minor in Japanese, and I'll never be able to study abroad with the language program. I've spent hours crying today over it.

Has anyone else ever been in a similar situation? I have a really huge fear that I'll be so busy with my actual classes next year that I'll let go of Japanese completely, and I really don't want that. What can I do to transition to self study? I've never worked on a language without class structure and help from a teacher. What resources should I look to? Right now I own Nakama 1 and 2, but I'm not sure how useful they are for self study. Should I look toward hiring a tutor or something like that? I'm just really lost right now and any tips, opinions, or guidance would be appreciated. Thank you so much.

This is more or less what I do. I watch a fuck load of anime/dramas/live events/concerts and I'll always get distracted by something I see or hear in it that causes me to break out my dictionary or texts to look something up. Whether it's kanji, a verb, or something.

Class is good IMO for reinforcing sentence structures and practicing with a partner.
