I've used both genki books and to be honest dude you're better off using tae kims grammar guide. I've got the phone app, its excellent. What TK does that genki doesn't is he isn't scared to use grammar and kanji he's already introduced you to in new examples. Genki keeps all of that stuff basic as fuck and you feel like you can't read anything even after finishing both books.

Whereas after two-three weeks TK has you reading this shit:

It only seems hard because just learning another language is hard in general. But learning English grammar is way harder, especially for Japanese people coming from a more simple grammar since they have less reference for things.

People who don't learn the writing system at all, just speaking/listening have no more difficulty learning Japanese than any other language.
The only reason Japanese is considered notoriously difficult is because of the kanji.
If you honestly think it takes you longer to learn grammar than Kanji then that raises some red flags to me. I think you must have some warped understanding of something.
