2296647 No.2296647 [Reply] [Original]

I love the Aki sisters. I was very happy that there was a chance for me to express my love of them by participating in the doujinshi, but then I realized that I can't draw worth shit.

I am quite upset now.

>> No.2296658

- Learn to draw
- Make your own doujinshi, free of the limitations of a collaborative doujinshi
- Go to Comiket
- ???
- No profit, because you're a disgusting gaijin.

>> No.2296667

I wish you could draw, because the sad part about this whole mess is that every western artist is trying to get in on this thing regardless of whether they actually like the Aki sisters or not, just because they're so excited by the notion of something of theirs showing up in GLORIOUS NIPPON.

But I can write and can't draw worth shit.

>> No.2296725

Maybe my expectations for myself are too high. I don't want to try making a doujinshi with them until I'm absolutely sure that I can properly portray every single aspect of them exactly how I envision it in my mind. It would be very upsetting to myself if I shamed the sisters' name with my shitty drawing and writing.

>> No.2296727

>>2296713
Can you write good? I don't mean any shit, I mean something GOOD.
Think about this, you can draw right? everyone can, what changes is the quality of it. Now, drawings are easier to judge, they don't require time to do so. But writing is a whole different thing, you can write shit that looks good because everyone is actually more forgiving with it, since you can just hide your crap with good rhetoric and shit.

I dunno, define "good". I've gotten praise for my writing before from teachers and professors and I've won awards before, but I have no plans of writing a book or being a professional author or anything. I wrote the Alice miscarriage story and that was an off the cuff thing, I think my writing comes out much better with even a little more preparation.

Well either way, I think that just good.
The problem with western fanbase is the fact that too many untalented people want to do something, unlike Japan and such.
Gathering talented people is important if we want to break the gaijin barrier, the art shown by /jp/'s anons has been quite good, add good writers, effort and guts, and we get a good doujin that won't stink to gaijin fanfiction or fanart.

>> No.2296783

You need to let your love for the sisters drive you to artistic excellence. Make a promise in your heart to them, and keep studying the art of doujinshi-ing and drawing until you can finally fulfill your dream.

Depending on where you're at right now and how much motivation you have, you might be able to make your doujinshi in a couple years...

At the very least, you can be very certain that you'll be the only one that cares about the Aki sisters then, instead of the half-assed love that will be spawned by the current doujinshi collaboration.

>> No.2296801

I want to be able to write and draw well. I want the whole doujinshi to be driven by my love only.

>> No.2296831

Write out an idea.
Get someone else to draw it.

I feel bad for this, most of the hard work is on the artist after all. But seriously, if you have decent writing skills and a good idea I think it would be best to take one of the spots writing the "novel" they're asking for.

>>2296783
At least most of the halfhearted attempts are staying out of applying for now. How I shudder to see comments like "I'll see what I can do" linked to a 14-year-old's dA with godawful mspaint images.

Not that I can say anything, I can't even do a decent stick figure...

Personally, it's that I was disheartened at losing time and time again in IN a few years back.
It's hard to learn every detail of such a huge cast of characters anyway, specially when fanon and canon collide. It's taken me a while, but I now know at the very least the story in the games and the personality of most of the girls. Still get confused at times recognizing the ignored ones, but I try.

>That's the thing, I'm not completely confident of my idea.
>Here's what I wrote him:

>>For now, the idea circling my mind is fairly slice of life, to illustrate snippets of the sisters' daily life trying to enjoy themselves as much as they can during the Autumn months before Letty arrives. They don't resent it, just accept it as part of life. Every day they rip a page of a calendar and see it slowly grow thin.
>>Melancholy fills them as they realize that their fun will be over soon, so they held a big cookout, baking potatoes for everyone in Gensokyo. In the end, Letty, looking as if she just woke up, comes near to have some baked potato too. The sisters give him one, grinning happily, and rejoin the party. Maybe the last frame can be the last hanging dark leave from an almost nude tree, standing in contrast with the moon, and the smoke of the cooking.

>Had to go to shrinemaiden to get more details, and I hate that. Anyway, seems I have 6 manga pages to work with. I'm thinking big setting page, 3 following pages with ongoing adventures, each one focusing on a friend, mostly Stage 1-2 bosses. Each page ends with a panel of the thinning calendar.
>Last two pages would be the cooking scene. High contrast, lots of shadows. Maybe make it a double page spread to fit most of the cast around a big darkened pot.

With an o, spell the name with an o for crying out loud...
And I'm doing what you've been seeing. Got an outline, got a decent artist, having trouble doing that storyboard thing he asked me.
I think its good as a mood piece, not much of an actual story or conflict, but if pulled off right, it can be something one can be proud of.

Thinking about what international collaboration could bring to a project about the Aki sisters has led me to mull over what represents autumn to me personally, and about differences in what is quintessentially 'autumn'. As an inhabitant of the Western end of the 49th parallel of North America, 'autumn' makes me think of raking leaves and jumping in the piles. Of Jack-o-Lanterns, firecrackers and sunny days where the dew makes my bare feet numb and the air nips at my lungs. Never having lived anywhere but here and Japan, I don't know what 'autumn' looks like to other people.

I don't think it would make a very good doujinshi (barring very specific execution, which I am not capable of), so I'm not suggesting this as an idea for one... but I can't stop wondering. I know it's a bit kindergarten, but I want to hear about autumn in other places. If I pretended this was a doujinshi idea, would people tell me about what autumn is to them?

tl;dr: What does autumn look like where you live?
