I hope the server returns, it's been awhile.

I'm burnt out on MTA, so I don't really care about it.

The host is taking some time off.
I'm fine as long as he gets to rest and comes back eventually.
A break comes nicely too, as I'm guessing at least some of uss were feeling a bit burnt out.

I'm not going to make any promises but I'll try to kick things back in gear again. I mentioned a while back there would be a point where once the simple stuff was mostly finished, the only thing left to do would be more time-consuming and complex projects which is more less where we sit now.

Something I do want to mention is that new content can only come as quickly as I can throw it together and what anons contribute. While we've come a long way since the start I think with what we have now it's still easy to burn out if this is something that were up all the time without anything new. Don't tell anyone, but that's also the reason why the server has these downtimes as well, to keep interest fresh.

I don't know if I'll be able to host tomorrow since there's still a couple of things that need to be tidied up and fixed, but you can expect it to be up for sure this coming weekend.

On that note, I did discover that the source of the bug in Shrine Maiden, where if you tried to join the server when the game was in progress and got a black screen, seems to have been caused by adding unique icons to the maps such as the Makai vs Hakurei LS map. I'll see if I can't find out what exactly is breaking it, but we may need to rollback to the fairies version of Shrine Maiden for the time being.

If you want to use it you can install it in the same way as the pre-installs for the server. Just drag and drop the "MTA" folder into MTA's root folder, merge and override. For good measure you should back up the MTA/cgui/images folder as well in case you want to switch back to the old menu.

Nice work translating it anon. A quick google search says for community-subtitled videos to actually appear on the video, it would need to be approved by the uploader of the video first. I've never used YouTube for uploading but I imagine in the worst case scenario you could download the video, make it a private upload and simply subtitle it yourself if it's still not approved by then.

On a side note, I've been investigating the bug where you sometimes spawn in the middle of nowhere upon first connection. I'm glad to say with complete confidence that it is an absolute mystery and nothing else I've worked on has stumped me this much. Even with all the server resources stopped, spawnpoints changed, and checking DB files for anything that could modify it, there's a constant roughly 1 in 3 chance of it happening.

We just don't know.

I enjoy GTA Touhou servers and I'll join tomorrow but what happened to Doom Touhou servers? Are those still a thing?

Additionally Shrine Maiden has been brought up-to-date again, so water damage, etc is all back with the exception of the old skins and icons. Also I think the cause of certain IFP's not working is because they were the animations only - the ones that do work came in the form of ped.ifp's which have all the base animations from the game with the new animations appended in.

Well I'm unsure of why that one single animation gave me trouble, but I found another one that's pretty similar with a few more special animations. I have to say custom server-side animations are probably one of my favorite things so far, there's a lot of potential in being able to use animations outside SA aside from just replacing player animations, so it's pretty exciting even if we can't make full use of it quite yet.

Yes, that's it. There were also some pose animations on that pack that were never implemented, they did come with their own script (like the sitting anims) but you can add them to the new resource too.

Well, it's quite literally all in Russian. There's not a lick of English in it! It's somewhat simple to understand from what little I've played though, the only thing I'm unsure of is earning money to buy stuff.

It'd just be a one time thing to mess around in though, same as Vice City was. It does kind of show what kind of stuff you can do in MTA though.

It's just SA modded to look and (sort of play) like STALKER through the use of scripts, so you'd only need to connect to the server as usual. While it's not exactly a 1:1 representation and still being worked on (only Cordon is finished), the dev seems to have put quite a bit of work into it so far, some of it is very creative.

STALKER probably won't be this week I'm afraid. Because nothing can work out of the box, there's some SQL screwery that I need to figure out and a few other adjustments to the script itself.

If you miss a run, you need only download the most recent pre-install as it contains everything. This might change in the future due to the increasingly large filesizes, but for now all you need is whatever's the most recent.

On that subject I've been checking out the external web server functionality, something like that might help substantially in solving that problem later on as it's supposed to be much faster than the built-in one we're currently using. Just an idea I've been tossing around, it would save the trouble of having to get a new pre-download every week (save for maybe the maps as they have rather sizeable filesizes and would still need a seperate download for anons on slower internet).

Some other good news, I've been messing around with mySQL and got STALKER working as well! So we'll be able to play it today. I'll post some basic instructions about it closer to the server going up.

No, and I think I *might* have finally cracked it. Turned off all firewalls, antiviruses, installed MTA without opening yet and immediately installing the nightly fix, and ticking the "I'm desperate" box.

Now all that's left is to test if I can actually play later!

Honestly, that should have fixed the issue. There's even a video about installing GTA SA with MTA on youtube, but it's on Ubuntu, so I don't know if that's your distribution.

If you're using the MEGA link, can you check the folder? Make sure there are two exe's there - gta_sa and gta_orig. The one you want to use is gta_sa. And reinstall MTA so you point to that folder.

A couple of things to note which I highly recommend reading, because we'll be starting out with STALKER today which is it's own little thing:
- It uses it's own account system so you'll need to redo the process like you would on the server. Fill out a username and password then click the bottom right button to register the account. The bottom left button will log you in.
- Your character name (not your account name) needs to be at least 5 characters long and is what you will display as to everyone else
- You can choose between Loners (spawn as Okuu) and Bandits (spawn as Orin). There is no difference between these groups except spawn location, although Loners get a free 1000 rubles and gun by talking to Okuu.
- Tab brings up inventory
- I brings up the PDA, can drag and move across the map, and some other stuff I couldn't figure out, possibly some sort of reward system tied to turfs
- You can use STALKER voice commands by holding down Q and selecting the different options. If you're sitting at a campfire you can play guitar songs through this menu.
- You can buy stuff from the characters where you spawned by clicking the bottom middle button
-You can capture turfs which are the little circles on the map if you stand in them long enough (no idea what this does)
-You can drop items to give them to other players from the inventory screen. You also drop your items on death, if you want them back you'll need to loot your body assuming no one beat you to it.
- There's probably a bunch of other stuff I missed because this is all in Russian so feel free to explore and get eaten by psydogs


Finally as it'd be way too much effort to import the character skins here for a possibly one-time thing, you'll need to mention in chat which character you want so I can manually assign it. I'll also give you all a few thousand rubles to start with. This will probably be a lot more jank than usual so consider yourself warned!
