For your inferiority comment, a lot of H-movies are just horrible (extremely awkward and low quality animation). H-manga are usually better, but lack sound.

For story/character-driven eroge, the porn functions as an intermission. If you don't like the sex scene (doesn't appeal to your taste), then you can easily skip it (good option to have) and continue on with the rest of the game. Also, context helps.

I've gotten so used to reading a story in a manga/anime that I feel real porn as in 3d feels so empty, the only story most have is "Hey nurse fix me up, and the suddenly BLOWJOB...", while i do prefer having a story buildup to the sex scene most Eroges take you thought a crap load of text to get to it, it takes so long that i forget i wanted to fap and get immersed in the story.

If you really want to know what the appeal of them is, try playing one. Saya no Uta is a pretty good beginner VN since it's so short

Alot of eroge are really VNs that have plot with a little porn thrown in. Some do it better then others. Some focus soley on the sex themes, like Bible Black, and some focus more on the characters to try and generate an emotional attachment.

I generally find the ones like Bible Black arousing and fappable, if I become attached to the characters I start to find them less fappable for whatever reason.

Let me explain to you the long path of porn that I have taken.

It started simple. The internet was fresh and hopping when I was 13. There was porn aplenty.

Let me tell you something about sex. When you cut it down to the brass and tacks, it is basically a thrusting motion. I don't know about you, but watching a guy fuck a girl gets old after a while, and, much like an alcoholic who must increase his intake in order to intoxicate himself, I needed a little more variety.

So I moved on to fapping to FFM and gangbangs. And lesbians. The more porn I got a hold of, the more I got tired of the same old.

I have to call an intermission to explain a little something about myself. I am, at heart, a romantic. I like love. I like long relationships. I like the early parts of relationships when people ask you if you're going out with so-and-so and you don't know what to tell them. I'm a sappy bitch. Romance is the foreplay of making love, as far as I'm concerned, so this may be a root cause of my inherent boredom with vanilla sex.

Now, I'm no stranger to video games and cartoons. Growing up on them makes it much easier to dive right in to hentai. Normalfags don't get it, but then again, I don't get moralfags. I hold that nurture has a greater influence over a person than nature, and as such reason that exposure, particularly in the early years of development, has a huge impact on, among other things, what you can more easily beat off to.

Now, hentai often provides an outlet for me to fap to all the waifus I've ever had. Remember Xenogears? Remember Elly? Fuck, I was ten years old. I wanted to fuck the shit out of Elly. After, of course, a long romantic relationship in which strong emotional bonds of trust were formed. I'm still a sap.

But, you know. It's a fucking video game. It was jaw-dropping that they even IMPLIED Fei/Elly sexing. Most of the time, you don't even get that much satisfaction.

Until you hop on the internet, of course. Now, instead of porn actresses and random amateurs, you can finally beat off to your waifu. Magnificent.

Then, the next logical progression is in doujins. Hentai with its own built-in story and buildup, most of the time. The development of characters and their relationships serves as the foreplay that gets my motor going, and increasingly, the going is good.

But I still prefer my protagonists to have a personality. In Tsukihime, for example, where the protagonist actually has a pretty nice personality, I still found it easy to feel like a part of the story.

Now, porn isn't my entire life. Granted, it's most of it, but I do still play video games and watch cartoons like I always have.

So naturally, it was only a matter of time before I stumbled upon Saber and the Fate/Stay Night anime. I found it to be a satisfying watch. Of course, 4chan was what helped me find it in the first place, so 4chan was where I was going to go to discuss it.

This just happened to be JUST before Mirrormoon finally released the Heaven's Feel patch. Fucking coincidence, eh? It was an inevitability that any discussion involving F/SN was going to include the Visual Novel, a phrase I quite frankly had never fucking heard of before.

Now, by this time, I had already, with much help from 4chan, played Gadget Trial, so by comparison, getting F/SN and the Mirror Moon patch was a trivial task.

In Fate/Stay Night I found the embodiment of what I always wanted in fiction. Not that I sit around thinking "gee it sure would be great if I could just fap in the middle of my favorite show" but sex is after all a very natural part of relationships, so I felt it could only add to a reading or viewing experience.

I like fiction, I like romance, I like long stories, and of course I am a guy so I rather like beating off.

So, at the end of this path, I find myself quite at home with the eroge. The more erotic parts of a story don't have to define it, but they don't have to be omitted either, and having a story to build characters and relationships, if fictional, for me to grow attached to makes the ensuing fap much more satisfying than it ever would have been just looking at a typical porno snippet.

Well, these are sex scenes in stories that are largely romantic. And, of course, I do not spend all of my time indulging in these. I also play a lot of action games and during the summer I get out and play paintball at local fields.

It would certainly be awkward for there to be a fap scene in the middle of, I dunno, Mega Man X4, Sky Gunner, Team Fortress 2, or Star Wars Battlefront. Or in the middle of an outdoor sport.

But during a story about a guy who falls in love with his magical girlfriend, or his tsundere classmate, or his yandere junior, sex is just a natural part of the flow. In a good eroge, you're ready for it when it comes, rather than it being an awkward intermission or interruption of the rest of the story. Intimacy is part of the story.

Well, I personally would agree that in some of them, the sex just is an annoying sidetrack that detracts from the story, only added to add sales. Many VNs I've read would have been better without the ero scenes.

That said, sometimes they do fit, and when they do, they're touching and nice, and extremely arousing (if rarely fappable) - because I dunno about you, but two people that really love each other having sex is much nicer to watch than random porn.
