10k hours of eng.subbed anme is fine to do if you've got no objective in mind of learning japanese in the near future. doing rtk can be kind of useful if only for the sake of training yourself to tell characters apart by their radicals, so as to not confuse them, but then again, looking kanji up through the jisho app or even a physical dictionary can be just as good of a radical recognition training exercise. the only problem would be to do rtk all on its own without touching absolutely any japanese media, and believing that heisig's book is a masterpiece of kanji education, just because matt tried to convince people so in that 40 min long video he made about it.
the only advantage english subbed anime has over listening to unintelligible stuff in japanese as proposed by ajatt/mia is that
1) if you watch subbed stuff, you don't need to concentrate on picking words apart or recognizing sounds, and can instead focus on the plot/characters/visuals.
2) by seeing english translations for japanese sentences you're hearing, you're associating stuff you already know with stuff you're slowly acquiring an ability to understand. translations might not be anywhere near 1-to-1 equivalents, but they still provide something which to give you an idea of what you're listening to.
