Never implied that. The anon asked for GOAT recommendations. I assume GOAT means the best dramas in the story/script writing category and the best dramas in the acting category. But most of what he got are dramas, while popular, lacking in both of these said categories (besides dramas like Hanzawa Naoki and Kaseifu no Mita).
Honestly most of the time the best dramas in terms of stories and acting are the ones that don’t get high ratings, for example, from what that anon recommended, Quartet and The Supporting Actors.

I know where you're coming from, I just finished the third episode. The characters are just so animesque. Their movements, their poses, their speeches, all look like something out of an anime. The drama is clearly targeting a certain demographic in teens and women. I should have known it would be like that the moment I saw that this cringelord is the lead actor.
The mystery isn't impressive or exceptional but it's good. However it's ruined by the anime-like acting and scenes. I can't help but cringe at it sometimes.

There is always at least one good drama per season every year. By good dramas I mean dramas that are actually watchable. Masterpiece kinos are basically nonexistent on this day and age and if you’re like me and only watch 4 dramas max per year then the lack of “truly good” dramas won’t bother you at all.
Variety shows are more tedious to sub because they are long-running and I reckon even janiizu wotas don’t sub their idols’ shows regularly.

The gaki-no-tsukai forums are pretty good. You have to sign up, and everything's on fucking Mega so you need something like megabasterd if you want to download more than 4gb or so, but the quality is great and they're pretty fast.

You'll still have trouble finding one-off shows and the like, but most of the major series are covered.

Also as a bonus check out マヂカルラブリー for something less traditional and a bit more retarded that really makes me laugh.

I haven't read the manga, but the series was good. It takes a few episodes to get going though so you do need to be a bit patient with it. And the second season is definitely a big improvement with better thought out games for the characters to play and more interesting schemes to win. But it's a fun ride regardless. Mother never really looked "housewifey" to me. It just looked very serious and I guess that kind of put me off. But i will give it a shot.
