Hey guys, i've been studying japanese for about 4 years. This december i am planning on doing the JLPT N4 and i am very exited for that but the problem is that sometimes i feel that i am not learning what i should be learning when i try to understand the japanese from the tv, music or manga. I'd love to hear if any of you guys have felt like this before and what have you done to improve your japanese? Like to understand real japanese not the one from a book but for the japanese spoken on the streets on tv etc. If you know any resource, website, pages, etc; i will thank you a lot. :)

"ideal" with respect to what goal? maximizing the chance of recognizing words in context? smallest anki time/immersion time ratio? least time with anki per day? least time with anki over two years? note that some of these will also depend on rate of adding new cards, how leeches are dealt with, and so on.

this is my issue with matt's whole approach. everything he does is such a simplified model under such idealized conditions that it's worthless. every time he talks about a numeric value it should really be a distribution and I very much doubt that any of his recommendations actually offer any statistically meaningful befits.
