Has anyone here figured out how to fix Calibre from showing only the first page of vertical Japanese epubs, with the rest of the text overflowing to the left? And advancing the page just skips to the next chapter? It seems like such a basic problem to fix and surely countless more people than me have had this issue but I can't find anything that works.

what I am not good at with Russian is writing and reading because I never really learned it but I can catch up with that anytime and will after getting a bit farther with Japanese

the problem with speaking English is simply my lack of practicing speaking it so my mouth is simply not used to making the right sounds, so I end up speaking with an accent occasionally just tripping over what I am saying
however I realize very much what it means to learn to speak and tell you what taking three times longer to do flashcards reading the same sentences over and over again isn’t the magic recipe for learning to speak, it’s consuming a lot and also actually doing it

There's a really neat work-around for subs with fucked up timings in mpv.

Assuming the problem with the subs is that the lines come in too late, when you hear the very first line of dialogue in an episode press this:
>CTRL+SHIFT+RIGHT
This will make mpv display the next line (i.e. the first line, in this case) of the subs at the present time in the file.

You can then adjust the timing more precisely in units of 100ms with Z or X if they're still slightly off.

If you have subs with severely fucked up timings where they start like an entire minute too late or something, this is super useful.

I wish the alass dev would include some feature that made it easier to batch convert subs. For example it could request "original subs" and you could direct it to a folder or select files, then it could request "reference subs" and again you could direct it to a folder or select a group of files, and then if you want you could give a naming pattern for the outputted files, else it names automatically. And it would determine which sub goes with which based off of initial alphabetical sorting or something. As it stands I think you have to mass rename files with a program like Renamer and you have to merge lists. Unless he changed this behavior and I'm low IQ.
