3 blues give you the most score if it absorbs a lot of point items.
And a multicolor UFO is best for score if it absorbs a lot of power items when you're at full power.

For extra lives, get 3 red UFO's. Feed the UFO with point and power items until you get a star, kill the UFO to get another star. 3 Stars are 1 live.

I dunno about greens. For what I have seen, it gives you more points.

Missed getting a blue ship at the end, which meant missing a couple million points.

Going back to normal after doing lunatic sure feels easy mode.

It comes down to kill bosses' spellcards as fast as possible, because they give a lot more than in previous games, and get all blue UFOs except in certain spots like the one spot in stage 2 (IIRC) that drops a TON of red items, where you can get 30 million on a single flashing UFO, and probably some spots where you're better off getting a flasher than waiting for blue UFOs because of UFOs that don't change. Other things are: each graze makes every point item worth one more point, which can then be multiplied by the UFOs; and each small UFO adds 250 to each point item, again multiplicable by the UFOs. The reason blue UFOs are the best is they have the highest multiplier, 8 when full. Flashing UFOs get 4, and red and green are basically worthless for scoring because they're one and two, respectively. Green MIGHT be useful in cases where the bomb can give you more score than you lose in opportunity cost.
